Obviousphysicaltraumaaside,itisn’talwayseasytotell,solet’sstartwithwhat thesefacilitiescan(andcan’t)doforyou.
Bothfacilitiesmightbeopenlate,buttheailmentstheyaredesignedtohandle areverydifferent.Urgentcareclinicsaretheretofillinthegapswhenyouhavean injuryornon-life-threateningsicknessafterhours.Thesearethingsthatyoumight seeyourprimarycareproviderforduringthedaytime,suchasminorachesand pains,flusymptomsorasuddenfever.Theycanevenhandlesprainedlimbsor stitchupsmallcuts.

Thesewarningsignscanbeevenlessobviousforsmallchildren.Theyoungeryour kidsare,thelessthey’reabletotellyouwhat’swrong.Prolongedfeversareeven moreofaworryforkidsthantheyarewithadults,sodon’thesitatetocallyour primarycareproviderafteracoupledays—andconsidertakingkidstotheERafter fourorfivedays.
