Titans wrestling loaded with experience at heavier weights By ALEX KERKMAN

TCU High School wrestling COACHES Head coach: Brian Mikel, fifth year as head coach, 17 years as an assistant, 22 total Assistant coaches: Corey Block (sixth year), Bryan Balma (second year), Corey Immerman (second Year), Jay Frederickson (first year) KEY PLAYERS Senior Alex Burns: 285 pounds, third place at state last year, five-year letter winner. All conference last year. Will provide much needed leadership. Senior Jacob Nading: 220 pounds, two-year letter winner. Can step up this year and finish high in the section. Senior Thomas Franek: 126 pounds, one-year letter winner. Will provide valuable senior leadership. Senior Sonny Weitzki: 152 pounds, two-year letter winner. Will need to step up this year and fill in the spot vacated by Max Arroyo. Was named most improved last season. Junior Jordan Simonette: 195/220 pounds, one-year letter winner, state qualifier last year. Very athletic. Good on his feet. Junior Jonah Johnson: 170/182 pounds, four-year letter winner. Very experienced. Should have a good shot at state this season. Junior Mason Rutt: 170/182

The Titans were defeated by Scott West in the section quarterfinals. Mikel said this year’s favorites are Scott West, Waconia, and New Prague. COMMENTS FROM THE COACH “Overall I am excited to get the season rolling. My biggest concerns are the middle weights. We are pretty thin and young in this part of our lineup. Our strength should be in our upper weights. Hopefully our ninth-and 10thgraders can step to the next level this year and solidify those first six weights. Like all other teams, we need to stay healthy.
