How long have you been playing golf, and what is your hcp?

I have been playing golf for 8 years now, and my hcp is 9.5 Which is your home course?

Golfclub Beuerberg, Bavaria - Germany.

How many times have you participated in the World Amateur Match Race?

This is the second year. So we are participants from the first day. Due to our second place from last year and the amazing experience in Dubai, our motivation is high to bring the Cup to Germany this year. Also, we met great people with whom we can say we really made friends.

What is your and your team partner's strength in Match Play?

My teammate David is hcp 10.5 already after only 3 years since he first tried golf. We usually battle each other on the golf course anytime we have the chance, and the loser has to pay for the drinks and take an “I am the loser photo” for our Golf WA Group. My golf game is kind of “unspectacular” and stable. This is why David is the perfect partner for me in the Matchplay mode. He hits 300-yards with his driver and the 100m Wedge shots with backspin into the green, which is fascinating me every time again, as I am still not able to do this with many more years of experience.

What is the best thing about the game form Match Play, Best Ball?

Golf is such a fascinating sport in many ways, so it's great fun to have the opportunity to play with your best friends! The format of Match Play is a winning concept. There are few forms of competition as fun as the best ball match, where you get to play with a friend, have emotional ups & downs, and meet friendly opponents. Also, it is always enjoyable and challenging to play courses other than your own.

The unique thing about golf also is (compared with all other sports) that you can do that one shot that no professional Player in the world can do better. Also, players with different skills can battle each other fairly and competitively.

Favorite club in the bag and why?

My very old Scotty Cameron Newport II Putter! I am sure there are better options today, but sometimes the old Scotty holes an incredible one putt and lets me forget all the 3 putts I have done before in the same round. Also, the putter always reflects your daily form very honestly, forcing you to forget your everyday worries.

Favorite player?

Of course, it is Tiger Woods because he changed the whole sport in so many good ways.

Imagine, for example, that the actual World No. 1 player has to keep his “pole position” for more than 11 years from now on to compare with Tiger.

Or the fact that Tiger Woods (on PGA Tour 2002 - 2005) only missed three of his 1.543 putts from inside of three feet (0.00194% !)

Fantasy four-ball?

An excellent idea would be the 3 GOAT´S Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky (I played Ice Hockey for a long time before I started with golf) and Michael Jordan.

But to be honest, I would always prefer to meet up at Augusta National for around with my best friends.

Best course in Germany?

It is ABSOLUTELY my home course at Golfclub Beuerberg, where overall, the whole package is simply unbeatable. Great people and a warm atmosphere, a beautiful golf course and multiple award-winning restaurants with outstanding service from the staff.

Course you'd love to play but haven't?

"The Faldo Cource - Dubai"

Can you mention three holes from your club that you think will be crucial in an upcoming match?

I can imagine the stretch from the holes 5/6/7 is quite tricky, especially for first-timers, as there is a short and tight par 4 and the longest and most challenging Par 4, all mixed with much water out of bounds and tough greens. Even highly talented players have failed desperately here.

Augusta National (if anyone who reads this can give us a tee time, feel free to contact me ;-) ).

Item you never leave behind on your travels?

From the golf courses in Dubai, I have been able to play them all for several years. Dubai is a unique place where you find the highest quality. I cannot wait to be back. That's why I always make a yearly winter escape golf trip with my friends to Dubai.

My golf bag. I love to play golf in beautiful places globally. The golf courses are primarily in stunning locations and are equipped with excellent restaurants because I'm one of those players who prefer a proper meal to a range session.

If you cannot play all the matches during the World Amateur Match Race, do not worry; we got a solution for you and your team! Each team has the right to use two reserve players, and you may only use the same players. These reserves can complement the team if needed throughout the competition.

Using up to two reserve players during the competition gives the team the necessary flexibility in case of injury, work, vacation, etc.

Will there be a senior team from Sweden that takes home the World Amateur Match Race trophy this year?

W

e had the opportunity to interview Sven Carlson, who participated in last year's edition of the World Amateur Match Race, together with his wife, Lena.

Will you and Lena also join the World Amateur Match Racen this year?

Yes, we are looking forward to the Match Race once again. We played pretty well last year but not good enough, and we will do better this year.

Last year, you did not manage to go all the way.

Will there be a player from Waxholms Golf Club in Sweden who takes home the title this year?

Well, that is definitely our goal this year. Last year we played pretty well, but in the end, we lost to the team that later won the race and ended up 9th in the finals in Dubai.

How long have you been playing golf, and what is your hcp?

We both started playing golf in 2001 when living and working in the United States. The handicap has been all over for both of us but right now, 20,9 and 25,5 respectively.

Favorite club in the bag and why?

I have an old 21 degree Nike VR_S NexCor 3 hybrid that I just love, and I have so far not had the guts to replace it.

What is your and your team partner's strength in Match Play?

We have been playing together for over 20 years and enjoy competing.

Lena is a calm, strategic player, while I sometimes play a bit too aggressive.

How many countries and different golf courses have you played?

"Sven at Björkliden Arctic Course"

Both Lena and I have had the opportunity to play golf in many countries all over the world.

We both like to travel and explore and play new courses. I think we have played in 15 + countries and probably around 100 different courses. Fancourt in South Africa, National in Turkey, Magnolia Landing in Florida, Stiklestad GK in Norway and Bro Hof G&CC and Björkliden Arctic Golf courses in Sweden are rounds we remember with great pleasure.

Another golf course to mention is Tornio GK, the longest Par 3 in the world. It takes 1 hour and 6 seconds to play, and you play over the border from Sweden to Finland with a time difference of +1 hour.

What is the best thing about the game format Match Play, Best Ball?

Best Ball is a great golf format for a tournament or a competition. Here you can enjoy playing as a team with your partner and have the personal satisfaction of playing well as an individual. The pressure that could occur when playing a team game is very much reduced in the best ball game format.

What can your opponent from abroad expect from the Waxholms Golf course when playing the World Amateur Match Race? What do you think is the best regarding Waxholms Golf Club/Course?

Waxholms GK is a premium course and very well maintained in nice coastal surroundings facing the inlet to Stockholm. Fabulous clubhouse with a lovely restaurant and an overall very friendly and engaged staff. A definite “must play” when in Stockholm.

Can you mention three holes from Waxholms Golf Club that you think will be crucial in an upcoming match?

I would think hole 2, hole 9 and finally hole 18. They are all quite challenging, with water hazards ponds just before the green in holes 2 and 18.

Fantasy four-ball?

I and the phenomenal golfers Donald Trump who never lies or cheat, Kim Jong-un who managed 17 HIOs and 1 Birde in his first round and Vladimir Putin, a well known physical athlete. That would be an exciting round or maybe a game from hell?

Item you never leave behind on your golf travels?

My Precision Pro NX7 golf range finder and a pair of nice golf shoes.

How long have you been playing golf, and what is your hcp?

I have been playing golf for 15 years now, and my hcp is 18,2 Favorite club in the bag and why?

My 5-year-old 3 wood! So versatile and easy to use.

How many times have you participated in the World Amateur Match Race?

This is the first year. We heard about the tournament from others, and we then saw an ad about the competition and signed up.

Are there more players from your club participating in the tournament?

Yes, there are multiple teams from my club participating, as far as I know.

What is your and your team partner's strength in Match Play?

My teammate "Ann" is hcp 11,1. We played golf together for 13 years and love to play various tournaments. "Ann" is very good through the course and puts fantastic, and at the same time, she is pretty stable in the long game. My strength is probably more in keeping the ball on the fairway.

What is the best thing about the game form Match Play, Best Ball?

Golf is such an individual sport in many ways, so it's great fun to have the opportunity to play with a friend!

Favorite player?

Best Course in Belgium?

Phil Mickelson. I like his way of playing, and his powerful and sometimes inaccurate driver has also characterised Mickelson. Still, his excellent short game draws the most positive reviews, most of all his daring "Phil flop" shot in which a big swing with a high-lofted wedge against a tight lie flies a ball high into the air for a short distance.

My home club, Damme Golf and Country club, are fantastic! Our courses are suited very well for tourism and fun rounds, and anyone that comes around will enjoy the courses and the staff. The main course, Championship 18 holes, takes you along numerous natural water obstacles planted in the unique landscape of the Flemish polders. In view of the many dog-legs, it is a course that should be played with a bit of savvy.

Fantasy fourball?

Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter.

Course you'd love to play but haven't?

Augusta National Golf Club ( United States) - St. Andrews (Old Course) (Scotland) - Jumeirah Golf Estates "Earth" Course (Dubai).

I followed the professional's Race to Dubai on TV for several years. I have dreamed of playing that course, and who knows, we might qualify for the final in Dubai, and my dream comes true.

When playing the main course Championship, holes 2/9/18 are always a deadly stretch with much trouble.

My golf bag. I love to play golf in new places in the world. Last summer I played in France and Sweden.

We announced that the World Amateur Match Race World Final 2022 would return to Dubai and host three Championship Golf Courses.

The 2021 champions from Ireland, James O'Brien & Cormac Browne, have automatically qualified to defend their trophy.

The same goes for the three Australien teams, who managed to qualify for the Dubai 2021 final, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, could not travel abroad to Dubai. They are, of course, now directly qualified for the Dubai Final 2022.

In New Zealand, the teams are currently in the process of finishing the playoff from 2021. The winners will qualify for this year's final 2022 in Dubai.

Round 3 - Wednesday, November 30th The last round will be played at the flagship golf course in the UAE, the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club. The course is home to Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, a competition included in the Rolex Series, the European Tour's premium category of events.
