One of the uniqueness of the World Amateur Match Race is the Loser Bracketa second chance to qualify for the playoffs and the World Final in Dubai.

All teams start in Round 1 in the Winner Brack A team will automatically have a second chance advance to the playoffs in the Loser Bracket if they lose a match in ANY round in the Winner Bracket.

Per group race, two teams will advance to the playoffs. One team will qualify by winning the Winner Bracket, while another team will qualif by winning the Loser Bracket.
Below, we will illustrate an example.
Let us try to describe a typical scenario.
Winner Bracket - Round 1 - Match 4 between Teams 7 & 8.
Team 8 are the winner and qualifies for Round 2 - Match 14 in the Winner Bracket. (Illustrated with the red colour above).

Team 7 lost the match and will play in the Loser BracketRound 1 - Match 10 in the next match. (Illustrated with blue colour).
If you follow the "red" and "blue" teams in the table above, you can see how the "blue" team succeed in the Loser Bracket to the final / Match 29. The "red" team lost the final in the Winner Bracket / Match 27 but gets a second chance to qualify for the playoff by playing the "blue" team in the Loser Bracket final in Match 29.
Once a team reaches the knockout playoff, they are out of the tournament if they lose a match. The winning team in a playoff will qualify for the World Final in Dubai.

Rasmus Rahunen & Olli-Pekka Kuokkanen From Finland
INTERVIEWED BY MARTIN JENSENYou qualified for the Final 2022! Which Hcp do you have in the team?
Rasmus: Olli-Pekka plays off a 15.6, and I have an 8.6 handicap. We complement one another's strengths and weaknesses and hcp exceptionally well. With the new hcp regulations of max. 26, having a mix of a low + high handicap is still an excellent combination for the tournament format. This tournament is unique in that it offers players of all skill levels, ages, and genders the opportunity to participate at a high level.
Borth: It was by far the best golfing experience of our life.

Were there more teams from Finland that qualified for the World Finale in Dubai?

Rasmus: No, this year, we were the only team that had the pleasure of joining the World Final in Dubai. It was the first year the tournament was available in Finland, but I am sure 2023 will have a significant increase in registrations from Finland once the players see all the pictures and videos of the World Final.
Olli-Pekka: As participation grows, it will be thrilling to see more teams from each nation compete in the finals each year. More spots will be available at the world finale as more teams participate.

How many matches did you play locally in Finland to reach the final in Dubai?

Olli-Pekka: To qualify for the World Finale in Dubai, we had to play 8 matches, winning 7 and losing 1. The 1 lost match we had sent us into the Loser Bracket gave us a second chance to be eligible for the playoffs and the opportunity to qualify for the World Final.
Rasmus: To be quite honest, the Loser Bracket is a fantastic idea since it gives everyone a second chance to qualify for the playoffs and the World Final in Dubai.
We also appreciated the opportunity to use one of our reserve players when necessary.
What do you like most about the tournament concept?
Both: We think it starts with the details. The entire staff & tournament is first class - every aspect of it. The team makes every minute of the event an unforgettable experience on & off the course. Players & families are treated like professional athletes, and the tournament formats yield great competition.

Being together with 70 other "winners" who are super excited and full of good energy makes everything an A+ event that you do not wanner go from. Not to forget the brilliant idea to put 100 people on a yacht party on the first day as a "get-together event".
Rasmus: We MUST come back again in November this year
The final in Dubai, was it the experience you expected?
Olli-Pekka: This experience in Dubai was by far the best golf experience of my life. The people, the golf, the competition - it exceeded the already high expectations we had going into the event. Simply an unforgettable week!

Rasmus: My favourite part of the Final was that we were definitely treated like Tour pros. Everything was organized really well, not just the golf part but also all the other activities we got to do, for example, the yacht party.
Finland is a long country on the map. Were there long journeys to play your matches?
Rasmus: There were no long journeys. Our group were all local & we competed against some great players. Our longest trip was probably 50–60 kilometres.
Even during playoffs, we did not have to travel far.
Will you participate in this year's tournament?
Both: Yeah, of course.....that is a no-brainer since we won in the World Final 2022, the right to start directly in the playoff for the 2023 tournament. 4 wins, and we are back in the World Final in November.
We hope more golfers from Finland will join us in this amazing competition. It was an honour to represent Finland in the 2022 final, and we look forward to getting to know more contestants this year.
