Planning such an important event can feel overwhelming at times, but it needn’t be. Surrounding yourself with a supportive bridal party, along with family and friends, helps turn the journey into a joyful experience. They’ll be there to calm nerves, share ideas, and help ensure everything runs smoothly from morning preparations to evening celebrations, offering reassurance and laughter when you need it most.

Organisation is the key to a stress-free wedding, and that’s where a detailed planner or wedding journal becomes invaluable. From seating plans and supplier

deadlines to styling notes and budget tracking, having everything in one place allows you to stay focused and in control. With the logistics taken care of, you’re free to savour what truly matters –celebrating the love between you and your partner as you begin a beautiful new chapter together.

Today’s weddings are more personal and expressive than ever before. THE BENEFITS OF AN

ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

We practice our vows, our walk down the aisle, we have hair trials, make-up trials and dress or suit fittings to make sure everything goes flawlessly on the day; why not bring that spirit to your wedding photos too? It’ll be worth it!

As a wedding photographer, I’m occasionally asked if I also offer engagement sessions; but I would love for more couples to ask because there are so many benefits to having one outside of the beautiful photos you’ll receive.

An engagement session is more than just a photoshoot –it’s a chance to connect, practice, and create some extra fun memories before the big day. While it’s ultimately up to the couple, I always encourage them to consider it, and here’s why:

WHY GO FOR AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

1) MULTI PURPOSE IMAGES!

First and foremost it’s about the experience; but the actual images themselves have multiple uses! Many couples love using engagement photos for save-the-date cards, wedding invitations, wedding websites and even wedding reception décor.

They add such an extra special personal touch to your wedding day; especially if the outfits you wear to the session match your wedding theme!

2) IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW LONG YOU’VE BEEN ENGAGED!

Sometimes when I float the idea of an engagement shoot past a couple, they’ll respond by saying “but we’ve been engaged for ages“.

An engagement session is different from a proposal session; we aren’t photographing the moment you got engaged, but we are celebrating that you are engaged!

3) JUST LIKE OLD FRIENDS – GETTING TO KNOW YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

“We just wanted to thank you again for today it was lovely to meet you, we had so much fun! Looking forward to seeing you again at the wedding! x” – Rebecca & Daniel

Engagement sessions are an excellent way to establish a relationship with your photographer before the wedding; it’s much nicer to feel like an old friend you can trust is showing up to get your wedding photos!

It’s an opportunity to communicate your style preferences, discuss any concerns, and get a feel for how your photographer works. The more familiar we are with each other, the more at ease you’ll feel when it comes time to capture those intimate wedding moments.

Trust and comfort are key to getting great photos, and an engagement shoot helps build that rapport better than anything.

4) BUILDING COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

For many couples, the wedding day is the first time they’ve had professional photos taken together.

Naturally, this can lead to some nervousness or selfconsciousness in front of the camera. An engagement session serves as the perfect opportunity to get comfortable with your photographer and with being photographed. I’ll guide you through different poses and interactions, which allows you to practice feeling relaxed and natural, ensuring you look and feel your best on your wedding day.

5) UNIQUE & MEANINGFUL

Every couple is unique, and the engagement session allows us to explore and capture that uniqueness. It’s a time to choose locations that are meaningful to you; especially if you won’t be going there on your wedding day! Whether it’s the place you first met, a favourite park, or a scenic location that matches your style.

It’s also an opportunity to experiment with different types of shots – be it candid, dramatic, romantic, or even playful. I often find that couples’ personalities truly shine through in these shoots, allowing for more creative freedom and capturing their true essence.

6) SHAKE OFF THE STIFFNESS

Many couples worry about looking “stiff” or unnatural in wedding photos. Engagement shoots are the perfect opportunity to practice different poses or postures, learn which angles look best, and get comfortable with movement.

This also allows me to see how you interact naturally, helping me to anticipate how to help you feel comfortable on the wedding day and get the most flattering and authentic images.

7) MAKE IT A DATE NIGHT ACTIVITY!

Your engagement is such a special time, but it’s so easy to get swept up in the stress of the wedding planning that we often stop noticing the buzz it gives us. Use the engagement shoot as a chance to catch your breath, lean into each other, smile and enjoy doing something fun and different. Maybe even go out for dinner or a walk on the beach together afterwards!

8) STRESS-FREE PHOTOS

The wedding day can be a whirlwind of activity –there’s a lot going on, and everyone wants a piece of you! With an engagement shoot, there’s no time crunch. It’s a more laid-back session, which allows us to take our time and focus on the details.

We can work together to ensure we get the best shots without the added pressure of the wedding timeline, and you can feel more confident when it’s time to step in front of the camera on your wedding day.

CONCLUSION

From a photographer’s perspective, engagement shoots are invaluable. They’re not just about getting great photos -they’re about building trust, ensuring comfort, and creating lasting memories.

It’s an investment in your overall wedding experience, one that ensures you feel confident, prepared, and ready for the big day. So, if you’re on the fence about scheduling an engagement session, I’d highly recommend it. You’ll thank yourself later when you have beautiful photos and memories that last a lifetime!

“I DO” A PLACE TO SAY

The journey towards your dream wedding begins with one of the most important decisions you’ll make, choosing the perfect venue. This choice not only sets the tone and atmosphere for your celebration but also influences every other aspect of your planning journey.

When searching for your ideal venue, consider key factors such as location, budget, and guest numbers. Some venues, particularly stately homes or large estates, may require a minimum number of guests, which could be restrictive if you’re planning a smaller, more intimate affair.

Start by estimating your guest list to refine your search. Keep a careful eye on your budget too — ideally, your venue should account for no more than half your total wedding spend. Once you’ve found a location that feels right, make sure you understand what’s included in the venue hire fee and set aside funds for any extras you’d like to add.

If your ceremony and reception are at separate venues, consider the logistics. Travel between locations affects not just you and your guests, but also your suppliers — your photographer, for example, may charge more for additional travel. To make things smoother, consider arranging transport for guests if there’s a significant distance between venues.

Once your venue is booked, the enjoyable part of personalising your day begins. The setting will naturally guide decisions about catering, décor, transport, and even your attire, ensuring everything ties together beautifully with your chosen theme.

Whenever possible, attend venue open days or showcases. Visiting in person helps you imagine how your wedding will look and feel, giving you confidence that the space complements your vision.

Also, think about the backdrop your venue provides for photography. A location with beautiful scenery or striking architecture can make a world of difference to your wedding photos, offering timeless images you’ll treasure for years to come.

Ultimately, your venue forms the foundation of your entire wedding experience. With thoughtful consideration and a clear vision of your celebration, you’ll create the perfect stage for a truly memorable day that reflects both your love story and personal style.

CHURCH WEDDING

TYING THE KNOT IN TRADITION

A church wedding remains one of the most timeless and meaningful ways to celebrate marriage.

Rooted in faith and community, a church wedding offers a sense of occasion few other settings can match. From the organ’s sound to walking down the aisle, a ceremony beautifully combines tradition with personal expression, creating memories that last a lifetime.

For many couples, a church wedding is about more than the setting; it is about symbolism. The vows exchanged before family, friends and faith hold meaning. Whether you choose your local parish or a historic church, each location offers charm and belonging. The beauty of a church wedding lies in continuity, as you join generations of couples who have stood in the same place to pledge love.

If you are considering a Church of England ceremony, one advantage is flexibility. You do not have to marry in your local parish; in many cases, you can marry in a church with which you have a connection, such as where you were baptised or your family worships. Speak with the vicar early to discuss eligibility and legal requirements. You may be asked to attend services before your wedding, which is a lovely way to feel part of the community.

Music plays an important role in creating atmosphere. From hymns and organ pieces to contemporary choices performed by a choir or soloist, your selections can make the ceremony personal. Readings, too, allow for expression, whether you choose scripture, poetry or a heartfelt message from a loved one.

Decorating the church can add personality without overwhelming its natural beauty. Simple floral arrangements, pew ends and candles work beautifully, complementing the architecture while enhancing the sense of romance and reverence.

One of the most special moments of any church wedding is the grand exit, walking out together as newlyweds while the bells ring in celebration. It is a moment filled with joy and symbolism, marking the beginning of your new life together.

A church wedding combines tradition, faith and love in a way that feels sacred and personal. Whether your ceremony is grand or intimate, it is a beautiful way to begin your journey as husband and wife.

THE FREEDOM OF A

CIVIL CEREMONY

A civil ceremony, free from any religious content, gives couples the freedom to choose almost any licensed location for their nuptials, providing a wonderful opportunity for creativity.

These ceremonies are typically concise and secular, offering a simpler process than traditional church weddings. Opting for a distinctive or unconventional venue can create a remarkable and memorable atmosphere, ensuring the day feels truly special for both the couple and their guests.

Across the UK, the range of approved venues for civil ceremonies is extensive — from majestic castles and stately homes to more unique settings such as museums, aquariums, and sports clubs. These venues combine the formalities of a registry office with the individuality of a personally chosen backdrop.

While registry offices remain a straightforward and popular choice, they may lack the character and charm of alternative licensed venues. Regardless of location, certain legal requirements must be fulfilled

— such as giving Notice of Marriage at least 28 days before the ceremony and ensuring it takes place within 12 months of that notice.

The appeal of a civil ceremony lies in its flexibility and potential for personalisation. Couples can design every aspect of their day — from readings and music to the overall tone — to reflect their personalities and shared story. The exchange of vows is often the most moving and meaningful moment, offering complete freedom of expression. Without prescribed religious wording, couples can share their promises in their own way — through original vows, cherished poems, or even song lyrics that hold special significance.

At its heart, a civil ceremony celebrates love, respect, and commitment in its purest form. It allows couples to speak from the heart, crafting a moment that is as genuine and individual as their relationship itself.

OUTDOOR WEDDINGS

PLANNING THE PERFECT

OUTDOOR WEDDING

From inspiration for your outdoor wedding to the legal requirements.

In the UK and Scotland, the legal requirement to be married outside it must be under a fixed roof. This can be a gazebo or a veranda, but not a marquee. However, if you want your magical day to be set in a fantasy woodland are,a you can hold a blessing and have the legal ceremony elsewhere.

But this shouldn’t stop you from having that fairytale wedding you have always dreamed of. Many venues will hold an outdoor wedding on their grounds or gardens, by providing a legal structure such as a bandstand or a pavilion. Then you may continue the party inside.

If your heart is set on that woodland setting, then holding a blessing in that spot is your best bet. With outdoor weddings, your guest list can be infinite, but you still must cater to your guests’ needs, especially with the unpredictable British weather. Providing baskets of blankets and coats or having outdoor heating like heat lamps will keep your guests cosy. But if the heavens open, then having a sheltered area is a must, perhaps a marquee, you will need somewhere to

serve food, so this is a great option. You can find many suppliers who hire out marquees; find the right one to fit within your budget.

Once you have your guests dry and warm, the next stop is to feed them. Buffets are a good option for an outdoor setting like this. Your guests can grab and go when they please. It may be less formal than a sit-down 3-course dinner, but it has a rustic charm. You can have tables for different foods and dietary requirements, maybe even a sweets table instead of a wedding cake.

Keeping your guests entertained is your next job, setting up outdoor games such as lawn chess, horseshoe or even fairground game stalls. Kids would love it.

Thoughtfully planning is a must to keep the outdoor charm alive throughout your wedding. By keeping your guests happy, you will cast lasting memories.

TIPS FOR THE PERFECT WEDDING RECEPTION

Make happy memories with the perfect reception arrangements.

Planning the perfect wedding reception can be daunting, but with these useful tips for careful planning, the banquet should go without a hitch.

It is wise to produce a sensible seating plan. This assigns all guests to the correct tables and leaves room for people to sit next to their friends. For the uncle or cousin who suddenly arrives late, consider a spare seat, so if the table is occupied by a few sociable people, the late arrival will not feel excluded.

Children easily get bored, so if the reception is longer than a few hours, it could be helpful to provide younger guests with a plain paper tablecloth for crayoning or a box of Lego. It may be worth considering asking the venue if it has a quiet corner for any autistic guests who may have sensory issues. A wedding reception is never a cheap affair, so it is wise to think about costs, especially if finances are tight. Remember that long banqueting tables are less expensive as they only need one centrepiece as well as a few flower bouquets, whereas decorating many tables could wind up costing a pretty penny.

Once seating has been decided on, there are creative ways to provide helpful seating plans. Flowers or love heart templates make for a creative talking piece. Name cards and fancy table numbers need not be expensive. By sourcing out craft supplies from the local art suppliers or supermarkets, a professional-looking display can be easily achieved and, in most cases, the simpler the style, the more effective.

Wedding Favours such as personalised chocolate or key rings will ensure your big day will be remembered for years to come, and if you are feeling lavish and your budget allows, consider a harpist to keep your guests entertained.

In conclusion, whether the reception is an informal buffet or a simple outdoor get-together, there is no need to stress over the proceedings. If the atmosphere is relaxed, guests will naturally mingle and enjoy the wonderful reception.

WHY EVERY WEDDING NEEDS A PHOTOBOOTH

As weddings evolve into more personalised, guest-focused celebrations, one trend continues to delight couples and guests alike: the wedding photobooth.

Far more than a novelty, a well-curated photobooth provides stylish, interactive entertainment that blends effortlessly into the evening’s festivities.

From the moment the formalities wind down and the evening guests arrive, a photobooth becomes a focal point for laughter, creativity, and connection. Guests of all ages are drawn to the booth—donning playful props or simply enjoying the chance to capture a moment in their finest attire. It’s especially popular with children, offering a charming distraction while adults mingle.

A key feature offered by premium providers like Now Entertain Me is a beautifully presented guestbook. Each guest is invited to add their photo montage alongside a handwritten message, creating a keepsake that’s both heartfelt and humorous. The newlyweds

receive this unique album at the end of the night, along with a full digital gallery of all the images taken.

The booth runs during the early evening, typically from 7pm to 10pm, providing vibrant entertainment without overshadowing the first dance. As the lights dim and the music takes over, the booth discreetly packs away—leaving only memories and mementos behind.

For couples seeking to elevate their evening celebration with style, sophistication and spontaneity, a photobooth is a timeless choice.

FINDING THAT PERFECT GOWN

A helpful guide to finding that Fairytale dress of your dreams.

It’s important to keep an open mind when shopping for your gown. You have pictured that perfect dress in your mind since you started planning your big day, but it’s important to take in account that maybe that dress isn’t perfect for you.

Budget is important too; you don’t want your heart crushed when you finally find that magical dress only for it to be out of your budget. So, shop around a few months before the big day. Visit several bridal shops and get their prices, make a spreadsheet or simply write it down. Then, you can finally search for your dream dress.

DRESS STYLES. WHAT TO LOOK FOR

For that Royal look, a Ball Gown will do the trick. A fitted bodice with your choice of neckline and a full body skirt, it’s the perfect dress for a Princess.

You can style it easily by adjusting the neckline, you can have an off-the-shoulder look, a sweetheart neckline even a square neckline. You can add cape sleeves, which will add that touch of magic. You can opt for gloves, have a bow at the back, or even go bold with the colour and details! Not all dresses must be white.

But if you’re going for a simple look, then a vintage ruffle dress is a good starting point. An Edwardianstyle laced dress with short sleeves and ruffles is a beautiful option. It has a rustic charm, perfect for an outdoor wedding. Pair it with a lace veil and some flat heel shoes for more of an elegant touch.

SIZE AND SHAPE

Now, every body is beautiful, and no matter your size and shape, you deserve to feel your best. For that, we suggest you experiment with different cuts of dresses. >>>

BRIDAL GOWNS

Full Figured, Fuller bust, hips and waistline, try to avoid dresses that are too form-fitting, instead opt for something more voluptuous, fuller skirts like an A-Line will mask your lower body, and angled lines will minimise your figure, creating the illusion of small hips. Look at dresses with a V-waist and a V-neckline. Petite, Shorter height, smaller bust, hips and waistline. Vertical lines make you look taller; mermaid and sheath styles will do the trick. High necklines will also lengthen your torso to aid in that elongated look. Asymmetrical waistlines like a Basque are perfect. Empire waistlines with A-Line dresses are your friend, too. Large skirt dresses will swallow you up and add width and not height.

Pear-shaped ladies with a smaller bust and fuller hips, a portrait neckline with large sleeves will widen your upper body and make you seem fuller. Try to avoid the mermaid skirt here, as it will do you no favours and will attract too much attention to your lower half. Avoid inward cut necklines, such as halters and steer clear of clingy material too. Best to keep clear of fuller skirts too, with ruffles and bustles.

Veils are important too; there are many lengths you can pick from, from the mini at 45cm to the Royal at a stunning 400cm. Find a veil that complements your dress.

Whatever you pick, make sure it’s perfect for you; it’s your big day after all.

PRESERVING YOUR WEDDING DRESS

What becomes of that perfect wedding dress after the most amazing wedding?

Every year, thousands of wedding dresses are thrown away, and the impact on the environment is catastrophic. Piles of oil-based polyester are not biodegradable, meaning that it may sit in landfill sites for decades.

So, what are the best eco-friendly solutions for that

There are plenty of great selling solutions for both designer and non-designer gowns. Adding the dress to an auction site or setting a fixed price on social media platforms such as Gum Tree or eBay is a great way to repurpose any dream dress. The money that a seller can earn may not bring riches beyond the dreams of avarice yet, but it is good to know that the dress can provide another happy bride with a day to remember.

If, for any reason, the old wedding dress does not sell yet the material is in good shape, there are dressmakers who can upcycle the yards of fabric and create a decorative christening gow,n but if there are no babies in the family, what about celebrating a second honeymoon with a stylish dress custom-made from the extra yards of fabric?

A tailor may re-sculpt the bridal gown into an evening gown, with which to celebrate a second honeymoon, but if none of those ideas suit, there are charities which will be happy to take a second-hand dress, such as the Wedding Wishing Well Foundation. This charity is based in Devon and provides weddings for those who struggle with finances.

‘We Do,’ By Esposa, is doing just that, and gowns can be donated by accessing their website on Instagram and Facebook.

However, there are other charities which take wedding dresses. You could donate a wedding gown to Angel Gowns, a non-profit organisation that will happily

take your wedding dress to create a beautiful dress for a stillborn child.

For an unconventional approach and a bit of fun, why not try the ‘Trash the Dress’ trend? A professional photo shoot which involves wearing the dress again, but involves running the dress through a muddy farmyard or playing in the sea.

There are a few storage options if preserving the gown seems a better idea.

A bridal shop may store the dress for you, but there is normally a charge, and if the dress is not stored professionally, it could cause the dress to become tarnished.

Remember, never store the gown in a plastic container or vacuum pack, the reason being that plastic, over time, emits fumes, and the dress will turn yellow.

The ideal way to make sure the material is fine for the future is to have it professionally cleaned after the wedding and stored away from light.

Heat and damp can ruin any gown, so never store the dress in the attic. Mice, insects, and atmospherics can destroy the dress.

Always store your dress in acid-free paper and seal the gown in a proper storage box to avoid any disappointment in years to come.

Finally, to ensure it does not get damaged or gather dust under the bed, the dress could be framed. Ironbridge Fine Arts in the UK does this, and their dedicated, professional team will ensure that any beautiful gown will always look its best.

BRIDAL HAIR INSPIRATION

Elegant styles to complete your wedding look

Your wedding hairstyle is the finishing touch that brings your entire bridal look together. Whether you dream of a romantic updo, effortless waves, or a sleek, modern style, the perfect hair can enhance your dress and reflect your personality.

From timeless chignons and soft curls to boho braids and elegant ponytails, there’s a style to suit every bride and theme. Explore these beautiful ideas for inspiration and discover how a carefully chosen hairstyle can help you feel confident, radiant, and completely yourself on your special day.

HEAVENLY BEAUTY

NATURAL MAKE - UP FOR YOUR WEDDING CELEBRATION

You know that all eyes will be on you when you enter the place where you are to be married on your wedding day.

Begin to think about your make-up and how you want to be seen in front of your family and friends. It is important to listen to what your heart is saying to you when you are thinking about the way you want to look.

If you are thinking of booking a make-up artist, be sure you feel comfortable with them. It might be wise to try out a few different looks in advance to make sure you choose the right look for you. Be mindful of whether you will be having your hair up or down, as this might determine the type of look you decide upon. Brides will prioritise make-up that feels authentic, and which complements their features and aligns perfectly with their theme.

A natural look continues to dominate; brides are choosing minimal make-up, enough to enhance and give radiance to their skin tone, giving a soft and timeless look.

Creating natural, glowing skin, use lightweight foundations and highlighters. Liquid highlighters create a pearl-like glow. Shimmering tones with champagne and pearl touches create a glowing effect.

Go for a soft pink blush on your cheeks; this will give a youthful and romantic look.

For autumn and winter weddings, you will find red lipstick a popular choice, along with red nails too. Burgundy or berry colours are other options you could try. In making a statement with your lipstick, it will ensure you stand out.

For a classic bridal look, accented eyes and a glossy lip colour with freshly coloured cheeks are a must. On trend are full and fluffy eyebrows, perfect for framing your face and highlighting your natural beauty. Use pencils and brow gel to define and lift.

Key themes for this year are sustainability, inclusivity, and motivation.

Whatever you decide, love the woman you see in the mirror. This is your day to feel you are the most beautiful woman in the world.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SUIT FOR THE GROOM

Every groom deserves to look and feel his best on the big day, and the right suit plays a crucial role in achieving that. From classic tailoring to modern styles, a well-chosen suit enhances confidence, complements the wedding theme and ensures you stand out for all the right reasons.

When selecting your wedding suit, start with the overall style and atmosphere of your day. A formal black tie affair calls for a sleek tuxedo, complete with a bow tie and crisp white shirt. For a traditional church wedding, a tailored three piece suit in navy, charcoal or grey is timeless and elegant. If your celebration is more relaxed, such as a summer garden or beach wedding, consider lighter fabrics like linen or cotton in softer tones such as beige, pale blue or light grey.

Fit is everything. Even the most expensive suit will look ordinary if it does not fit properly. Investing in professional tailoring ensures sharp lines, comfort and confidence throughout the day. Pay attention to details like sleeve length, trouser break and shoulder fit, as these small elements make a world of difference. Bespoke or made to measure suits offer the perfect opportunity to create something truly personal, with options to customise lapels, linings and buttons to reflect your individual style.

Your choice of accessories can elevate your look further. A pocket square, tie or bow tie adds a touch of personality, while cufflinks bring understated sophistication. For a cohesive bridal party, coordinate colours or fabrics with your groomsmen, ensuring your outfit stands out subtly as the groom.

Footwear should never be overlooked. Classic leather brogues or loafers in black or tan remain versatile options, but ensure they are well polished and comfortable for a long day of celebration. Matching your belt and shoes adds a refined finish.

Finally, consider a smart watch or timeless timepiece. It is both a functional accessory and a stylish reminder of one of the most important days of your life.

Whether you opt for a contemporary cut or a traditional tailored design, your wedding suit should reflect who you are. With careful planning and attention to detail, you will step confidently into married life looking effortlessly distinguished.

HOW TO LOOK YOUR BEST

Every groom wants to look and feel their best on their wedding day for the person they love. Their smile will be everything to you when they see you waiting at the end of the aisle looking amazing. It is your responsibility to plan out what you need to include in your grooming portfolio to ensure you tick all the boxes required.

Let’s think about hair care, it is advisable to see your barber a week or two in advance of the big day. This will allow your cut to settle in. If you are thinking of changing your usual style, do this in advance and speak to your stylist.

When it comes to facial hair, are you are clean shaven maybe splurge out on a professional wet shave. Doing it yourself, make sure your razor is sharp and master the art of a good shave to minimize skin irritation or razor burns.

Personal grooming when you have a beard, moustache or both, means making sure they are trimmed well before and shaped to give definition that suit your features. Use beard oils to help with moisturizing facial hair, or balms for taming unruly hair. Remember to trim eyebrows and nostril hair too if needed.

It is also important to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin regularly. This is something you can start in the weeks beforehand, if it’s not something you have done already. Don’t forget sunscreen when it is needed.

Why not have some pre-wedding pampering with your best man, family and friends or partner. You could opt for a spa day, including a massage, a facial and a manicure ensuring your nails are shaped and strong ready for the big day. Ending with a healthy lunch to end.

To finish all that off, your choice of scent for yourself is something that should suit your personality and compliments your skin. Opt for a signature cologne, keep it subtle and pleasant.

You are feeling ready, your partner is ready, a new life for both of you awaits.

10 WAYS TO MAKE MUM FEEL SPECIAL ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

Your wedding day is a celebration of love, commitment, and family. While the father of the bride often gets his fair share of the spotlight, it’s just as important to make mum feel special too!

She’s one of the most important women in your life – your biggest cheerleader, your rock, and the one who’s been by your side through it all. Your wedding day is the perfect opportunity to show her just how much she means to you and create special memories together.

As a wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to witness countless beautiful moments shared between brides and their mums. The joy and love in these moments are truly irreplaceable. If you’re wondering how to make your mum feel extra special on your wedding day, here are some thoughtful and meaningful ideas to create lasting memories you’ll both treasure forever.

Let’s make Mum feel special!

1) PERSONALIZED GIFTS FOR MUM

A unique, heartfelt gift is a beautiful way to show your appreciation and make your mum feel truly special. Choose something that reflects her personality or the bond you share. Here are a few thoughtful ideas:

* A custom piece of jewelry with her initials, a meaningful engraving, or a birthstone

* A framed photo capturing a cherished moment between the two of you

* A handwritten letter expressing your gratitude and love in your own words

A personal gift like this will make your mum feel cherished and appreciated, especially when she sees the thought and effort you’ve put into creating something just for her.

2) HAVE A SPECIAL MOMENT WITH MUM BEFORE THE CEREMONY

Wedding days are often a whirlwind of activity, and it’s easy to get swept up in the chaos. That’s why it’s so meaningful to carve out a quiet moment with your mum before the ceremony. Whether it’s sharing a cup of tea, reminiscing, or simply sitting together to talk, this intimate time can help calm any nerves and deepen your connection.

Consider asking your mum if she’d like to be the one to help you into your dress or suit – it’s such a meaningful role – or if she’d prefer a surprise spotlight moment, like a bridal reveal.

If you’d like this moment captured, let your photographer know ahead of time so they can plan for it and ensure it’s beautifully documented.

3) INCORPORATE MUM INTO THE CEREMONY

Your wedding ceremony is the heart of your special day, and finding a way to include your mum can make it even more meaningful. Instead of having her as just a spectator, consider giving her a role that highlights her importance in your life.

Here are a few ideas:

* Ask her to deliver a special reading or prayer during the ceremony

* Include her in the processional by walking with her or sharing a beautiful mother-daughter moment

* Light a candle together as a symbol of your shared love and family bond

These thoughtful gestures will make your mum feel like an essential part of your wedding, emphasizing her irreplaceable role in your life and the love you share.

4) CREATE A MOTHER -DAUGHTER DANCE

The father-daughter dance is a well-loved wedding tradition, but why not create a special moment for you and your mum too? A mother-daughter dance is a heartfelt way to honour your relationship and celebrate all the love and support she’s given you over the years.

Pick a song that holds meaning for both of you – whether it’s a nostalgic classic, a song from your childhood, or something more modern that captures your unique bond. This shared

moment on the dance floor will be unforgettable for both of you and a highlight of the evening for everyone watching.

5) THANK MUM IN YOUR WEDDING SPEECH

Your wedding speech is a wonderful chance to publicly honour your mum and the incredible role she’s played in your life. Take a moment to thank her for her unwavering love, support, and guidance over the years – it’s a heartfelt gesture that will mean the world to her.

Expressing your gratitude in front of your family and friends not only highlights how special she is to you but also ensures she feels deeply appreciated on this important day.

6) LET MUM GIVE HER OWN SPEECH

A mother’s speech can be an incredibly touching moment during your wedding, giving her the opportunity to share her love, pride, and joy as she watches you begin this new chapter. It’s a beautiful way for her to reflect on your relationship, share cherished memories, and thank your guests for being part of such a special day.

If your mum feels comfortable, encourage her to give a speech or say a few words during the reception. Her heartfelt perspective on your life and childhood will be deeply meaningful—not just to you, but to everyone listening.

This special moment will add an emotional and unique touch to your wedding, honouring her role and making her feel truly celebrated.

7) HONORING MUM IF SHE’S NO LONGER WITH US

For some nearlyweds, the wedding day brings bittersweet emotions, as their mum is no longer here to share in the joy of the occasion. If your mum has passed away, finding meaningful ways to honour her memory can help you feel her presence on this special day.

Here are a couple of thoughtful ideas:

* Wear Something of Hers: Incorporating a piece of her jewellery, a veil, or another cherished item is a beautiful way to keep her close to your heart throughout the day.

* Add a Bouquet Charm: A small photo of your mum attached to your bouquet is a touching way to have her walk down the aisle with you and stay by your side all day long.

* Reserved seat: Leave a reserved seat with a beautiful photo of her, that way she has a front row view of your wedding ceremony.

8) PLAN A PRE-WEDDING PAMPERING SESSION

Before the wedding day whirlwind begins, why not treat your mum to a special pampering session? Whether it’s a spa day, a manicure, or even a relaxed breakfast just for the two of you, these moments of self-care are a wonderful way to help her feel cherished and ready for the big day.

Not only will this give her a chance to unwind, but it’s also a meaningful way to spend quality time together before all the excitement begins. It’s a gesture that shows just how much you value her love and support.

9) GIVE MUM A ROLE IN YOUR WEDDING PLANNING

Including your mum in the wedding planning process is a meaningful way to make her feel valued and appreciated. Even if she’s not taking on major responsibilities, inviting her to help with certain aspects can create beautiful bonding moments.

Whether it’s choosing flowers, helping you shop for your dress, or simply offering moral support, her involvement will show her just how important she is to you. Plus, having her input can make the planning process even more special and memorable.

10) DON’T FORGET THE THANK YOU CARD AFTER THE WEDDING

After the excitement of your wedding day has passed, take a moment to send your mum a heartfelt thank-you card. Express how much she means to you and how grateful you are for her love, support, and presence on your special day.

A handwritten note filled with genuine words of appreciation can become a cherished keepsake – a lasting reminder of the bond you share and the role she played in making your day unforgettable.

I really hope this helped! With love AIMEE LINCE Article and images courtesy of aimeelince.co.uk

FROM CLASSIC TO QUIRKY

WEDDING TRANSPORT FOR EVERY THEME

You said yes, congratulations. Now the planning begins. Long lists are written to cover every detail. Organising the transportation for you and your guests should be one of the first items you aim to cross off your list. Booking well in advance of your magical day will guarantee it will be available on your chosen date.

There is much to consider when thinking about you and your wedding guests’ needs for the day. Think about where your wedding ceremony and reception will be held, are there different locations? How does everybody get from one place to the next? Timings for transport need to be thought through. When a decision on the location is made for your photographs, is it in the same location or not?

If you are planning a dream destination wedding, is it a place you and your guests know? Would organised transportation be helpful? The option of bus travel would be a beneficial extra. There are a few important questions to ask when asking for quotes from your chosen choices. Be sure to get these early.

Think about whether fuel, mileage or tipping is an added extra. The last thing you need is any hidden costs at the last minute. Your budget should allow 3-5% for transportation and accommodation, and don’t forget insurance.

The fun part is choosing the type of travel you want to get you around on your special day. Dreaming of classic or quirky, the choice is yours.

Classic or vintage cars are a popular choice. Timeless favourites such as Rolls Royce, Bentley or Jaguar, that are full of English charm, could be the one. A 1968 Ford Mustang would be a daring option.

The ultimate choice of a horse and carriage for your fairytale wedding could be your dream brought to life.

On the quirkier side, you could opt for a Volkswagen Campervan, a motorcycle or a refurbished vintage bus.

Remember, when choosing your transportation, trust your intuition to guide you. It should fit your uniqueness and individuality, ensuring you both feel amazing on your wedding day.

A SYMBOL OF FOREVER

Your wedding rings are perhaps the most meaningful purchase you’ll ever make.

These small but powerful symbols represent love, unity, and lifelong commitment, a promise you’ll carry every day. Choosing the perfect pair deserves time and thought, ensuring they complement one another and reflect your shared sense of style and story as a couple.

Traditionally, wedding rings were crafted in yellow gold or platinum, but today’s designs offer countless ways to make them your own. From diamond-set bands to mixed metals or brushed finishes, modern craftsmanship enables couples to strike a balance between timeless elegance and contemporary flair. Many now opt for bespoke creations, featuring engraving of meaningful details inside the band, such as initials, a wedding date, or a phrase that holds personal significance. These touches transform each ring into something truly unique.

Of course, beauty must go hand in hand with comfort. Your ring is something you’ll wear every day, so it should fit seamlessly into your life. Consider how it sits alongside your engagement

ring, or how the design reflects your lifestyle, simple and classic for understated elegance, or textured and bold for a modern feel.

While the rings are the heart of your wedding jewellery, other pieces complete the occasion. For brides, a touch of sparkle can make all the difference, perhaps a pair of diamond or pearl earrings, a pendant, or a fine bracelet to complement the gown without stealing attention. The aim is to enhance, not overwhelm, allowing the look to feel balanced and graceful.

Grooms, too, have their moment to shine. Refined cufflinks or a classic watch can add polish and personality to your outfit. Whether it’s sleek silver, warm rose gold, or something more contemporary, these details carry lasting sentiment and sophistication, reminders of a remarkable day.

In the end, your wedding rings and jewellery are more than adornments; they’re lasting expressions of love and identity. Chosen with care, they become lifelong keepsakes, linking the memories of your wedding day to every day that follows.

CAPTURING THE MAGIC

Your wedding photographs are more than images; they are timeless memories, capturing the laughter, emotion and beauty of one of the most important days of your life. Finding the right photographer is essential, as their style and approach will shape how your day is remembered for years to come.

Start your search by exploring a photographer’s portfolio. Every professional has their own creative eye; some lean towards soft, romantic tones while others favour a more modern, documentary feel. Take time to browse full wedding galleries, not just highlight reels, to see how they capture every moment from morning preparations to the first dance. If their work resonates with you, arrange a meeting and discuss the shots that matter most. Whether it’s candid laughter, family portraits or intimate couple moments, make sure they understand your vision clearly.

Connection is key. You’ll spend much of your wedding day with your photographer, so it’s important to feel relaxed and confident around them. A natural rapport allows you to be yourselves, resulting in photographs that truly reflect your relationship. When you feel at ease, your smiles are genuine, your poses unforced and your love story shines through every frame.

Many photographers see their work as more than a profession; it’s their passion. They take pride in creating something personal and meaningful.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions about their approach, equipment or the way they handle different lighting or weather conditions. A good photographer will welcome the opportunity to collaborate and make you feel comfortable every step of the way.

While it can be tempting to focus on cost, remember that your photographs are a lasting investment. Years from now, they’ll be the tangible reminders of every emotion you felt. Choosing a photographer purely on price can often lead to disappointment, so prioritise quality, creativity and trust over savings. A talented photographer brings not only technical skill but also the ability to capture fleeting, unscripted moments that truly tell your story.

If possible, visit your venue with your photographer before the big day. This allows them to scout the best backdrops, plan their shots and understand your preferences. Discuss timing, lighting and the flow of events so that every detail is beautifully captured. By working together, you’ll ensure that when the camera clicks, it captures not just the day, but the feeling

BRIDAL AND GROOM WELLNESS

EXPERT ADVICE FROM COACH JAKE MCARTHUR

Feel confident, energised, and proud on your wedding day with real-life fitness and nutrition guidance from one of the UK’s most trusted transformation coaches.

There’s a moment in every wedding journey when the excitement collides with reality. You’re picturing the dress, the suit, the aisle… and then wondering if you’ll feel your absolute best when the big day finally arrives.

It’s not about chasing an impossible standard. It’s about standing tall, energised, and proud. And that, according to leading wedding wellness coach Jake McArthur, comes down to two things: realistic planning and self-respectful choices.

“Looking and feeling your best on your wedding day should never be treated like an optional luxury,” Jake says. “It’s fundamental. Everything — your mood, your confidence, your energy — starts with how you feel in your own skin.”

Jake and his coaching partner George Woolliss specialise in helping brides and grooms feel incredible on their big day — through sustainable fitness, no-fuss nutrition, and mindset support that sticks long after the honeymoon ends.

This is their ultimate guide to doing it right.

WHY WEDDING WELLNESS SHOULDN’T BE A LAST-MINUTE PANIC

It’s easy to let fitness and nutrition slip to the bottom of the to-do list when you’re juggling RSVPs, florists, and finances. But Jake believes it deserves better:

“You spend so much time and money planning a perfect event. Why wouldn’t you invest in how you feel during it?”

And this isn’t about fitting into a smaller dress or losing weight for photos. It’s about the energy to enjoy every second. The clarity to be present. The confidence to walk in front of a crowd feeling proud. George puts it perfectly:

“Weddings are emotional. And when people feel good physically, they’re calmer, more grounded, and genuinely happier. That’s what we care about. It’s not a better body, it’s a better you.”

THE FITNESS PLAN: MOVEMENT THAT FITS YOUR LIFE

Let’s be honest: most wedding fitness plans are unrealistic. They demand daily workouts, strict routines, and hours you simply don’t have. Jake’s approach is refreshingly practical.

“Three workouts a week. That’s what we ask for. Upper body, lower body, core and cardio. Done right, that’s enough to look stronger, leaner, and in a better shape.”

You don’t need a gym membership. Bodyweight exercises, a pair of dumbbells, and a mat are more than enough.

What matters most? Consistency.

“We don’t need you to do more. We need you to do what you said you would. That’s how results happen,” says Jake.

George works with grooms who are often new to fitness or juggling busy careers and family life.

“We meet you where you are. If you’ve only got 45 minutes three times a week — we make those 45 minutes count.”

THE NUTRITION SHIFT: FUEL YOUR BODY, DON’T PUNISH IT

Forget bland salads and starvation plans. Jake’s philosophy around nutrition is based on awareness, not restriction.

“The reason most people struggle is that they’re either eating too much — without realising it — or they’re eating the wrong things for how they want to feel.”

He encourages couples to track their intake using simple apps like MyFitnessPal. Not obsessively — just enough to build awareness of what’s going on.

“We’re not telling you never to have wine or cake,” Jake clarifies. “But you do need to know how those things affect your goals. And make your choices from there.”

Simple steps with big impact:

• Prioritise lean protein (chicken, fish, fish and protein shakes)

• Eat more fruit and veg and cut out what you know to be junk

• Stay hydrated — especially in the final weeks

And yes, the night before the wedding matters.

“You don’t want to wake up bloated or tired,” Jake warns. “Keep it light, familiar, and nourishing. Grilled chicken, steamed veg, fruit. Avoid anything that’s ever upset your stomach.”

In the morning itself?

“Fruit is perfect. Light, hydrating, and it won’t sit heavy in your gut while the nerves kick in.”

MOTIVATION VS. MINDSET: THE SECRET INGREDIENT

Jake and George both agree: motivation is overrated. What you need is discipline and the right mindset — something they focus on heavily in their coaching.

“People don’t fail because they don’t want it. They fail because they don’t have the tools or accountability to stick with it,” Jake explains.

George says the wedding deadline actually helps:

“It’s a date you can’t move. That creates clarity. But we help couples use that deadline to create momentum, not pressure.”

The result? A habit, not a phase. A mindset that says: this isn’t a diet. This is how I take care of myself.

REAL RESULTS FROM REAL COUPLES

Some of Jake and George’s proudest transformations aren’t just visible — they’re emotional.

Take Josh and El, who trained for their Greek island wedding.

“Josh had tried every diet under the sun. When he came to us, we stripped it back to the basics. He dropped 16kg, built lean muscle, and gained confidence he’d never had,” says George. “El looked stunning too. But more importantly, they were glowing. You could see how proud they were of each other.”

Then there’s Paul and Sonia Tomlinson — “They looked spectacular on the day — but what really stuck with me was how happy they were. They weren’t stressed. They weren’t tired. They were just in their element,” George recalls. “And they’re still training now, still building on it. That’s the point.”

WHAT IF YOU’RE ON A TIGHT BUDGET?

The good news? You can absolutely make progress without spending a fortune.

“Tracking your food? Free. Walking every day? Free. Training at home with your own body? Free,” says Jake. “You don’t need a fancy gym membership. But what you do need is commitment.”

Of course, coaching helps — and Jake’s programme is priced to be affordable for couples who want structure and accountability without financial strain.

“We keep it at a point where it’s enough that you won’t want to waste it, but not so much that it causes stress,” he explains. “People pay to commit. That’s often the breakthrough.”

AFTER THE WEDDING: THE REAL TRANSFORMATION

Too many couples fall into a slump post-wedding — but Jake’s clients don’t.

“We book a redirection call after the honeymoon. That’s when we set new goals, adjust routines, and help them turn the wedding progress into a lifelong habit,” he says.

George adds: “Why would you want to feel amazing for one day — and then let it all slip away? The confidence you build can carry you through marriage, parenthood, career… all of it.”

FINAL THOUGHT: YOU DESERVE TO FEEL INCREDIBLE

Looking after your health — your real, honest, everyday wellbeing — should never be an afterthought. It should be an act of self-respect.

As Jake puts it:

“People don’t regret putting the effort in. They regret the opposite. And when you walk down that aisle, you deserve to feel like the best version of yourself — not because anyone told you to, but because you did it for you.”
