It’s National Nutrition month and in honor of highlighting what makes nutrition so important for our health, we are breaking down the most important tips.
Here are some top nutrition tips from me and other nutrition professionals to optimize your health:
Hydration is key to digestion, energy levels, and skin health. I recommend a minimum of at least 8 glasses a day with an added squeeze of fresh lemon or lime. This adds electrolytes to the water, ensuring it enters the cell. Enhanced hydration is first because this is what improves your later nutrient absorption. If you have access to spring water in glass, even better!
Having healthy meals and snacks readily available makes it easier to avoid temptation and stick to your goals. Spend one day a week batch cooking and portioning meals for the days ahead, saving time and ensuring you have nutritious options on hand. This also saves you money in the long run!

While everyone is focused on protein, most Americans are actually deficient in fiber, not protein! While protein is important, fiber is the foundation to improve digestion, control blood sugar, and keep you feeling full longer. Add fiber-rich foods like chia seeds, flaxseeds, leafy greens, fresh organic fruits, and oats to your meals.
Carbs are an essential energy source, but the wrong ones (like refined sugars and white bread) can cause spikes and crashes. Opt for complex carbs like sweet potatoes, quinoa, and whole grains, which are nutrient-dense and provide steady energy. Our brains require glucose to function properly day to day.
Mindful eating helps you tune into hunger cues and prevents overeating. Simply slowing down allows you to fully digest your food more properly. Often, we rush and barely chew our food, causing more work for our digestive system. Focus on eating slowly, avoiding distractions (like phones or TV), and pausing between bites to check if you’re still hungry.

Dalo’s artistic journey began at a young age, much like many creatives, but life’s demands momentarily pulled him away. In 2020, while living in Seattle, he rekindled his passion for painting as a hobby after work. By April 2021, he launched his Instagram page, and Art by Dalo was officially born—what started as a personal project quickly gained momentum.
His inspirations stem from a mix of childhood cartoons, graffiti, and pop culture influences, all woven together with personal experiences and life’s trials. A defining moment in his career came when someone recognized his talent and commissioned his first two paintings in 2021. That sale validated his artistic voice and propelled him forward.
Dalo’s creative process is instinctual rather than structured. He thrives on spontaneity, allowing inspiration to strike in the moment. Whether working on a commissioned mural or a canvas piece, he often holds a broad vision in his mind, letting his emotions guide the final product. Each creation is deeply personal, infused with his heart and soul, leading him to turn down projects that don’t align with his artistic integrity.
New York City has played an enormous role in shaping Dalo’s artistic identity. Growing up in Brooklyn and later moving to Staten Island, he found inspiration in the city’s street art, graffiti, landmarks, and even its raw, gritty energy. The NY and NJ art scenes have provided him with a network of fellow creatives who have influenced his artistic evolution. Having displayed, sold, and painted murals throughout the tri-state area, he has left his artistic mark across both regions, particularly in Staten Island, which he considers home.
Turning a passion into a business at 35 was both a leap of faith and a testament to Dalo’s determination. He firmly believes that his life’s experiences led him to this point, and despite the inevitable self-doubt that plagues many artists, he remains steadfast in his journey. His motto is simple: keep pushing forward, as doubts may come and go, but perseverance is key.
His portfolio is as diverse as his influences— he has painted everything from food trucks and restaurant interiors to school murals
and private commissions across the globe, with works reaching as far as Australia. Every project holds a special place in his heart, each one teaching him invaluable lessons along the way.
For Dalo, the most rewarding aspect of his work is the feedback he receives from those who encounter his murals and artwork. His goal is to spread positivity and inspiration through his creations. When asked about a dream mural location, he envisions covering an entire exterior of a building in Brooklyn or Manhattan, ensuring his work reaches as many people as possible.
Dalo sees his future filled with travel, painting murals worldwide, and inspiring the next generation of artists. His ultimate message is clear— anything is possible with positivity and commitment.
When it comes to dream projects, Dalo hopes to one day create album artwork for one of his favorite musicians, merging his passion for music and art in an iconic collaboration.

Maria’s journey began right out of college when she landed a role as a medical device hardware representative for Arthrex. “Items that were perfectly usable were being discarded,” Maria recalls. “I started taking these items home and before long, I realized this was a problem I wanted to solve.”
Her entrepreneurial spirit, influenced by her father’s drive to create and lead, further solidified her vision. Encouraged by friends and family who admired her innovative idea, Maria took a leap of faith, transforming her passion into a tangible solution: RepSource.
At its core, RepSource is an innovative healthcare sustainability company committed to recycling surplus medical supplies. By placing bins directly in operating rooms, RepSource collects and repurposes medical supplies, reselling them to bioskills labs and repurposing items for new uses within the healthcare system.
What sets RepSource apart is its comprehensive 360-degree approach. Unlike organizations that focus solely on donations, RepSource blends recycling, manufacturing, and repurposing medical supplies to create a sustainable and practical system for hospitals nationwide.
Maria reflects on the significance of her mission: “The RepSource method isn’t just for NY and NJ hospitals; this is a nationwide issue. My goal is to implement this in every hospital system across the country.”
A significant milestone for the company came with the approval to launch at NYU. While initial skepticism about the waste quantities existed, RepSource proved its worth almost immediately. Within 24 hours, NYU’s team saw just how impactful the initiative could be.
As a young woman in business, Maria faced her fair share of challenges. Earning the trust of industry leaders wasn’t always easy. “It’s about getting the right people to listen to you,” she says. “But I’ve learned to be persistent and confident in what I’m doing, and that has made all the difference.”
Maria’s leadership philosophy is rooted in fairness, efficiency, and kindness. She believes in delegating wisely, making tough decisions for the greater good, and building genuine connections with everyone she encounters. “Efficiency in leadership is important, but kindness has taken me far,” she shares.
RepSource isn’t just about sustainability—it’s about people. Maria makes it a priority to give back to the hospital staff who are instrumental in the initiative’s success. At NYU, for example, staff members promoting sustainability are entered into raffles for gift cards as a token of appreciation.
“They work long, hard hours and are on the front lines of this initiative,” Maria says. “Without them, RepSource wouldn’t be what it is today.”
Maria also hopes to extend her community engagement efforts further, with dreams of creating an annual donation fund to benefit underserved communities in New York and New Jersey.
Maria’s advice for aspiring female entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful: “Keep going. Even in the face of failure, find a new path. Don’t give up.” She believes in rejecting stereotypes and focusing on hard work and determination.
“While some might see being a woman in business as a disadvantage, I’ve never viewed it that way. I grew up surrounded by good men who encouraged me to succeed, and I’ve always believed you only get out of it what you put into it.”

“We inspect every quarry that we work with,” Lyndsey Belle Tyler states. “Part of the issue with the stone business is it’s very much undercover[...]what happens in quarries is not highly visible. These “architecturally forward pieces” provide an unlikely frame around the hearth, offering up points of conversation and insight for introspection. “Each name has to deal with mental states,” Lyndsey Belle Tyler points out, with Altared States pieces aptly named “Shell Shock,”
“Piece of Mind,” and “Circular Reasoning,” among others. The varying designs correspond to their names and will serve as a focal point for the center of a home when the Altared States collaboration goes live this spring.
While interior design is a large portion of ABC Stone’s speciality, their exterior line is another area of expertise. As Lyndsey Belle Tyler describes, “the vast majority of stone distributors don’t specialize in robust exterior stone resources,” while ABC Stone does. Being based in the Northeast presents advantages and challenges with the freezethaw cycle, but because they complete projects all around the world, ABC Stone “is very aware of where the install is going to happen.” The company is poised to tackle any exterior design challenges head-on and particularly loves providing materials for indoor/outdoor living. “As a collective, we all determined outdoor space has grown a lot as a category,” Belle Tyler says, “and we are always bringing in new, unique materials you couldn’t source elsewhere.”

With an early start learning to play the piano at age four, New Jersey’s up-and-coming music entertainer NGXB and his infectious talent have amassed over a million fans across social media. A pianist/entertainer, arranger, and content creator who possesses a personality that cannot be accurately depicted by words on a page, it is easy to see what makes the Garden State native the next big thing in musical entertainment.
NGXB—a stage name that is an acronym of his full name, Nicholas George Xavier Blum— began his musical journey by studying piano under his father, George. Over the years, NGXB continued to learn under several other piano teachers, including his professors at the nowdefunct University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
However, his professors aren’t the only ones who have inspired his creative genius, as classical composers have additionally helped fine-tune his niche.
“My favorite composer of all time is Franz Liszt,” NGXB explained. “Combining his showmanship with his virtuosic playing style, he was considered the very first ‘rockstar.’ I am heavily inspired by his playing style, which is why I make my arrangements very involved.”
And very involved they are. Perusing NGXB’s TikTok account (@NGXB) shows complex and enthusiastic arrangements of songs such as Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” and even “Round and Round” by Jeong Geun and Dr. Lee Soo-In
(popularly dubbed the “Mingle Song”) and featured in the popular Netflix original series, Squid Games. These songs, combined with his electric stage performances, make one wonder how he can maintain his piano endurance.
“I’ve come to discover that traveling and being away from the piano for a handful of days immediately recharges me,” NGXB said, elaborating that it’s no easy feat to keep the energy constantly high. “I’m very fortunate that my career grants me the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world. When I get those opportunities where I have a mini vacation with work involved, that’s perfect.”
There aren’t many piano entertainers with a similar éclat as NGXB, causing him to contrast against an otherwise saturated music market. “It took me a while to accept the kind of entertainer I am,” he said. “Being unique is a double-edged sword and understanding that my style of playing varies based on the vibe of my audience, I am very good at reading the room, which is important. I learned quickly which venues I would succeed at being myself, which is a showman, versus the ones that want background music.” He clarified that he particularly thrives while performing at country clubs, private and corporate establishments, high-end active adult communities, house parties, and the like.
“In those spots,” he continued, “I am able to really let loose, and people appreciate who I am not just as an artist, but as a person.”
And performing for NGXB isn’t simply a side gig—literally. “A lot of people who meet me for the first time, and don’t know exactly what makes me unique, often ask me if I have a ‘day job’ or if I perform in a band or accompany a singer,” NGXB said. Since graduating in 2020, he’s had the opportunity to make his entire living doing gigs where the main act is himself, if not a complete solo performance. “During the day, every day, I plan new opportunities for myself for the future.”
One of those plans includes an act where NGXB is accompanied by a variety of other musicians—such as a drummer, violinist, and cellist—transforming his usual one-man show into something akin to a concerto. “This has been a huge undertaking, and while I am already booking this act for events throughout 2025,” he explained, “this is all leading into a classical-rock crossover show that’ll be premiered in the near future.” Future plans for NGXB include an electrifying solo show that seamlessly blends his signature comedic flair with masterful piano performances, all tied together by his iconic tagline, “Pianist With a Personality.”
“As an entertainer, your hope is to take people’s minds off their everyday struggles and put them in a place of enjoyment, even if it’s for an hour or two,” NGXB said. “I genuinely enjoy being an entertainer, whether I do it through music, my personality, content, etc. Making a living at this is the cherry on top. It can get very frustrating the amount of time you have to spend honing your craft, and making something that is typically a hobby into a career. I have very limited downtime, but I’ve learned to enjoy those moments as much as I can now. At the end of the day, it’s well worth it.”
