“ACTION SPACE” 2018 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York This design consists of volumes formed by narrow, wrapping planes to create both programs and different sensations of space.

Drawing from Muccia Prada’s mantra “less is more”, the project creates several distinct linear spaces with a clear formal logic that are layered together to produce secondary spaces and circulation. The project shifts orientation from one side of an existing wall that divides the site to the other, resulting in perpendicular motion between vertical circulation and horizontal, linear program spaces.

“GROUND CONTROL” 2018 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York The site was designed for twin brothers, a painter and a plant collector. They have a close relationship. The whole structure is composed of ribbons that wrap around to create spaces and programs. These ribbons allow the introduction of the living spaces for both brothers and the working space for the painter.

Then, there are spaces carved out within the site that create courtyards that are shaped by the placement of the ribbons. These courtyards define the limit for the collector to plant his trees.

Everson Urban Event Site + Pavilion. This design works as an intervention for a specific public activity located on the grounds of the Everson Museum. The pavilion works as an isolated space in two ways. First, the pavilion as a whole, a massive concrete building, isolated from the rest of the plaza. Then, and each separate room within the building is isolated from one another; however, they all have an accessed view to the Everson Museum where movies are sometimes projected for the public. These rooms are connected by the primary circulation system which is located in the back.

This architectural intervention, a Special Collections Library, is located in a dense urban environment, next to The High Line (NYC). The design focuses on a rough concrete texture on the exterior while it appears as a massive solid structure. In the meantime, the plan follows the diagonal directionality which is guided by the “carvings” that come from the roof. The “carved” spaces can be used as terraces, which can be accessed from different rooms. In this building, artists would be able to display different art media, such as paintings and sculptures. At the same time, there is an auditorium in which artists can come give talks to those interested in their work.

“BLENDING WITH NATURE” 2019 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York

This design focuses on the use of diagrid columns as the tectonic system of the building. These columns allow for a free-open plan while holding its main circulation system within them. This building serves as a space to showcase an art exhibition and as an event space for the School of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) at the edge of the Syracuse University campus.

The openness of the building, allowed by the glass facade, invites students to come in and participate in a different experience from what is around them.

“CULINARY MAKER SPACE” 2019 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York

After doing research, it was clear that the Brooklyn Tech-Triangle and Cultural District lack facilities such as culinary institutes. This Design aims to produce a culinary kitchen space to educate and expose the community on different food cultures. Meals cooked by apprentices would be provided to the public.

Learners with higher cooking skills would cook by the auditorium area, and people who come eat can see how these dishes are prepared while getting some learning experience out of it as well. Also, people from all social classes would be welcomed to come because of how diverse NYC is. At the same time, given that there is a high amount of food waste in NYC, if there are still leftovers, these will be distributed to people in need, creating a sense of caring for the community.

“THE FLOATING BOX” 2019 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York

The project is located on the south side of Onondaga Lake, Syracuse, and consists of 2 elements. The massive surface functions as both a cultural center in the inside and an amphitheater on the outside, which is held up by a steel beam structure. The floating glass box, which partially sits on top of the massive surface, is the main meeting room, and it is held up by a wood structure. This glass box will particularly catch people’s attention at night, when it lights up its surroundings.

“CUT & FILL” 2020 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York

Pessegueiro Island, an island characterized for its rocky surface, lies next to the coast of Porto Covo.

This design intervention proposes two aspects: carving out stone from parts of theisland to create spaces while adding “stone” (concrete) within this retreat/hotel center. These two stone blocks come from one being shifted and placed parallel to each other. There are carvings on both of these stones that allow natural light to come in the spaces. The illumination would constantly change depending on the time of the day, creating different experiences in the rooms. At the same time, these proposed spaces would allow people to interact with the existing environment and do a series of activities around the island. The easter edge serves as a threshold while also dealing with human and fauna occupation. The western edge focuses on human occupation and deals with the existing flora and fauna of the island.

“TOMB OF WORDS” 2020 Syracuse University Syracuse, New York

This is a tomb and a memorial dedicated to Jovita Idar, a Mexican-American civil rights activists from the early 1900s. One can see this as a linear garden that invites people to learn about Jovita’s journey, as well as the struggles that Jovita and other Mexicans went through during the Mexican-American war.

The project sits on the National Mall, Washington, DC, and it extends along the reflecting pool.

There is a 2 component experience. The first one, a wall, which is made out of Jovita’s newspaper’s printing press letters. The wall represents the division and duality, or the inequality and injustices that Mexican Americans and Mexican Immigrants face, even up to this day. The wall cuts into the ground, creating a linear and narrow space for people to go underground. When being underground, one can see 8 openings on the wall that are parallel to the carvings on the ground wall. These allow people to read Jovita’s words, and parallel to these would be specific artifacts that help narrate Jovita’s writing.

The second component, the garden, is defined by the Mexican sycamore trees and the wall that cuts into the ground. Here, people could peak into the underground space, creating a sense of wonder and intrigue to those around.

“URBAN FLOW” 2021 Syracuse University Florence, Italy - Study Abroad Program

The project re-envisions the waterfront of the city of Orbetello in a more interactive and connective manner to the urban fabric. The city of Orbetello faces inward to its city center rather than taking advantage of its beautiful coastline. The project seeks to break the pre-existing division of space that separates the urban from the water by the introduction of an immersive public site that simultaneously cleans polluted the lagoon. The Orbetello Lagoon faces a crisis of eutrophication as a result of chemical discharge from fish farms and urban growth, resulting in extensive algae growth in the lagoon. The project introduces a filtration system that cleans and extends the water throughout the site through its gradual process of filtration. The water traverses the site through a continuous pipeline network system that interacts with the three main programs implemented; a public library, 3 research laboratories, and a museum. This attempts in resolving the two main issues in Orbetello, that of the urban fabric, and that of pollution in the lagoon.
