LEARNING ELEVATED
TEN BOLD INITIATIVES FOR A DECADE 2024-2034 STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVES

OUR GUIDING STATEMENTS
VISION
Educating and elevating humans for good.
MISSION
We inspire tomorrow’s ethical leaders by developing character, seeking knowledge, and building a community of lifelong learners from the heart of the Colorado mountains to the world beyond.
VALUES
Character | We practice kindness, develop moral courage, cultivate selfdiscipline, and seek individual purpose that connects us to the greater good. We speak with honesty, express respect for self and others, act with humility, and embrace differing perspectives to engage with the world and lead with integrity.
Knowledge | We challenge with high expectations and nurture with support, meeting learners where they are and taking them further than they think possible. We foster joy and intellectual curiosity in acquiring knowledge, stimulating creativity, and creating a lifetime love of learning. We pursue meaningful questions and instill concrete competencies, habits, and knowledge that learners transfer to the real world.
Community | We are an inclusive community of students, teachers, parents, alumni, and local partners rooted in a culture of trust and a deep sense of belonging. We grow through collaboration, cross-age interactions, and a commitment to service and experiences that encourage us to see the world through a lens of empathy, respect, and appreciation of others.
Leadership | We feel authentic responsibility to ourselves and our community. We understand our role as citizens to act for the greater good and seek solutions for a complex world through learning, reflecting, and ethical decision making.
Environment | We venture into our mountains and valleys to discover a sense of place in the natural world. We learn to love our environment and reflect on our role within it so we can be responsible stewards for future generations.

INNOVATE & ENHANCE
Emerge as a Leading Experiential Learning Destination | Build on our foundation of academic excellence, ethical leadership, and environmental stewardship in order to become the leading K-12 experiential learning destination in the Intermountain West.
Elevate Academic Excellence | Ensure our academic program, schoolwide learning environment, and teacher professional development opportunities are all aligned in order to maximize individual student growth.
Aspire to a National and Global Reach | Develop a mission-focused strategy to attract families from across the nation and around the globe to Vail Mountain School for an education that uniquely combines challenging academics, experiential learning, and unparalleled access to the mountains.

IMPACT & AMPLIFY
Amplify Community Impact | Enhance our existing programs and develop new ones that benefit both the wider community and our students by maximizing our location and strengthening opportunities for civic engagement and service.
Enhance Transportation Systems | Align internal and regional transportation solutions to remove geographical access barriers, increase the diversities represented within our school community, and model environmental stewardship.
Broaden Local Reach | Explore opportunities and additional locations to expand the age levels served by a Vail Mountain School education, reflecting the needs of our diverse local community.

INVEST & STEWARD
Clarify Our Identity | Communicate and advance our refined mission, vision, values, and brand.
Improve Financial Accessibility | Implement a new tuition framework to reduce financial barriers and promote financial transparency for all current and future families.
Recruit, Develop, and Retain Top Talent | Enrich compensation and housing opportunities for faculty and staff in order to promote stable and secure living arrangements, allowing our professionals to thrive as educators.
Launch a Comprehensive Fundraising Campaign | Raise the capital necessary to fund our strategic plan initiatives and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of Vail Mountain School.
