GRACE BAY CLUB 30 YEARS AGO TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS FIRST LUXURY RESORT

In 2001, following a tip from developer John Fair, a thirty something Mark Durliat lead them to the picturesque Turks & Caicos Islands. The two were seeking the ideal Caribbean resort development project and had previously ventured to nearly a dozen other locations. Within months of landing in the TCI, Mark had convinced the owner Klaus Kreis, who had built the original 22 room hotel, to sell the unique gem to them. With Durliat stepping into the lead role on the ground, he and Fair forged a partnership of high net worth partners and over the next 7 years crafted and developed two phases of residential expansion that forever changed Providenciales.

In 2004, award winning hotelier Nikheel Advani joined the endeavor, and helped the two craft a luxury hospitality mindset in the growing local team. By 2008, Durliat & Advani had assumed full management of the property and the Grace Bay Resorts vision began to take shape. Over the next 15 years they assembled a team of exceptional hospitality leaders and a collection of remarkable resort properties and private villas that you will now read about in this elegant book before you. Invaluable Partnerships

The storied ownership of Grace Bay Club and the birth of Grace Bay Resorts began in 2001 when the developers launche a plan to build a partnership of highly successful, passionate family offices to join in the acquisition of the resort. As it happens, a well-known, successful Philadelphia businessman Richard Green of Philadelphia was staying at Grace Bay Club at the time. Shortly thereafter, after a fortuitous meeting in the Turks & Caicos with Joe & Carole Ayres, a prominent and successful couple from Knoxville, Tennessee, the group then welcomed the final partner in the Durliat family from Colorado. With a profound passion for the people of Turks & Caicos and a vision to transform Grace Bay Club into a world-class hospitality organization, the influential families of Richard Green, Joe Ayres, and Durliat have been the driving force behind the resort’s investment and strategic direction for over 21 years.

Through two phases of residential expansion, creating in excess of $250 million in real estate value and impressive team growth from forty team members to nearly eight hundred Growing revenues from $4 million in 2001 to over $100 million in 2023, these partners and their families have provided the financial foundation of Grace Bay Resorts and its continued growth; in the process, the brand continues to expand to its already established world-renown luxury properties that include Grace Bay Club, Rock House, Point Grace, West Bay Club, the Private Villa Collection, and Southbank. Additionally, their philanthropic efforts have positively impacted numerous charity and social initiatives in the Turks & Caicos, while their resilience has seen them weather multiple hurricanes, the Covid pandemic, and six changes in local government. The Rock Iguana is a species of lizard commonly found in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Rock Iguana inhabits small cays. Approximately 2,000 iguanas are the only land creatures that inhabit Little Water Cay!
