Origine: Stati Uniti orientali, America centrale Caratteristiche botaniche: Grande albero deciduo, leggero ed elegante, a crescita medio-rapida, in natura può raggiungere i 45m. di altezza. Chioma ampiamente conica, con rami disposti a verticillo su piani, ramificato dalla base. Corteccia grigio-bruna molto corrugata, i giovani rami sono spesso provvisti di ali sugherose. Foglie palmate con 5-7 lobi acuminati e margini finemente dentati, simili alle foglie dell’acero, di colore verde scuro e lucide sopra, verde chiaro sotto. In autunno assume una splendida colorazione dall’arancio al rosso. Pianta monoica con fiori maschili e femminili separati ma sulla stessa pianta, poco appariscenti.
