Le infiorescenze femminili danno luogo a infruttescenze amentiformi lunghe da 30 a 50 cm. costituite da nucule provviste di 1 ala verde di circa 2 cm. Caratteristiche agronomico-ambientali: Coltivare in terreno profondo, fertile e umido ma ben drenato. Origine: Europa meridionale, Asia Caratteristiche botaniche: Arbusto sempreverde, con portamento eretto, molto ramificato, con rami molto spinosi. Foglie piccole, ovato-lanceolate, con margine intero o finemente dentellato verso l’apice, di un bel colore verde scuro lucido. A fine primavera inizio estate splendida e abbondantissima fioritura bianca di piccoli fiori riuniti in corimbi. Seguono in autunno numerosissimi grappoli di bacche rosse, persistenti, molto decorative Caratteristiche agronomico-ambientali: Indigeno sull’Italia Peninsulare e Liguria in boschi sempreverdi, siepi. Origine: Bacino mediterraneo Caratteristiche botaniche: Grande e maestoso albero sempreverde, acrescita lenta, molto longevo, raggiunge i 25 metri di altezza. Tronco corto, possente, chioma ampia e globosa molto fitta. Corteccia liscia e grigia in età giovanile poi più scura si fessura in piccole scaglie. Foglie da ovate a lanceolate con caratteristico polimorfismo del margine da intero a dentato a pungente. Le foglie sono coriacee, verde scuro e lucide sulla pagina superiore, bianco-grigio e tomentose sotto. Pianta monoica con infiorescenze maschili, in amenti gialli, e femminili, insignificanti, sulla stessa pianta a giugno. Frutti: ghiande ovoidali con cupola squamosa Caratteristiche agronomico-ambientali: Tipico costituente della macchia mediterranea, su boschi aridi con preferenza per terreni acidi. Origine: Asia nord-orientale Caratteristiche botaniche: Arbusto a foglia caduca, di medie dimensioni, a crescita vigorosa, con fusti robusti, molto spinosi e setolosi. Foglie composte da 5-9 foglioline oblunghe, verde scuro, con evidenti nervature, rugose, glauche e lanuginose sulla pagina inferiore.
