News Heidelberg Engineering Spectralis with Shift technology is now available for sale in EU markets. It is the first commercially available optical coherence tomographer (OCT) that allows clinicians to switch between 20, 85 and 125 kHz A-scan rates to find the ideal balance of image quality and clinical workflow. “We are excited to offer this innovative approach to optimising the performance of SpectralisS for each individual patient,” said Krysten Williams, head of global marketing and education at Heidelberg Engineering. “Shift technology is a new addition to the core DNA that is built into every Spectralis. We want to empower clinicians to strike a balance between workflow efficiency and image quality at the point of care,” added Krysten. Shift technology, available for third generation Spectralis devices, is based on the latest Spectralis features including a more powerful OCT engine, updated graphics processing technology and a software redesign. With the latest software comes the electronic instructions for use (eIFU) as the new standard.

Millmead Optical Group This year marks the centenary of Winston Churchill’s purchase of Chartwell Manor, his country residence in Kent. Following its purchase in September 1922, Churchill lived there until his death in 1965 and reportedly enjoyed some of his happiest memories at the property. In commemoration of Churchill’s contribution to British culture and identity, Walter & Herbert has produced a limited-edition range called the Chartwell. The one-off creation is based on the exact same design, specification and colour scheme as Churchill’s original glasses, right down to the elongated temples and the different numbers of dots on their tips. This was said to have helped the then prime minister determine which pair were for reading and which pair were for speeches. One-hundred pieces have been produced, and more details can be found at walterandherbert.com
