We’re proud to spotlight our area’s Top Docs and standout healthcare providers who are making an impact through dedication, expertise, and compassionate care.

One such individual is Dr. Elizabeth Minto, a true SuperMom. She hopes her daughter sees in both her parents a model of service and balance. We loved getting to know Elizabeth and the other individuals and organizations featured in this issue—we know you will too.

Also inside is a look at 351 Kirkman Lane, a mid-century gem in Fairhope’s Fruit & Nut District, plus photos from memorable events like the Masquerade Ball for Anchor Cross Cancer Foundation.

FRIDAY

LUCKIE Heart of the Mission...

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Lexi Luckie has always been drawn to connection between people, causes, and community. Now the Development Director at Victory Health Partners, she channels that lifelong love of Mobile’s spirit into serving those most in need of care.

For 23 years, Victory Health Partners has demonstrated the power of a united community. Every dollar donated provides $70 worth of care, and more than 45,000 patients have been served. In 2024 alone, $8.1 million in free name-brand medications were dispensed. This mission is powered by the people, for the people, solving a community problem together.

“What I love most about this area is the incredible sense of community,” she says. “You feel it in every handshake, every event, every neighbor’s wave. People truly show up for one another.”

Strength of the Community.

Lexi brings that same warmth and energy into both her work and her home. She’s a mom to two little ones under the age of two, a lively almost two-year-old and a sweet four-month-old. and she is married to her high school best friend. “Life is a whirlwind,” she laughs, “but it’s filled with so much love.”

Balancing motherhood with a demanding role in nonprofit development isn’t always easy, but Lexi thrives on purpose. As someone living with cystic fibrosis, she knows the stakes of accessible care firsthand. That personal experience fuels her advocacy. “Victory Health Partners has become more than a job. It’s a calling,” she says. “We’re providing Christ-centered, compassionate care to people who often feel forgotten. That’s what keeps me going.”

One story that sticks with her came during Victory’s annual Hope for Healing Celebration. A patient shared how the clinic changed their life, not just medically, but emotionally. “They found hope again,” Lexi says. “That moment reminded me that behind every number and fundraising goal is a person whose life has been touched.”

Lexi is also a member of the Mobile Rotary Club, Junior League of Mobile, and an active volunteer with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Men of St. Joseph Outback retreat. “Serving alongside people who care deeply about this community makes the work even more meaningful,” she says.

Looking ahead, Lexi sees growth on the horizon for Victory, particularly in mental health services. “Our mission is evolving,” she says. “We’re expanding to meet emotional and spiritual needs too, partnering with others to offer comprehensive care.”

Her advice to those interested in nonprofit work. “Stay passionate, stay peoplefocused, and remember that even small actions can lead to lasting change.”

ParentNight

The St. Ignatius Impalas kicked off the school year with a lively Parent Night, during which they met their children’s teachers for the year ahead, mingled with fellow parents, and learned about ways to support the school through fundraisers, including the muchanticipated Loyola Art Show.

Your skin Deserves the best

Heather Ramey Haley, MD

Board-Certified Dermatologist

When Dr. Haley opened her Fairhope practice 21 years ago, her goal was to provide a local, full-service skin care alternative to driving to Mobile. Soon, patients from across the region — Mobile, New Orleans, Montgomery, and beyond — were coming to see her and her team. Over the years, she built a group of exceptional PAs, NPs, estheticians, and nurses who make Haley Dermatology what it is today. After more than two decades, she treasures moments that come full circle — like treating former teen acne patients who now bring their own children for care, These connections are the most rewarding part of her work.

Bonnie Hodge, MD

Board-Certified Dermatologist

Dr. Hodge finds great reward in guiding patients toward answers or diagnoses they’ve sought for years. She has a special interest in complex medical dermatology and is committed to providing thorough, compassionate care. Outside the clinic, she enjoys life with her husband—also a physician—and their energetic two-year-old son. Passionate about healthy cooking, cycling, and the outdoors, she values both the challenges of her profession and the joys of family and active living.

WE ARE EXCITED TO WELCOME DR. ERAN GWILLIM

Board-Certified Dermatologist

Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon

Dr. Gwillim first trained in general surgery before pursuing his true passion— dermatology. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the renowned Scripps Clinic in California, honing his expertise in the precise removal and reconstruction of skin cancers.

Dr. Gwillim is excited to now call Fairhope home alongside his wife, Lillian. Outside of the clinic, you might find them exploring new travel destinations, enjoying the outdoors, or doting on their beloved pets.

In his practice, Dr. Gwillim focuses on skin cancer removal and repair, finding deep satisfaction in helping patients through every step—from diagnosis to a successful, restorative outcome. “Seeing a patient leave with both a healthy result and a smile is the best part of my job,” he says. Now in

DR. MICHAEL J. BINDON

What influenced your decision to specialize in emergency medicine?

I get a special opportunity to be a friendly face for people of all walks of life on what is usually one of their worst days. The fast pace and variety of medical issues helps keep any day from becoming routine. I also enjoy the camaraderie and teamwork that occurs in a well-running emergency department or urgent care.

DR. J.C. JACOBS V

What advice would you give to aspiring healthcare professionals?

I tell young people that are considering medicine that there are easier and faster ways to make money, but if you are willing to endure the years of training, it can be a very satisfying career. It will not only provide for your family, but it is also something of which you can be very proud. I tell them that it isn't always the smartest student who succeeds, but the one who is willing to put in the work.

DR. TREY SIMMS

Please share a defining moment in your career.

The worried family of a young girl with special needs brought her in because she wasn’t using her arm, and they didn’t know why. After a quick maneuver to treat her dislocated elbow, she was back to normal. The relief that spread across the faces of the family after she started using her arm again was incredibly satisfying for me. It really felt like I had done something to make their lives better.

The care you and your family need… when you need it most.

DR. ALAN J. BABCOCK

What comment from a patient has touched you the most.

“You caught this”. When someone presents with something that is seemingly minor, but some detail leads down a path of a concerning diagnosis that was caught early, treated, and now healed. It is incredibly humbling that patients remember you, though you played a very small role in their treatment and keeps you vigilant.

DR. T. CHAD VANDERHEYDEN

Tell us a little about your practice. You will be taken care of by one of our board-certified physicians. They are passionate about urgent patient care and staying up to date on the ever-changing field of medicine. You can feel confident coming to Urgent Care by the Bay for your medical needs.

68 YEARS OF EMPOWERING

Distinguished Young Women, the nation’s oldest and largest scholarship program for high school girls, recently celebrated its 68th year in Mobile, Alabama. Young women from 49 states came together in Mobile to compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America 2025. During their nearly two-week stay in the Port City, participants immersed themselves in all that Mobile has to offer, forming lifelong friendships and making lasting memories along the way. Beyond daily rehearsals, the young women dedicated time to giving back to the community, volunteering with organizations like United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile and Fostering Together Gulf Coast.

This year’s participants were evaluated in five key categories: Scholastics, Interview, Talent, Fitness, and Self-Expression. These categories reflect the program’s mission to recognize and develop well-rounded young women who are committed to academic achievement, strong communication skills, and physical well-being.

“This program is about so much more than a title,” said Carole Hegwood, Executive Director of Distinguished Young Women. “It’s about helping young women grow into confident leaders with a sense of purpose and the tools to make a difference in their communities.”

The National Finals served as a culminating celebration of each participant’s journey. It also showcased the program’s lasting impact on young women across the United States. Since its founding in 1958, Distinguished Young Women has awarded more than $120 million in scholarships through local, state, and national programs. Many past participants credit the program with helping them discover their voice, build self-confidence, and pursue their goals with greater purpose.

In addition to scholarship support, Distinguished Young Women offers life-skills workshops designed to prepare participants for success beyond high school. From leadership training to interview preparation and public speaking, these resources equip young women to thrive in college, careers, and community life.

The program also encourages its participants to live by its “Be Your Best Self” message, which promotes positive values including ambition, responsibility, health, and respect. This message is shared year-round through outreach efforts that include school visits, peer mentoring, and community service projects led by local participants.

This year, Mai Chatwood was selected to represent Baldwin County, and Shayla Holloway represented Mobile County. Holloway was named Alabama's Distinguished Young Woman and competed in the finals. Nikita Chincholkar of Oregon took home the medallion, and the coveted title of Distinguished Young Woman this year.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Distinguished Young Women relies on the dedication of volunteers, donors, and community partners to continue its mission. The program’s supporters help make it possible for young women to experience opportunities that shape their futures.

For more information about Distinguished Young Women, including how to participate, volunteer, or support the mission, visit www.distinguishedyw.org.

inside the ingredients

When it comes to your health, small details can add up to a big impact. That's why, at Press & Co., we carefully select every ingredient that goes into your food, from organic produce to grass fed meat and healthy cooking oils.

While we pride ourselves on creating freshtasting and flavorful dishes, our ingredients are more than culinary choices — they are intentionally chosen to support a healthy body, mind and spirit.

Organic where it counts.

We make all of our food, juices and smoothies with organic ingredients where they matter most; especially the "Dirty Dozen" (the 12 most pesticide-heavy fruits and vegetables). Other organic offerings include our roasted coffee, Rishi teas, and Two Brooks Farm organic rice as the base for several of our bowls.

Avocado oil, not seed oils.

We only cook with avocado oil, because it supports heart health and stays stable at high heat.

Bread choices to support your needs. Whether you're gluten-free or a bread enthusiast, we offer varieties to suit your taste. Our fresh sourdough bread is locally sourced and made from all organic flour. ALL of our menu items containing bread can be substituted for gluten-free. We even have a variety of gluten-free bakery options.

Grass fed beef and free range chicken. Our grass fed beef and free range chicken and eggs are ingredients you can feel good about. They offer more nutrients, better digestion, and no antibiotics or chemicals.

Filtered water.

From cooking to coffee to the water we serve in the dining room, all of our water is filtered. Your food and drinks always begin pure, free from chlorine and impurities.

From Pediatrician To Powerhouse Dr. Katrina Skinner

Dr.Katrina Skinner, a board-certified pediatrician and founder of Fairhope Pediatrics, has long believed that caring for children begins with supporting those who care for them. A lifelong resident of Fairhope, Alabama, she returned home to open her practice in 2009 after completing her medical training at the University of Florida Sacred Heart. Today, her office cares for over 5,000 patients, and her influence stretches well beyond the walls of her clinic.

Recognizing a gap in personal and professional development for pediatricians, especially women, Dr. Skinner launched two organizations: Women in Pediatrics and Pediatric CEO. What began as a personal quest for growth quickly evolved into a mission to support others seeking the same. “I was looking for tools to grow not just as a doctor, but as a business leader and thought leader,” she explained. “Those tools didn’t exist within traditional medical education, so I created them.”

Through Women in Pediatrics, Dr. Skinner hosts annual retreats that foster community and connection among female physicians. “So many of us practice in silos,” she said. “We’re constantly giving, constantly caring, and we tend to put ourselves last. This space reminds women that investing in themselves is not indulgent. It’s essential.”

Her second initiative, Pediatric CEO, helps physicians build stronger business foundations. “We’re handed multi-milliondollar practices with no business training,” she said. “Too many physicians assume if they just work hard, the business will run itself. That doesn’t work anymore.” Her goal is to help pediatricians understand operations, marketing, finance, and leadership so they can run sustainable practices that serve both patients and staff.

At the heart of everything Dr. Skinner builds is a commitment to mission-driven leadership. “In our office, we treat every child as if they’re our own,” she said. “That mindset shapes every decision we make.” She’s also learned that the strength of her team hinges on alignment, not just skill. “You can teach someone how to give a shot. You can’t teach them to care deeply about your mission.”

Named to UAB’s inaugural Blazer Fast 40 for her entrepreneurial growth, Dr. Skinner sees the recognition as a reflection of the heart behind her work. “Our goal is to future-proof pediatricians,” she said. “The stronger we are as professionals, the better we can care for children.”

For Dr. Skinner, balance comes not from perfection, but from perspective. “There are seasons for everything,” she said. “Each year, I try to do more of what I love and less of what I don’t. That’s how I stay grounded and keep growing.”

SuperMom Elizabeth Minto, M.D.

As a neurologist with Coastal Medical Group, part of Infirmary Health, Dr. Elizabeth Minto spends her days solving intricate puzzles, connecting complex symptoms to their origins in the brain. But her life’s work extends far beyond the clinic in Fairhope, Alabama, where she sees patients.

“I was drawn to neurology for two reasons,” she explains. “First, I love the challenge of diagnosis. But more importantly, I value the long-term relationships I get to build with my patients over time.”

Every Piece Matters

That same care and intention shape her life outside of work. Minto is a wife, mother, community volunteer, medical educator, and advocate. Her husband Scott, a radiologist, and their daughter Louise, now in 8th grade, are the heartbeat of her world. “We love cooking together, traveling, and watching movies,” she says. “And I’ll never stop doing Elf on the Shelf and an advent calendar at Christmas. Louise may roll her eyes, but I’m all in on the holiday magic!”

Balancing a demanding medical career with motherhood is no small feat. “I have a supportive employer, husband, extended family, and a village of fellow moms,” she shares. “Some days, parenting comes first. Other days, my patients have to. But there’s always room for both.”

Minto’s compassion deepened after a personal scare early in motherhood. When their daughter was just three months old, Scott was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. “Overnight, we went from being the doctors to being the patients,” she says. “It taught me that people facing a diagnosis need empathy, clarity, and reassurance.”

Whether advocating for patients fighting insurance red tape or mentoring medical students, her proudest professional accomplishment, Minto never forgets the human side of medicine. “Teaching keeps you fresh,” she says. “Seeing something through a student’s eyes makes it new all over again.”

She hopes her daughter sees in both her parents a model of service and balance. “Louise hears me on tough calls with patients or colleagues, and I hope she’s learning that helping others always matters.”

When she’s not practicing medicine, Minto is likely volunteering with her daughter through the National Charity League or Stray Love Foundation, working with the National MS Society or Alzheimer’s Association, cooking something delicious, or catching up with her “Mahj Squad” or Maids of Jubilee float sisters.

“I want to lift up all the moms in health care,” she says. “We carry the emotional weight of our patients and the mental load of our households. Supermoms—every one of us.”

A MIDCENTURY WHISPER IN THE

Heart of Fairhope

Tucked in the heart of Fairhope’s beloved Fruit and Nut District, this midcentury home offers timeless style with warm, modern charm. Natural light fills the open floor plan, highlighting marble countertops, antique doors, and thoughtfully curated details throughout. The home features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a cozy den, and a split floor plan that offers privacy and functionality. The primary suite includes a walk-in closet, spa-inspired bath, and an additional sitting room that could serve as a nursery, office, or quiet retreat.

Out back, a private oasis awaits. A screened porch with herringbone brick floors, a fire pit, and an outdoor dining space provide the perfect setting for both everyday relaxation and special gatherings.

Located just minutes from downtown shops, restaurants, and the bay, this home blends convenience with charm. With one HVAC unit replaced in 2023 and another installed in July 2025, it’s ready for comfortable living year-round. This is more than a house. It’s a thoughtfully designed home in one of Fairhope’s most treasured neighborhoods.

For Renee Mashburn, owner of Green Gates in downtown Fairhope, home design is more than a profession. It’s a personal journey. That was especially true at 351 Kirkman Lane, a midcentury modern home purchased by her daughter and son-in-law more than a decade ago. What started as a charming and structurally sound house has evolved into a beautifully updated and thoughtfully designed space.

The renovation included the addition of a luxurious primary suite with a sitting room, a spacious kitchen with dual pantries, an expanded laundry and breakfast area, and a screened porch that offers a peaceful retreat. While the exterior remains modest and true to its era, the interior surprises visitors with its openness. High ceilings, large windows, and multiple gathering spaces make it ideal for entertaining, relaxing, and daily family life.

Furnishing the home with selections from Green Gates was a natural extension of Renee’s vision. The interiors feature natural textures, soft tones, solid wood furniture, vintage accents, and cherished heirloom pieces.

Every room feels warm and inviting, with a sense of ease and authenticity that defines the Green Gates aesthetic.

This home is filled with light, comfort, and calm. It tells a story of enduring style and personal connection, reflecting the idea that a well-designed home should feel both timeless and completely your own.

Courtney Grey +

Courtney Brooke Farni and Greyson Aaron Bethune’s love story began with a college friendship that blossomed into something lasting. The two met during their junior year at Auburn University and dated for five years before Grey proposed at his family’s lake house on Lake Oconee, an already special place for the couple.

"I thought we were going to brunch," Courtney recalls. “Then he asked me to come see his mom’s new patio furniture. As soon as we walked outside, I realized something was up.” With the lake in the background and one of her best friends secretly snapping photos, Grey got down on one knee. "I think he had to ask twice because I was just staring at him in shock," she laughs.

The couple said “I do” at The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, a setting that perfectly matched their vision for a timeless and elegant Southern celebration. Their wedding planner, Sherry Pierce of Studio08, brought that vision to life. Known for her creative eye and seamless coordination, Sherry ensured every detail reflected the couple's style and values.

Courtney wore a stunning Anne Barge gown from the Anne Barge Atelier in Atlanta. The strapless ball gown, named Heart and Soul, featured a sweetheart neckline and a trail of buttons cascading down the back. The color palette of white and sage green set the tone for an airy, classic aesthetic filled with lush florals and heartfelt moments.

Their five-tier almond-flavored wedding cake was adorned with buttercream icing and a cascade of sugar flowers.

“It was almost too beautiful to eat,” Courtney says.

One of the most memorable and hilarious moments came when Grey attempted the iconic lift from Dirty Dancing during the reception.

“It definitely wasn’t as smooth as the movie, but we gave it our best shot!”

Family played a central role throughout the celebration. “Both of us come from big, close-knit families, and having them all together in one place made the day feel even more meaningful,” Courtney says.

After their big day, the newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, the perfect setting to relax and reflect on the joyful start of their next chapter. Now living in Atlanta, Courtney works as a clinical nurse at the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Grey is an Enterprise Risk Consultant with Ernst & Young.
