Banks Peninsula Branch Opening Run The day didn’t dawn gloriously fine and consequently numbers were a bit down for this year’s run, but cold though it was, the threatened rain didn’t really come and a nice day’s motoring ensued. Michael Pidgeon had organised a predominantly back-road run starting in Cashmere. Heading out through some Halswell roads of the less well travelled variety, we travelled through Weedons and Sandy Knolls before emerging a little muddier onto SH 73 and into Springfield. A brief spell of seal and we headed off into the Malvern Hills which we wended round in a most satisfactory route and imagined interesting views through the mist. By a circuitous route we ended up a few miles from Springfield at Jenny and Don Wright’s farm where the assorted masses were shown around the interesting collection of veteran, vintage, agricultural and modern vehicles. We were then plied with wine and a tour of the massive irrigation scheme the Wrights have constructed was shown and we all went home well satisfied. Dripfeed October 2016
