ONDOLENCES It is with much sadness that the Manawatu Branch notes the passing of Gladys Haycock and Elizabeth Livingston. The branch extends its sympathies to their husbands and families at this time.
Gladys Eva HAYCOCK
Gladys passed away on 27th May 2021 aged 78 years. She was actively involved with the Vintage Car Club having joined the VCC as a member in 1981. She attended numerous club events with her husband Len, and also on many occasions with her children and grandchildren. We were invited to attend the private funeral service of Gladys Haycock at Beauchamp Funeral Chapel in Marton. With Gladys never wanting any fuss made of her she was laid to rest in a white painted casket. The service was conducted by Beauchamp’s Funeral director who spoke of Gladys’ life being part of a large family living at Nightcaps in Southland. From there she started working in her teens and ended up working at the Criterion Hotel in Bulls. Here Gladys and Len met, married and lived for the rest of their lives in Bulls. From the small group gathered eulogies were given and then the offer was made for anyone gathered to write a farewell message on the casket which was accepted by many. Len and Gladys’ Peugeot 504 Famille (Station Wagon) was used as the hearse to carry Gladys on her last ride to the Clifton Cemetery in Bulls. En-route from Marton to the cemetery Len and Tony played some of Gladys’ favourite music blaring from the car radio. A circuit of the milk tanker track was included on the trip. At the cemetery the music continued out the back of the hearse. Page 11
