We have a garage raid to Waimate on the 2nd of August. I hope that you have signed your name for lunch we do need numbers.
Jeff Omnet has a list for you to sign. Waimate is holding a celebration of Henry Ford's birthday on this 26th of July there is a car display from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Seddon Square I have rung Brian Harrison about a flyer for Daffodil Day. He will be back from Australia by the 26th of July just in time to arrange the program
Regards
Club Captain Athol Caldwell.
This month has been a busy one for the committee getting to grips with the work load ahead for the year, complicated with me being overseas for three weeks and Brian (Secretary) two weeks With this in mind we are concentrating our efforts on organising the Rally for Cancer event scheduled for 24th of August just on four weeks away now. A small team is leading the organising supported by Ernest and myself. It is unfortunate that the local branch of the Cancer Society has been unable to do their normal fund raising event selling bunches of Daffodils to local businesses this year. This means there is no need for our normal service in providing transport to deliver these.
To alleviate the last minute planning of our ongoing events the committee has appointed personnel to lead the planning and management of the following events. Daffodil Rally for Cancer, Swap Meet, Windsor rally, All British, Wee Willie Wonder and Gerald Lynch-Blosse.
The idea is to get ahead in the planning cycle, preferably starting three to four months out. This will not only take the pressure off individuals it should also allow more time to really debate different ideas and encourage a little more participation in these events. Each of these events will stay on the monthly agenda for our committee so we are all kept involved.
John Gale has agreed to continue organising the midmonth runs as well as the monthly motor cycle runs. (Bless him).
On that vein, the July Mid - Month run and Mid-Winter Lunch was very well attended with close to thirty members taking part. Well done John. Check out the separate report on this event in this issue.
At the last committee meeting we had three presentations, one each from Tony Hales, Murray Bain and Ernest George, refer meeting minutes for details.
For those of us that are attending the Waimate Garage Raid, it is Saturday the 2nd of August. If you have not already done so, it is a good time to get the car-pooling arranged. Registration starts 9.30am at Waimate club rooms with morning tea. Then it is on to our Clubs ‘Rally for Cancer’ starting at 1pm Friendly Bay reserve.
The Organising group are looking for marshals on the day to direct traffic, so if this is something you may like to do please contact any of the committee members. This event is open to all vehicles regardless of age so please let your friends and neighbours know. $20 per vehicle, all funds going to our local branch of the Cancer Society so the more vehicles the greater the donation. If you belong to another club or group we have flyers available for you to spread around to encourage others to participate.
Lastly, next month’s Club Night we have a guest speaker. Lee Campbell from Whitestone Funerals will give a presentation on modern funeral practices. While some may find the subject a little morbid I am certain Lee will make it light hearted and very informative. Lee is prepared to answer any questions you may have at the conclusion of her presentation. See you all there Wednesday 6th August. 7.30pm
As they say, be a boy scout – Be prepared.

our destination, that John Gale had organized for us was the Boulders Bar Bristo & Cafe in Hampden,(formerly the Hampden Tavern) where we had our afternoon tea with a great selection of food available, enjoyed by all. Thanks again John.
Some club members and their cars.
We have built on the format from last year to hopefully simplify and increase the interest of the event!
Veterans, Vintages and slower cars will be catered for as well as longer routes for more modern cars it is up to you to choose what suits your car
Join in the procession or not
Stay on Tar seal roads or not
This year we will meet again in the Main Street of Clyde (Sunderland St). You can park up from 8.30 am onward as a “show and shine” to let the public have a closer look at our cars. You can enjoy breakfast or coffee at the many cafes in the area before moving on at your own time after say 10 am. The day is yours to organise as you wish.
We will be set up at the Lodge Dunstan (Cnr of Sutherland St and Lodge Lane) from about 8.30am with your rally packs and will have the rally briefing at 9.45am
Those who want to go in the Blossom Festival Procession will need to park up at our usual spot in Enterprise Street (turn left at the top of the hill into Royal Terrace then next right into Enterprise St). The rally marshals will guide you. The procession starts at 11.45am. Parking is available at Bantry Street inside the festival grounds after the procession in Pioneer Park.
The Rally format will be:
Before the event You will be sent a list of places of interest to visit (including directions of how to get to each) including the points each destination is worth You will choose which you want to visit to accrue the right amount of points. This is so you can work out your route prior to the event.
The questions to answer at these destinations will be in your rally pack handed out on the Saturday morning. You will choose which you want to visit to accrue the right amount of points.
Points will be given to those who go in the procession and so that those who choose not to are not disadvantaged and can gain points in visiting more or further afield places of interest on the list. Older slower cars will also be given points so as they are not disadvantaged.
The event will end at the COVCC Litany St Clubrooms in Cromwell for a light afternoon tea, catch up and prize-giving later in the day and the opportunity to have a look through the parts sheds
We are not providing an evening meal this year but will have the clubrooms open for those who want to join with takeaways. BYO Food and refreshments.
Sunday 28th at 10am meet at the Clubrooms in Litany St for a garage Raid in the local area.
Bring your Lunch to the clubrooms before heading home.
We look forward to seeing you there

If you want to get rid of your used oil. Bring your containers of used oil to 19 Hayle Street by Tuesday 26th August and place them on the trailer. I won’t return empty containers.
Cheers Ernest.
For July's mid run we left the club rooms earlier than usual at 11am for a short run of about 30 minutes that took us along Ardgowan road, down Buckley's hill, past the new stadium to view progress there, then up Derwent st, onto Homestead road, Parsons road, and Chelmer st, to our destination "The Oamaru Club". There was a good turn out of about 30 and we all enjoyed one of their $20 Goldcard meals for lunch, all organized by John Gale . Thank you John.
My friend and I have just purchased a 1920 Fiat 501 tourer which was owned from new by Major Harry Orbell, and from 1952 until recent years Ivan Main. The body was built by Johnson and Smith coachbuilders of Christchurch. Apparently Ivan Main was a regular at vintage club runs in his hometown of Oamaru for many years with this car, so we are wondering if any members of your branch have memories or even better, photographs of this car back in the day. It is supposed that this car may have been bought off a show stand for the coachbuilder in 1920 so any information about them would also be interesting to us. We intend to drive the car up to where we live in Auckland this summer.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Best regards, Ben Creemers and Roger Bourne, members of the Auckland branch. See below photo of the car as we have bought it.
