Over 70 years ago, women across the country went to sleep in their frivolous nightgowns dreaming about suburbia. They may have thought that this was the American Dream; however, the media propagated this idea and narrowly defined success as the modern suburban family. In the 1950s, higher education and work were a fairly foreign idea to women, as they were told their hardest achievable work was housework and tending to their families. Women who did attend college were

told they were going for their “Mrs.” degree, or rather they were looking for husbands. Since then, society has transformed into becoming radically and profoundly new. However, at the surface of the transformation, these gender stereotypes still exist.
