Spring ‘25
The Spring 2025 edition of VIM is a lasting love letter from us to MSU. With both of us being a part of this completely student-led publication for all four years, this is a bittersweet goodbye. Our hard-working team creates two magazines every year, consisting of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle stories available to students free of charge. VIM is a safe and inclusive space where all members have the opportunity to explore and develop their creative and professional desires.
This semester’s magazine, once again, marks a few new accomplishments. Our art team has their first-ever spread in the magazine, “Planet VIM.” Our Alumni Relations team collaborated with our UX team to create an Alumni database (password protected) built into our website to further VIM’s reach post-graduation. With the Alumni database, we hope to give current VIM members greater opportunity to connect with past members.
At our biweekly meetings, we spoke to many industry professionals across the fashion, beauty and lifestyle fields. We learned about the ins and outs of influencing, entrepreneurship, celebrity event planning, the Cartier luxury business and the esteemed Condé Nast.
As our last semester as VIM’s Editors-In-Chief comes to an end, we want to thank all of our hard-working and dedicated directors, team members and collective members. More specifically, we want to highlight our seniors, who have contributed so deeply to this organization in their time at MSU. We are incredibly proud of the work that everyone has contributed this school year.
Signing off one last time, &

Fashion seemingly has rules about which colors, fabrics and patterns match or clash, but these rules are often broken when laundry day comes around. Understanding the importance of laundry day is essential when learning how to create new outfits without purchasing more clothes. So play around and mix and match pieces. If it can mix in the wash, why not in the wardrobe?
As household appliance prices reach staggering heights, many struggle to maintain proper clothing hygiene. But do not stress; if putting together an outfit on laundry day is feasible, washing those clothes is, too. Laundromats have become a community cornerstone and a staple for many, providing a convenient and affordable clothing-care solution to those without in-home laundry appliances. Beyond washing and drying, many laundromats have turned their dials, offering dry cleaning, ironing options and other amenities. These facilities remain vital, ensuring that economic circumstances do not dictate clothing hygiene.
These community staples cater to sustainable practices, too. For example, implementing energy-efficient machines, water-saving techniques and eco-friendly detergents helps to combat the harm laundry practices have on the planet. Consider fast fashion, a notorious clothing production form that moves more rapidly than a laundry machine’s fastest spin cycle. From textile dye and garment microplastics seeping into the oceans to millions of pounds in garment waste each year, it is time to hop off the fast-fashion bandwagon and think twice before buying. Investing in long-lasting, durable and better-quality clothing is made possible by having the ability to care for clothing properly.
Just as laundromats accommodate a wide range of clothing, the increased accessibility has turned peoples’ concerns from “how to wash clothing” to “what to wear,” promoting inclusivity in the fashion world. Additionally, increased exposure to other styles at these centers of inspiration leads to finer curations of personal styles. With fashion being a popular form of self-expression and integral to identity, better care for clothing means better care for oneself.
Laundromats spin the cycle of fashion, proving it knows no bounds. Laundromats are not just facilities to wash clothes. They are places where affordability, sustainability, community and self-expression all spin harmoniously. The so-called ‘clash’ is nothing more than the bebop-esque rhythm of the buttons on blouses and the zippers on jeans tapping against the washing machines. So learn about clothes and the possibilities they offer next laundry day!

These irrational fears can be harmless and funny, such as anatidaephobia: the fear of a duck watching you, or nomophobia: the fear of not having your phone. Others can be more intense like claustrophobia: the fear of being in a small space, and hypochondria: the fear of being sick. These can lead to stress-inducing physical and mental systems ranging from panic attacks to breakdowns. You might not even realize you have a phobia and mistake it as normalcy. These can lead to stress-inducing physical and mental systems ranging from panic attacks to breakdowns. You might not even realize you have a phobia and mistake it as normalcy. Some of the most common phobias are…
Entomophobia:
the fear of insects. Individuals with this phobia may scream, hide or even run away when spotting a bug. This fear can be broken down into other specified phobias, for example, arachnophobia: the fear of spiders.
Trypophobia:
an intense distress of repetitive tiny holes. Some example triggers can be honeycombs, sponges and strawberries.
Phonophobia:
the fear of loud noises. Other phobias associated with this fear are misophonia, chewing or breathing leading to panic or annoyance, and hyperacusis, where sounds feel heightened.
With new phobias being discovered and diagnosed, it seems individuals have to work harder to fight their fears. Therapy or gradual exposure works best when overcoming a phobia. If you have a fear of elevators, try taking it once a day, then two, then three. Slowly but surely your phobia could slowly dissipate. Another way to combat a phobia is by building relaxation skills and mindsets. This can be done through physical activity like yoga, going on walks or working out.
We are all human, and phobias are just a part of what makes us unique. With time and patience, we can work to overcome these intense (and sometimes ridiculous sounding) phobias. So, the next time you are on a plane, sitting in the dark or standing next to a clown, remember you’re not alone — and your fears might be more common than you think.

Take a seat. Now, feel the present moment. When someone cares deeply about another, tension builds within the body when delivering news. Humans fear the unknown, especially when the outcome is uncontrollable. No one wants to be the bearer of bad news, but even when delivering good news, a strange feeling lingers in the mind that can often bring anxiety to any situation.
Anxiety and anxious excitement are two very different things, but they can both be very impactful. Whether enthusiasm or anticipation for an awkward conversation are at play, they add an imaginary weight to one’s mentality. As a stressful situation arises, the body goes into a fight or flight mode, causing the muscles to tighten and lock up—this
is called muscle tension.Common areas where this tension might manifest are the shoulders, neck and back. All of this can happen in seconds without one even realizing it.
There are numerous ways
to combat this type of stress. One of the most common ways is using relaxation methods like deep breathing, closing the eyes, rolling the shoulders or thinking of a safe place. Another remedy can be physical activity, preferably outside, to breathe fresh air and clear the mind. Another effective strategy is taking a step back. Understanding that not everything is controllable is key when combating muscle tension. Access the situation, and keep in mind that anxiety is not the end of the world. Knowing when to step away and care for oneself is key to avoiding stress within the body. With practice and support from these tools, stress can be processed even while standing—no need to sit down to manage it.

The history of fashion and garment construction spans centuries and evolves with time. The process varies through periods, but as trends change, one thing stays the same: the purpose of dressing the body. The body takes on the role of performance, and elements of dress shine. Clothing is designed to conceal, cradle or accentuate the body. Designers make intentional choices to highlight the desired sections of the body they see fit to convey their message. They choose ways to incorporate boning, underwire, hoop skirts, waist cinchers and darts to conceal or reveal parts of the body.
Originating in the 16th century, corsets passed beyond the function of a traditional undergarment as it transformed the body to resemble an hourglass figure. Later, due to the demands of WWI, the use of metal in corsets was no longer a priority, giving the world the underwire brassiere. The modern world tends to focus more on exposing the beauty of the body with cutouts and plunging necklines. It rarely relies on the excessive layers of highly structured and restricting garments, including stiff petticoats and corsets.
The fascinating and intense nature of the human body has been a source of numerous designers’ inspiration. Artists
focus on elements from the skeletal bone structure to vein lines intertwined with muscles. Thom Brown’s Anatomy Gown utilized one half of the dress to show off the intricate pattern created by the body’s deep red muscles and blue veins. Numerous designers, including Roberto Cavalli’s 2000 collection dress worn by Zendaya, utilize a version of a metal spine paired with a backless silhouette. Similarly, Schiaparelli’s 2021-22 couture black gown worn by Bella Hadid featured a revealing ‘U’ neckline with a gold-dipped metal necklace resembling the lungs’ bronchi passageway. Furthermore, Robert Wun created an extraordinary interpretation of the four layers of the human body separated into the skin, the flesh, the bones and the soul.
Recurring themes of metal integrated with fabric and structured garments showcasing the desired shapes of the body have followed numerous designers over the years. Designers’ ability to pursue their unique vision of a familiar yet astonishing form, the human body, is an inspiring yet typically underappreciated quality. Undeniably, the elaborate human anatomy continues to inspire how fashion designers create garments for the outermost layer of the human body.
Fashion has long been a medium for self-expression, but it is an ever-evolving experiment at its core. Experimental dressing pushes the boundaries of style, allowing individuals to challenge traditional norms, mix unexpected elements, and explore their identities through clothing. Whether layering unconventional textures, embracing avant-garde silhouettes or repurposing vintage pieces in modern ways, fashion is a creative playground where personal style is constantly in flux.
Historically, rigid societal expectations often dictated fashion, with clear distinctions between what was consid-
ered appropriate for different genders, classes and occasions. However, as cultural movements have challenged these norms, style has become more fluid and expressive. The 20th century saw rebellious shifts, from the flapper dresses of the 1920s to the punk rock aesthetics of the 1970s, each era redefining what fashion could be. Today, the boundaries of style continue to expand, proving that fashion is not just about following trends but about breaking the rules and reimagining self-expression.
The beauty of experimental dressing lies in its ability to be both intentional
and spontaneous. Some individuals carefully curate their outfits to make bold statements, while others stumble upon unique combinations by chance. The rise of social media and street style culture has only amplified this phenomenon, showcasing how fashion is not confined to the runway; it thrives in everyday life. Trends emerge from trial and error, subcultures blending aesthetics and individuals daring to be different.

At Michigan State University, students experiment with style every day, showcasing individuality in fresh and bold ways. Students on campus often defy past standards by rocking groundbreaking outfits such as monochromatic sweat sets and legging combos that curate a striking look. Students are not afraid to reclaim styles that were once considered a fashion misstep, such as denim on denim. Students are embracing these looks and pulling them off with style. Fashion has evolved into a hotspot of experimentation, with many different prints and designs getting thrown into the mix. Conventional rules are no longer considered to be set in stone, as bending them is commonplace in the current era.
Unlike in the past, when defying societal norms through fashion was often frowned upon, today’s students are celebrated for doing just that. Bright colors, edgy patterns and dark makeup are embraced as ways to express mood and identity. Students mix and match trends from previous decades, like 70s-style bell bottoms or vintage graphic tees, even if they do not align with today’s “trends.”
Experimenting with fashion goes beyond appearance; it is a journey of self-discovery, helping students find and express true identities. The freedom to explore different styles without fear of judgment creates an environment where creativity is bound to thrive.

Forgiveness is a complex act that transcends its simple definition. MerriamWebster defines forgiving as a verb meaning “to cease to feel resentment,” but this definition overlooks the complexity of the emotional processes involved in letting go of resentment toward someone who has caused harm. The need to forgive can arise from various situations — a friend speaking negatively behind closed doors, a partner’s betrayal of boundaries or trust or a family member keeping a secret. When these actions come to light, justifications or apologies are made, leading to a difficult choice between forgiving, forgetting or holding onto the pain. Forgiveness brings buried thoughts to the surface, often leading to an individual’s maladaptive selfinterrogation. Does forgiving make
they forgive cause harm again? Amid the agony, sleepless nights and moments of deep reflection, the focus shifts to the evaluation of relationships themselves. Has the relationship always been toxic? Is forgiveness even necessary if it has only brought on negativity? Or is this a relationship worth salvaging because, despite the hurt, it’s been a steady source of joy many times prior? Forgiveness can be difficult, sometimes scary, because the possibility of being wronged again will always exist. That is the risk in forgiveness — it opens the door for healing or hurting (and sometimes both). Throughout this journey, powerful realizations arise. Maybe forgiveness is not for the perpetrator at all, but for the alleviation of the heavy burden that is resentment. Consider life as a series of decisions about what to hold onto and what
harm, disrupting the potential for inner peace. Forgiveness is not a one-size-fits-all process — its meaning and necessity vary from case to case. Sometimes it doesn’t need to be offered at all. Sometimes the pain caused by someone’s actions, betrayal or disrespect cuts so deep that forgiveness is simply unwarranted. And that’s okay. Forgiveness is often misunderstood as reconciliation, but in reality doesn’t require love, hate or any lingering emotions at all. True forgiveness can manifest as indifference — the ability to let go of the emotional weight while recognizing that an individual no longer has the right to occupy space in the heart or mind. It’s not about excusing behavior or welcoming them back; it’s about relieving the pain caused by their actions and choosing to move forward on terms that strengthen and

Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year is an annual celebration filled with joy, food, family and good fortune.
Traditionally, many celebrate Lunar New Year as it marks the beginning of the lunar calendar year. Lunar New Year began in China and spread to many other countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines and Korea. Many of these cultures are graced with food delicacies that are only received during this celebration. Giving and receiving jade and eating mandarin oranges, seeking good fortune. All while admiring the fresh flowers to begin the new year with new beginnings.
Simon Phan, a student at Michigan State University, is a part of the Vietnamese Student Association, serving
as Entertainment Chair on the e-board, and Chloe Lee, who is also a Michigan State Student and a member of the Korean Student Association. Despite parting from their family and friends, they both found solace in being a part of on-campus organizations while navigating what it looks like to celebrate holidays and cultures significant to their culture, such as Lunar New Year.
Being firmly rooted in Korean culture, this celebratory time is filled with remembrance of traditions that Lee will carry into the future. Growing up, she recalls eating rice cake soup and other traditional Korean staples and taking time to bow down and pay respect to her elders as she received words of wisdom. The occasion was a special moment for Lee to connect with her cousins and to give and receive
love from family that she may only see during this time of year. She expressed the joy of wearing certain cultural clothing that made her feel proud of her culture’s tradition.
Phan details his experiences eating Banh Tet, or Sticky Rice Cakes, and receiving red envelopes filled with money from his youth while celebrating Lunar New Year within the Catholic church. He also shared with Lee the memory of honoring his ancestors and seeking good fortune for his family by reorganizing his home to signify bringing fresh energy into the new year.
Both of their experiences highlight the differences in how East Asian cultures choose to celebrate the
new year. Nevertheless, they are firmly connected, sharing a similar understanding between their cultures. Along with this common push and pull feeling of navigating being connected to their Asian culture whilst still being American. Both Phan and Lee were deeply integrated into their cultures, which helped them continue to appreciate and navigate what celebrating their culture means to each of them.
There are many celebrations and holidays that Lee and Phan celebrate that continue to give them affirmation of their Asian roots. Nevertheless, Lunar New Year is a significant celebration that connects Lee and Phan and many others from various
cultures and how they choose to celebrate — connecting with family and friends, indulging in good foods and playing games, praying to ancestors and receiving words of wisdom from their elders for future guidance and protection. With the end of winter approaching and spring on the horizon, fresh flowers were cut, and good omens were traded and placed in hopes of a prosperous new year. Happy Lunar New Year to anyone and everyone who celebrates!

STEP INTO THE KALEIDOSCOPE. STEP INTO THE KALEIDOSCOPE. STEP INTO THE KALEIDOSCOPE.
Here, colors shift, patterns change and the beauty of complexity takes center stage. But beyond the vibrant twists and turns lies a deeper story — one of struggle, resilience and the silent battles against PCOS, endometriosis and PMDD. These conditions color the lives of millions of women with layers of pain and misunderstanding, often left undiagnosed and unmanaged. It’s time to rewrite the narrative and shine a light on the need for awareness.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a condition where hormonal imbalances affect the ovaries, leading to symptoms such as irregular menstrual periods, excessive hair growth and potential infertility. Approximately 6% to 13% of reproductive-age women are diagnosed with PCOS, facing not only physical symptoms but also significant emotional distress.
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus grows outside of it, causing pain, severe menstrual cramps and potential infertility. It affects about 10% of reproductive-age women and often requires a surgical diagnosis, contributing to a lengthy process that can exacerbate the emotional and physical toll on the woman with the condition. The overlapping symptoms with PCOS, such as painful periods and fertility concerns, often lead to misdiagnosis or delayed treatment.
PremenstrualDysphoric Disorder(PMDD) represents the most severe form of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), with symptoms that include extreme mood swings, depression, irritability and anxiety. Affecting between 5% to 8% of reproductiveage women, PMDD’s impact on emotional wellbeing can be debilitating, influencing every aspect of a woman’s life from personal relationships to professional performance. The emotional symptoms of PMDD often mirror the psychological distress caused by the chronic pain associated with endometriosis and the hormonal fluctuations in PCOS, creating a trifecta of emotional and physical health challenges.
While these conditions are discussed independently of each other, the symptoms often overlap — sharing chronic pelvic pain, irregular menstrual cycles, mood swings and more. The kaleidoscope reflects the complex and widerange nature of these health conditions. More specifically, PMDD, endometriosis and PCOS include symptoms that are constantly changing
throughout the menstrual cycle and can vary significantly from person to person — much like a kaleidoscope depicting a wide array of shapes and colors. Turning the knob of the kaleidoscope, new colors, shapes and images emerge — just as endometriosis brings new symptoms each month. The kaleidoscope’s overlapping colors blend uniquely at every turn, forming a complex image that is difficult to separate — just like the diagnosis of endometriosis, which involves multiple organs.
Misdiagnosis of women’s health conditions, especially endometriosis, happens more often than most realize. Studies have shown that 75.2% of patients report being misdiagnosed with another physical or mental health problem by gynecologists or other general health practitioners. Some patients are told that their symptoms are due to weight-related issues, anxiety or stress. Other patients are told they have conditions such as chronic pelvic pain syndrome, bleeding disorders, appendicitis or irritable colon. Misdiagnosis disproportionately affects individuals from marginalized and vulnerable populations, who often face barriers to quality medical care and accurate diagnostic technology.
Despite the 22 billion spent annually on the treatment and care of endometriosis, less than 1% of the NIH budget is allocated for the research, diagnosis, treatment and therapy for endometriosis.
In the same way, missed diagnoses of PCOS are highest among women who are Black, on Medicaid, non-English speaking and with a lower body mass index (BMI). Without proper diagnosis, this can delay the proper treatment that could improve an individual’s quality of life, reduce comorbidities and mitigate longterm health risks. Additionally, this creates a financial burden for patients, who must seek opinions from multiple healthcare professionals and undergo unnecessary testing — not to mention the emotional toll and burden this places on patients who are already struggling.
Misdiagnosis of these health conditions comes from a multitude of different factors at the societal level. Some examples include gender biases in medicine, a lack of funding for women’s health research and insufficient medical education on endometriosis and PCOS.
Though these complex experiences color the lives of millions of women, learning to look through a different lens and raise awareness, push for healthcare reform and challenge medical biases is essential for initiating real change. Ultimately improving the lives of women who experience these conditions and their access to effective

A first love is a unique and irreplaceable experience in many people’s lives. It’s an experience that will remain in one’s heart as the first romantic connection with another. With first love, every moment feels new. From the butterflies felt when that person walks in a room, to the simple moments like holding hands, sharing secrets or experiencing the excitement of mutual affection — these experiences are deeply ingrained into one’s memory for a lifetime, making it truly unforgettable.
If lucky, some may have the joy of experiencing love for the first time. Whether that first love fades away, moves on or remains by one’s side, it will always hold a unique place in someone’s heart. This beauty of first love is that it is the first time someone truly opens up in a vulnerable way with a person they feel completely comfortable with. Being around someone who makes
all problems disappear and brings a sense of true ease is a beautiful experience. That person pauses and allows one to relax and breathe. This allows individuals to better understand emotions and the meaning of caring deeply for someone. As time moves on and people grow older, some may have more mature and stable relationships, but the memory of a first love will always resonate. It’s more a happy feeling and memory; representing the first true understanding of what it means to love and be loved. This unique combination of vulnerability, intensity and innocence, is what makes first love so beautiful and impossible to forget.
While first love can bring unimaginable joy, it can also be very painful because it brings along the first heartbreak. This concept can be difficult to process, but can also create a sense of nostalgia in the future. The memories of first love can
evoke certain feelings from one’s past, making it hard to fully let go and move on.
First love is full of excitement and vulnerability from the many firsts, which can become the standard for future relationships. In other words, it’s forgettable.

PageantQueens
TThe act of picking a queen based on appearance has served as a source of entertainment for centuries. Although pageantry has taken many forms throughout history, what is recognized today as the modern beauty pageant developed in 1921. Miss America began as a plan to bring tourists into Atlantic City, and in turn, kickstarted a billion dollar industry. The competition raised conversation on issues of class, gender and race. As America headed into the 1950’s, women were taking charge of how they expressed their sexuality. At the same time, beauty pageants began spreading nationally and globally. In 1952, the Miss Universe pageant held its first competition, and placed women from all around the world on one stage. With the two largest beauty competitions established, the pageant industry has only become more complex. Behind the romanticized glitz and glamour of beauty pageants, lies the constant competitive nature of the performances and the
negative mental health effects on young women. With the general public perceiving every aspect of the contestants’ appearance, anxiety and depression inevitably slip their way in, making it easy to exploit children and young adults. Contestants can fall victim to the toxic work environment that is commonly accompanied with harassment, bullying and lack of support. The hyperawareness and toxic atmosphere that derives from pageants has shown to negatively affect body image for the contestants and viewers at home. Studies show that contestants in pageants are likely to develop eating disorders and mental health issues due to contestants feeling as though they are being “pitted against” one another. With body dissatisfaction and low self-esteem in play, the value they have in themselves relies on the way they look. It is crucial to understand the dark mental toll that contestants undergo when their high-heels hit the pageant stage. Where there is bad, there is also good.
Pageants have the best of both worlds, and as the world evolves so does the pageant industry. The evolution of pageants began with addressing flaws, including lack of inclusivity and unrealistic expectations. Today, pageants have made the decision to accept different identities to compete despite their race, weight or gender assigned at birth. With the acceptance of diversity and inclusion, a safe and impactful community is able to flourish. Pageants bring competitors together and truly empower women. As competitions shift their focus on raising up its competitors and viewers, contestants are able to build connections and create great networking opportunities. Teen winners can receive college scholarships, while the crowned Miss Universe becomes an ambassador to multiple charities. In the future, pageants plan to develop more emphasis on social causes, advocacy and mental health support for contestants.

So often in busy lives, important things are neglected to focus on the task at hand. Whether forgetting a friend’s birthday but dropping everything for a work deadline, staying up late to write an essay but failing to text back a parent, or resisting a rest day from the gym, it is common to forget that the body needs time to recover. The balance of school, jobs and a social life is easy to be consumed by, even when the body begs for rest. Whether it is the common cold or the “frat flu,” many fail to obey their immune systems and take time to recover.
When “under the weather,” the immune system works overtime to get back tinto tip-top shape. Overworking can not only lead to illness, but if it continues while sick, the recovery period is even longer. Hydration and symptom management can only go so far if students continue to attend classes, exercise at the gym and go out with friends. Respecting the body’s wishes looks different for everyone. However, the goal of making a full recovery should be consistent. Resting is having a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup while watching that show that’s been in the queue for too long or finally reading a book recreationally. Shifting worries away from falling behind to getting better will only build strength back up.
Illness prevention and recovery share one common denominator: rest. In a world that overemphasizes the hustle, asking for permission to take a break often feels necessary. Ignoring the body’s warning signs does more harm than good. Pushing through sickness and discomfort might seem wise, but it ultimately leads to longer recovery and potentially more serious health complications.
Think of recovery as an investment in long-term success. A few days away from work, school, the gym and social activities allow for a more energetic and focused return. While it may feel like a luxury, taking time off is essential to staying healthy and avoiding burnout. Confucius is credited with saying, “A healthy man wants a thousand things; a sick man only wants one.” Without good health, it can be difficult to enjoy anything at all.
Try to let go of the pressure to keep pushing through. In those quiet moments of recovery, it is important to embrace moments of stillness. Health is the foundation of life, so take care of it. Trust that the body will be grateful for time to restore, recharge and return stronger than ever.
MEN IN SPORTS FUNDAMENTALS
On the surface, sports may seem like a global spectacle on primetime TV. But beneath the excitement and loud cheers, they hold a much deeper significance, especially for men. From an early age, sports are often ingrained in the lives of young men, whether through attending games as children or being raised in sports-oriented families. This exposure naturally pushes many to pursue sports in grade school and beyond, where competition, discipline and teamwork become fundamental aspects of their daily lives.

Over time, these experiences play a significant role in shaping their mentality, confidence and overall personality, influencing how they approach challenges on and off the field. The journey of a young man’s development in sports begins with coaching. While a coach’s primary role is to refine skills, strategize plays and lead the team to victory, their influence extends far beyond the game. Coaches witness players at their highest and lowest, guiding them through their sport and life. They help shape character, instill discipline and support crucial life decisions, all of which are essential as a boy transitions into manhood. Having a respectable and honorable coach to look up to can significantly impact a player’s choices, mindset and overall personal growth.

Beyond the guidance found in coaching, men also build strong friendships with their teammates. Spending countless hours together during grueling practices, team meetings and traveling for games fosters a unique camaraderie. Shared experiences of victory, defeat and personal challenges create deep connections built on trust, support and mutual respect. These bonds extend beyond the game, forming lifelong friendships that provide a sense of brotherhood and belonging.

Sports instill in men the fundamental value of teamwork. They learn that success isn’t just about individual talent but about playing for and with each other. With coordination, communication and trust, athletes develop the ability to work together toward a common goal, understanding their actions impact the entire team. This lesson extends beyond the game, as life requires teamwork — whether in friendships, family or careers. Just like in sports, individuals in society aren’t only playing for themselves but also for the people who support, depend on and grow alongside them.

Buttons have been used for thousands of years, evolving from decorative and symbolic statements on a garment to functional items that hold two pieces of fabric together. The history of buttons can be roughly traced back to 2000 BCE. The rise of tailored clothing during the Middle Ages led to the use of buttons to enclose garments. Their popularity increased over the years, and their functional use in garment-making was widespread throughout Europe by the 14th century.
Buttons were a sign of wealth in the Renaissance Era, often made of expensive gemstones or metals like gold and silver. To this day, buttons represent a level of prestige or power, often used in formal and workwear designs. For example, a suit jacket that a person of power wears always features buttons— whether for decor or functionality.
Over the decades, alternative clasp methods like zippers and velcro have been preferred for massproduced clothing items, as they require less craftsmanship and more inexpensive materials. However, they are no replacement for the timeless button, which remains a fashion staple for function and decor today. In the 20th century, there was a massive uptick in the production of plastic buttons, which is how they have maintained relevance in modern fashion.
Beyond practicality, buttons have been a canvas for artistic expression. This practice has been used primarily by luxury fashion houses that often design intricate buttons to elevate custom garments. Buttons are iconic symbols in fashion that are recognizable to anyone, whether the button is decorative or functional. Despite the evolution of fashion, buttons remain a significant symbol of fashion in every era.
