Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents, Alumni and Friends of Villanova College, What a truly unique and challenging time we find ourselves in. Since March of 2020 we have had to adapt, reinvent, alter, revise, modify and change so many aspects of our daily lives. We’ve been forced to prioritize that which is important and central to our wellbeing – our health, our family and our faith. I sincerely hope that despite the many obstacles you may have had to overcome this past year, that you find yourself looking forward with renewed hope and resolve that there are brighter days just ahead.

The heart of Villanova College has always been our community. This school was born out of the faith and commitment of the founding families who came together to form the new VC family. Twenty years later, that sense of community – UNITAS – is still what defines the VC experience. Over this past year, more than ever, the VC family has demonstrated its strength and determination to do what we do best – provide your children - our students - with the very best education while helping them discern their passions, develop their strengths and discover their true selves during their most formative years.

ARTS REPORT 2018-2019 The Villanova College Arts program continued to enjoy success over the 2018-2019 school year.

In October, during our annual Arts Knight, upper School visual art students showcased a wonderful display of artwork demonstrating the remarkable and diverse talents of our student artists. Several middle school and upper school music students performed on stage in front of an appreciative audience.

A noteworthy highlight for the Visual Arts program was the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts held

by Arts Society King. This exhibition, held at the King Township Municipal Centre, was the fourth partnership between the Villanova Visual Arts Department and A.S.K. The exhibition was on display from March 25th to May 3rd and was a resounding success. Members of the greater King Township community were able to view the exceptional work of Villanova’s upper school artists.

Our bands and choirs performed at several music festivals and annual concerts. In April, the Intermediate Stage Band, VC Voices and Senior Concert Band competed at the York Region Music Alive Festival. Our groups received one Silver and two Gold ratings from the adjudicators!

The Intermediate Stage Band and VC Voices also had the opportunity to perform at the Canada’s Wonderland Music Festival. Following these festivals, the Senior Concert Band, Festival Winds, Senior Jazz Band, Intermediate Stage Band, Boys Choir, VC Voices and Junior Choir performed at the annual Spring concert held at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. This was followed by another concert at the Shrine which featured our Grade 7-9 music classes.

Seussical the Musical was performed at the end of May and demonstrated the outstanding collaboration between several departments at VC, including Music, Drama, Visual Arts, and Technology Design. Our Spring season wrapped up with a mini concert featuring the Grade 4-6 bands in the school library.

Finally, June 2019 saw the completion of a community-based mural by the Grade 12 visual arts students. This mural is intended to remain on permanent display at Villanova as a memento of the students’ artistic growth and development. Congratulations to the Grade 12 artists from the 2018-2019 school year on a job well done!

From 26 students in 1999 to 545 in 2019, Villanova College has not just grown in numbers. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we can’t help but look back on the growth we’ve experienced in all areas of VC life and especially our exceptional academic and co-curricular programs.
