Child Sponsorship is a club that is charged with raising $4,000 a year in sponsorship of 10 children in Cameroon, Africa. By raising awareness and funds, we are able to provide food, medicine, education and in some cases shelter for these children. Child has been part of Villanova’s outreach for over ten years.

Reading Buddies is a literacy outreach program to Charles Garnier School in the Jane/Finch
Campus Ministry is an attempt to extend our religious experience beyond the classroom and integrate our faith throughout the life of the school. Primarily through weekly prayer services, liturgies, the sacrament of reconciliation, a comprehensive retreat program and many works of charity and social outreach, we attempt to create an environment that knows, loves and serves God.

Service outreach and initiatives for the 2014-15 school year include the following:
SAVI – “Student Augustinian Values Institute” is our social justice club that raises awareness and moves to action when looking at issues like poverty, homelessness, violence against women or children, literacy, as well as other issues on a local and global level. The ideas and focus for each year grows out of the collective conscience of students within the group and this past year involved the following campaigns: • • • •

Adopt - A - Senior is a program whereby outreach teams go to a local retirement home, Richview Manor in Maple, once a week and spend time working and visiting with the residents. The student volunteers do arts and craft activities, play cards and or bingo, do karaoke sing-a-longs, an Oscar night red carpet event, and participate in the York Region Strides for Stroke run.
Bowl for Dreams with Aptus Treatment Centre - Each year members of the grade 12 Christian Leadership classes organizes a “Bowl for Dreams” fundraiser for Aptus, a treatment centre that works with children and adults with Special Needs. The Sunday bowl-a-thon involves staff and students from both Villanova and Aptus and traditionally raises anywhere from $12,000 - $20,000 in proceeds.
Habitat for Humanity - Mission trips this year saw 30 grade 12 students participate in two separate mission trips with Habitat for Humanity in Rochester,New York and Camden, New Jersey. The trips afford students a chance to live simply in community and be people of change as they work with Habitat for Humanity, helping people rebuild their lives as they build their homes. It truly is a “hand up, not a hand out” and gives our students a chance to put faith into action.
Kairos - This past November we completed K-10 which means for the past five years Kairos, a 4 day Grade 12 retreat, calling us to “God’s Time” has helped form the lives and conscience of some five hundred Villanova students. We are forever grateful to those first students who took the risk and brought Kairos to Villanova: Laura Lehman, Chelsea Carroll, Renata Barichello, Jessica Rukavina, Sabrina Colosimo, Davide DeFrancesco, Christopher Vinelli, David Bar, Matteo Ciuffreda and Andrew Spencer.
