Y es que no le podemos decir otra cosa a Jairo después de lo mucho que hemos gritado como si no hubiera un mañana: ¡Ojalá no te hubiera conocido nunca! Entrevistamos a Jairo Perera, conocido por todos como Muchachito, que aterriza en la isla para dar un concierto el próximo 13 de mayo en la conocida sala del puerto de Ciutadella: Jazzbah. Actúa con su formato One Man Band.

¿Qué diferencia encontramos entre Bombo Infierno y One Man Band?

Uno de los dos es en inglés... Hablando en serio, uno es con la banda, donde la gente disfruta de la presencia de cada uno de los componentes, sus arreglos y energía. En el otro concierto estoy solo con la canción desnuda y con el pulso de aguantar el ritmo durante todo el bolo como una locomotora. Conseguí hacer una batería con bombo, cajas, hit hat y platos. Antonio Sierra y la gente de Gewa me ayudaron mucho; también Carlos Raya para la gira de Fito me instruyó para poder hacer el bajo mejor con la guitarra.

There is nothing more we could say to Jairo at our first meeting especially after all the shouting we have done at his concerts thanks to which we were left hoarse!! For this interview we are going to find out more about Jairo Perera, better known as Muchachito, who will come to the island on the 13th of May to perform with his group ‘the One Man Band’ in Jazzbah, a well known concert bar in Ciutadella.

What differences can we find between Bombo Infierno and One Man Band?

One is in English…no, seriously one is with the group when the audience can enjoy the energy of each and every musical arrangement, but at the other concert I am on my own, unplugged and trying to keep the rythm going all night. I managed to make a drum set with a bass drum, a flamenco box, hit hat and drum plates with help from Antonio Sierra and the members of Gewa. When we were on tour for Fito, Carlos Raya showed me how to get a better bass sound with a guitar, and I must say that I felt really at home on the tour and learnt a lot. After all this I decided to go it alone and accompany myself with only my old drum and my guitar as these were the first instruments which helped me to make some money and maintain this physical pulse.

En esa gira con Fito y compañía me sentí en casa y aprendí mucho… Después de todo esto que os cuento, he decidido ir solo con mi bombo de toda la vida y mi guitarra de siempre. Fueron los primeros en darme de comer de esto y mantengo ese pulso físico.

¿Es la primera vez en la sala Jazzbah? No, ya he estado. Me lo pasé muy bien, aunque tengo el recuerdo de varias veces sin tocar allí y se me confunden las noches, pero siempre he estado muy a gusto. Otro sitio querido que me dejan entrar.

¿Qué esperas de tu próximo concierto del 13 de mayo?

Calor, mucho calor, que la gente baile mucho y... ¡bañarme!

Has actuado en la isla varias veces, pero ¿has estado de vacaciones por Menorca?

Casi me quedo a vivir… de hecho tengo mi familia en la isla, vine a tocar, volví y volví hasta que una de las veces me quedé meses. Los de "Es Claustre" son muy culpables, pero saben valorar mi cariño hacia el Jazzbah y su gente.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de la isla? Cómo corre el tiempo… y la facilidad de cambiar el plan.

¿Cuál es tu rincón favorito en Menorca?

Cualquier rincón que me enseñe mi amigo Aikau, que siempre me lleva, aunque tenga poco rato, a algún sitio fantástico.

-¿Is this your first concert in the Jazzbah?

No, I have played here before but I can also remember the times I didn’t play but still had a good time. I get confused somethimes, but thankfully this is another treasured place where they let me in.

How do you think the concert will go on the 13th of May?

I think it is going to be very hot and I hope everyone will dance a lot, and then I’ll go for a swim.

You have played several times here in Minorca, but have you ever spent your holidays here?

Well to tell you the truth I nearly came to live here, my family lives here and I came once to play, and then I returned several times more and one time I stayed here for a couple of months. The ones from Es Claustre are the culprits, but they know I have strong bond with the folks from the Jazzbah.

What do you like best about the island? The rythm of life here and how easy it to change plans.

Which is your favourite place in Menorca?

Any place my friend Aikau takes me too, I don’t have much free time but he always shows me fantastic places.
