Lindsay Dedeaux: Dedicated to ‘Volunteerism and Service’ Originally from Fulton, Miss., State Farm agent Lindsay Dedeaux and her family relocated to Vicksburg in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and immediately went to work to display a commitment to one of the qualities she tries most to embody: dedication. “I have a very dedicated team; I’m very dedicated myself,” she said. “I am ambitious and driven, both in my community, home life, and work life. I thrive on challenge and constantly set goals for myself, so I can have something to strive towards. I am not comfortable with settling, I am always looking for an opportunity to do better and achieve greatness in and around my community.” And in only three-and-a-half years, Lindsay and her team at the State Farm office on Thalweg Drive have made quite the mark on the Vicksburg community. “I started my insurance career with Alfa Insurance back in 2014,” Lindsay said of her journey to Vicksburg. “I got recruited by State Farm and went to work with them there in Fulton.” Lindsay said it didn’t take long before working her way up through the company’s ranks opened the door for her family to set up their own office in Vicksburg, an opportunity she says was both exciting and scary. “We were uprooting everything we’d ever known. My kids, all they had ever known was Fulton. My husband and I had a deep conversation. We have no family around. So, we had to do a lot of soul searching, but we came into Vicksburg. In October of 2020, we actually moved here. It was a leap of faith, but I’m glad we did.” Lindsay, whose husband Derek works remotely for the office, said her family has been hard at work since that time trying to better the community through service efforts that are evident through her office’s yearly inclusion in the ranks of the Best of the Best. “We take a real honor on that,” she said. “And that’s not just me, but my team as a whole, because I couldn’t do it without my team.”

Lindsay Dedeaux has been named the 2023 Woman of the Year in The Vicksburg Post’s annual Best of the Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
Lindsay says volunteerism and service are at the heart of everything she tries to accomplish, both in business and in everyday life. “I was motivated to pursue a career as an insurance agent because I wanted to help people protect their financial well-being and assets,” she said. “I enjoy building relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs, and finding the right insurance solutions for them. I’ve always been interested in helping people and making sure they are protected. Passion and dedication are two words that best describe my office; being the key to provide a real solution to what may seem like an impossible situation. So, it’s great to have those one-on-one conversations. I love meeting people and building those relationships. I love being dedicated to my customers.” But the dedication Lindsay stresses doesn’t stop when she leaves her office. She currently sits on the board of the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce, is Party Chairman for the Miss Mississippi Scholarship organization - based in Vicksburg, and is on the Youth Services Committee for the Vicksburg Kiwanis Club. “That was one of the things that really sparked my interest about Vicksburg, because I’ve been in pageantry since I was four weeks old,” Lindsay said of the Miss Mississippi organization. “It’s something I’ve always done and I would come here every year, just about, to see Miss Mississippi.” Lindsay’s office is involved annually with a host of community projects, including creating fire prevention kits for local fire departments, back-to-school drives to compile school supplies for those in need, and a Cinco De Mayo event she organizes in conjunction with Keller Williams Realty and local restaurants to help feed local police and firefighters. All of her community activities, both work-related and otherwise, Lindsay says, happen for the same reasons she chose to help others through insurance - a dedication to people.

Kade Oldenburg focused on giving back to hometown Kade Oldenburg took less than a decade doing business in Vicksburg before being named Man of the Year in the annual Best of the Best Readers’ Choice Awards, but he says he has spent a lifetime preparing to give back to his hometown. “I was born and raised here in Vicksburg,” Kade said.“My parents are from here.The only time I have left Vicksburg is when my wife and I went to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.We both went to college up there.” A 2012 graduate of Warren Central High School, Kade said he majored in agricultural business before returning home and opening his Alfa Insurance office on Pemberton Square Boulevard. “My dad owns Vicksburg Body Shop in town,” he explained.“So, I grew up around family owned business and just saw how much he enjoyed it. Insurance never really crossed my mind until the last semester of college. I was home for Christmas break and mom mentioned something.We have a family friend that was an Alfa agent. So, I went and sat down with him and he helped me get my foot in the door.” Kade and now-wife Chandler graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2017, before moving home, where both have begun businesses in Vicksburg. “We moved back and opened up what we called a scratch agency, just meaning that I just started from scratch with no clients; just started from zero,” Kade said.“Several years later, we moved over here on Pemberton, in the spring of 2020. Been in it coming up on seven years now.” Meanwhile, Kade said his wife purchased and opened Oldenburg Family Dentistry, adding both find owning and operating a
hometown business to be a privilege. “With insurance, it is very challenging, but it really, really is rewarding,” he said.“Because you get to be that first point of contact for people during, a lot of times, their most difficult times. Sometimes it’s just minor. It can be anything like a fender bender, and a lot of times it’s something major like a house fire or the death of a loved one. So, you get to be there during those difficult times and help people put the pieces back together. So, it really does involve you in your community.” But Kade said the day-to-day interactions with customers can be just as important. “We have a ton of customers that still come into the office on a daily basis, so we have a relationship with all of those customers and get to sit down and visit with them.” Outside of the office, both Kade and Chandler are active in the community “She is a member of the Kiwanis Club, the JA, being Junior Auxiliary,” he said.“And we are both very active members of Triumph Church in Vicksburg.” Additionally, Kade sits on the board for the National Wildlife Turkey Federation and the Advisory Council for Alfa Insurance, and is involved in annual charity events. On the local level, he says he tries to keep his business as involved as possible with yearly events as well. “We try to do a customer-appreciation event once a year,” he said.“This year, around Christmas, we had Santa come in and had a professional photographer so the public could come and the kids could take pictures. And that turned out really well.” In addition to business and community responsibilities, Kade and Chandler welcomed their first child - a daughter, Blaire - in July.
