VFW STATEMENT ON ORLANDO SHOOTING TWO ARMY RESERVISTS HAVE NOW BEEN IDENTIFIED

Originally posted on VFW.org on June 17, 2016

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. is extending its heartfelt condolences to all the families of the dead and wounded from the horrific shooting early Sunday morning at a nightclub in Orlando, Fla., by an alleged radicalized religious extremist. Included among the murdered were two members of the Army Reserve. Identified today was Spc. Angel CandelarioPadro, 28, who served in the Puerto Rico National Guard from January 2006 to 2012 before transferring to the U.S. Army Reserve. Identified earlier this week was Capt. Antonio Davon Brown, 30, who had deployed to Kuwait from April 2010 to March 2011. “No words can adequately express the grief and compassion the nation feels for the victims and their loved ones,” said VFW National Commander John A. Biedrzycki Jr., “just as there are no words that can adequately express the anger we feel toward those who bring war to our shores.”

It’s been a very busy month here at Post 2093. We have had quite a bit going on and I would like to personally thank the members that have volunteered to help get some things done around the Post. Most of the building is painted and the landscape is flourishing. We have not gotten as many members to volunteer as I would like to see but all I can do is ask and hope that some of you can find time to help out. We are having our Independence Day celebration on the 3rd of July and hope to have a good crowd. We will have plenty to eat and drink and a bounce house/water slide for the kids to enjoy. We still need a couple of Post members to help out getting the meat shredded and food tables setup and ready for everyone to enjoy. So please sign up to help out and make the job easier for those that always volunteer.

My door is always open and anyone that has something they wish to discuss, please feel free to contact me. I still work, sometimes more than 50 hours a week, but you can reach me by phone. If you don't already have my number the canteen has it as well as all of the Post officers. If i do not answer immediately I will call you back as soon as I am able. If you have a problem with something and don't want to call me, my office door has a mail slot where you can drop a note anytime and I will get back with you as early as possible. Happy Independence Day!

Russell Carpenter - Go Army!

Chaplain’s Corner Thought for the day! He who angers you conquers you. We lost a great member this month—Harry Wright. Even though Harry was not a Post member, he was a member of our Honor Guard, Past Men's Auxiliary President and, most recently, a member of the Auxiliary. Harry was very active in our Post for many years and was well liked. Our prayers go to his family and many friends for the loss of a wonderful man. May he rest in peace. Harry, You are missed. There will be a Celebration of Life for Harry on July 10th at 2:30 PM. Bingo has recently started back in the large hall and they need the help of Post and Auxiliary members to work it to make this a success. We all benefit by working together.

Support your newly elected officers, they were your choices. stand behind them and help out wherever you can. Congratulations to Russ and Gary on receiving All State Status at convention. They worked hard for this achievement in gaining new members. A JOB WELL DONE! Wear your White Hats proudly. Gary has done a tremendous amount of work around the Post. When you see him, please thank him. A lot of the work that has been done would not have been done if not for Gary and he deserves our appreciation. Please put yourself in his shoes and govern yourself accordingly. Working together would get a lot more accomplished. On the same note a thank you goes out to Doris Continued on page 7

From the Auxiliary President’s Desk Greetings to all! I want to take a moment to welcome new and returning officers. I look forward to a wonderful year working together to accomplish our goals of helping our veterans. The Post has started Bingo again in the large hall. The Auxiliary will receive one week of the profits earned instead of one game weekly as it used to be. There has been confusion on this. The Auxiliary is not working and receiving nothing. The Post bought the machine and all supplies. We bought nothing. But we voted to help each week in order to receive the one week. Our week is the third week of the month. It takes four to six people each week to work this venture. So please sign up with either myself or Kathy Godard to help by selling, calling Bingo or verifying. This is the Post and Auxiliary working together. Show your support.

The Auxiliary Bingo in the canteen on Saturday is going well, but we still need callers and sellers. Please sign up to help on this. It is our biggest fundraiser. Without help we simply cannot do it. Four people are needed weekly. July 25th is the 85th anniversary of our Auxiliary. We will have a celebration of this on Sunday July 24th beginning at 2 PM. The band "STEELE" has been booked for this event. Please sign up to help out with the sides. Meat will be provided by the Auxiliary. Come and join us for this Awesome event. Please see Chrissy Campbell to sign up for sides, she is chairing this event. On Another note - Remember leave your negative comments outside the Post door. It does not promote good morale within our club. Negative idle talk starts rumors and hurts people’s feelings. Post and Auxiliary business is not to be discussed at the bar. Please remember this. We are all here for the same goals and that is for our VETERANS. Working together will get things done easier and more efficiently. Unfortunately, our newly elected Guard has given his resignation beginning with the August meeting. We will be electing a new officer for this position at our July meeting. If you’re interested in this office, please let someone nominate you. On a sad note I am sorry to say we have lost one of our members recently - Harry Wright. He was always there to help when needed. He was a very kind and giving soul. Harry, you will be missed deeply. May he rest in peace. There will be a Celebration of Life on July 10th at 2:30 PM in big hall. As many of you know Annie Manasco was also called to her heavenly home. Annie was a faithful bingo player on Saturdays. She would always bring in the coupons for our Veterans to be sent overseas. May she also rest in peace. You are missed deeply, Annie. Sorry for those who did not make the State Convention. It was a lot of fun and very informative. We received "Medallion Status" as well as other certificates. It took each one of us working together to make this goal, so thank you and please continue to bring in new members. It is very important to our Auxiliary to keep building. Reporting is very important. Please, if you do something for a veteran as simple as taking them to a grocery store or doctor appointment, it is reportable. Please write the hours down and turn in to me. It helps us achieve our goals for recognition. Your New Officer Lineup is printed on page 2 of this newsletter. Each one of these people is here to help should you need it. Again I ask each of you to work together as a family. Not against each other. Together we get things done. Thank you for your support in electing me once again as your President. I will work very diligently for you and with you. I look forward to yet another year of obtaining our goals TOGETHER. Respectfully Submitted, Jani Ramsey—Lifetime Member Proudly Serving as your Auxiliary President—The Auxiliary Post 2093 6

Birkinbine for her persistence in getting the grant and work done from Home Depot. Our Post looks so much better than before. We still have a little bit to do so lets work together and get this done. Elections are just around the corner, so when you cast that vote make sure you are casting a vote for the better of our country. Right now our country does not belong to us, we need to take it back and get on the right track to make it AMERICA once again. BE PROUD OF IT.

Pray for our men and women fighting daily overseas to ensure our freedom here . May Godspeed them safely home to families and friends left behind. If you know of anyone in the hospital or rehab center, please let me know so that I may visit or make a call to them. Also let me know of anyone that has gone to their heavenly home. You can reach me by calling the Post at 407-296-2502 or my home number, 407-629-5808. Proudly serving as your Chaplain Post 2093. Sam Ramsey Lifetime Member 7
