urante los últimos 20 años, la economía venezolana ha sido impactada por una gran cantidad de factores que han cambiado radicalmente el tamaño, presencia y operatividad de las empresas. Nadie escapa de los complejos temas relacionados con la caída del PIB, la hiperinflación y el efecto de las políticas cambiarias y monetarias, así como el cambio del patrón de consumo del venezolano, la diáspora o los efectos de la globalización. Estos factores junto a los nuevos análisis de riesgo, las políticas comerciales o los aspectos geopolíticos recientes han generado un proceso de cambio y transformación en las empresas que hoy forman parte del empresariado venezolano. Desde 1998, la Cámara Venezolano-Americana de Comercio e Industria, Venamcham, ha presentado un compendio de las empresas que hacen vida en el país, a través de lo que se ha convertido Venezuela. Por ello en esta edición de Business Venezuela les presentamos el resultado de la Vigésima Edición de la encuesta Top 100 Companies de 2018. Muchos han sido los cambios del panorama empresarial en Venezuela: empresas han cerrado o disminuido sus operaciones; se ha reducido la oferta de productos y servicios a nivel nacional; el consumidor venezolano se ha visto obligado a ajustar sus compras ante una compleja realidad y todo esto enmarcado en un

hroughout the past 20 years Venezuela’s economy has been impacted by a large number of factors that have radically changed the size, presence and operation capacity of companies. Nobody is unscathed by the complex topics relating to the drop in the GDP, hyperinflation and the effect of foreign exchange and monetary policies as well as the changes in the consumption patterns of the Venezuelans, the diaspora or the effects of globalization. These factors, jointly with the new risk analyses, trade policies or recent geopolitical aspects, have generated a process of change and transformation in the companies that nowadays comprise the Venezuelan corporate sector. Since 1998, Venamcham, the Venezuelan-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has presented a compilation of the companies doing business in the nation in the current scenario of what Venezuela has become. For this reason, in this issue of Business Venezuela we present the results of the Twentieth Edition of the 2018 Top 100 Companies survey. There have been many changes in the corporate panorama in Venezuela: companies have shut down or have diminished their operations; the offer of products and services nationwide has shrunk; Venezuelan consumers have been forced to adjust their spending in light of a complex reality, all within an ever-shifting regulatory framework. Despite this situation, many companies have decided to carry on and move forward, adapting to the market, implementing operational changes and understanding the new needs of the consumers. That is why we are pleased today to present you the 2018 Top 100 Companies survey in which we continue to see a private sector committed to the nation and its people.
