In a departure for Spiegelworld, the mastermind behind “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace and “Atomic Saloon Show” at The Venetian, the new “DiscoShow” (and companion restaurant Diner Ross) at The Linq Hotel is an immersive experience with no seating during the production. Get ready to disco for 70 minutes!
The two performances I’ve attended included drag icon Eureka O’Hara as party leader, and it has been announced that the legendary Coco Montrese of Las Vegas and Tamisha Iman will alternate in the lead role with O’Hara. With dance music, colorful costumes and a game cast of characters, “DiscoShow” is a super-fun time.
If dancing isn’t for you, you can still enjoy the incredible acrobatic and circus acts of “Absinthe,” with a big dose of dirty humor, and the bawdy and sexy acts and humor of “Atomic Saloon Show,” with a big dose of dirty humor. Fun fact: Colin Cahill performs in “Atomic Saloon Show” and “DiscoShow.” He’s Blue Jackson, the sexy cowboy, in “Atomic Saloon Show.”

MENUS Follows the
Yellow
Brick Road to Sahara in Annual Fundraiser
The Hospitality Charitable Foundation, formerly the Epicurean Charitable Foundation, hosted its largest annual fundraiser of the year, MENUS, on Friday, Sept. 27, at Azilo Pool at Sahara Las Vegas.
Guests were decked out in green and gold for “The Emerald City” theme complete with a living yellow brick road, Glenda the Good Witch in pink, another witch in a plastic bubble, live music in Azilo and the port-cochere of Sahara and food and beverage vendors galore.
The it’s-still-hot-AF-in-autumn-in-LasVegas outdoor MENUS was overseen by HCF Executive Director Melissa Arias, and BMX racer and TV personality Ricardo Laguna and Las Vegas Strip headliners Murray Sawchuck and Dani Sawchuck were among the hundreds of guests.
The annual event, one of the dinearound and entertainment highlights of the year, raises funds for deserving college students, providing full-ride scholarships inclusive of lab and book fees. Students serve as volunteers at MENUS and other HCF events and programming.
The fundraising event MENUS has ended, but you can still support HCF year round – and plan for next year’s sure-to-be fabulous event.

After a successful seven-year run in its hometown of Long Beach, Calif., the convergence conference ComplexCon, where style, sneakers, pop culture, music, art, culinary and more mix and mingle, is heading to Las Vegas from Nov. 16-17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall. Headlined next month by Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, ComplexCon is a pioneering force behind festival culture curating the very best in style, music, art and food. Additional announced guests include Metro Boomin, Cactus Jack, Opium and OOCactus – with more most certain to come.
Resorts World Las Vegas, Zouk Group Las Vegas and ComplexCon celebrated their official partnership in the festival on the Las Vegas Strip with a sneak peek VIP dinner, with food and libations from next-door Fuhu, at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World.

Complex CEO Aaron Levant and Resorts World CMO and Zouk Group Las Vegas VP Ronn Nicolli offered an inside look into what to expect for this year’s festival and shared their excitement in the partnership. One unique takeaway from the exclusive event: A gold suitcase with a set of poker chips inside.
Zouk Group Las Vegas has been innovative and smart in transforming the nightclub, when it’s not in use for nightlife, into a restaurant and recently a fashion show runway for swimwear – and in December an activation for the annual National Finals Rodeo.
The Eagles Are Soaring With Shows at Sphere in Las Vegas
When The Eagles completed its “Long Goodbye” jaunt earlier in the year, it marked the end of touring for the legendary band. However, The Eagles announced a 20-date residency at Sphere, which kicked off Sept. 20 and runs through Jan. 25.
The iconic group, which is vocalist-drummer Don Henley, vocalist-guitarist Joe Walsh, bassist Timothy B. Schmit, vocalist-guitarist Vince Gill and vocalist-guitarist Deacon Frey, son of the late Eagle Glenn Frey, still nail it as a live act.
While delivering a set full of hits at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., in 2023, The Eagles impressed with their lovely harmonies, interplay and humorous banter. The Eagles, who have sold more than 150 million albums during a storied career, hit with songs that are beyond familiar.
“Hotel California,” “Take It Easy,” “New Kid in Town,” “Life in the Fastlane” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” are the soundtrack of many fans’ lives. The two-hour-plus set also features singles from the solo careers of Henley and Walsh.
Gill seems ecstatic while performing for good reason. The incredibly affable country star/ guitar wizard is finally part of a legendary rock band. During a 2015 interview, Gill detailed the most difficult decision he had to make during his enviable career.
During the mid-1980s, Gill was a struggling singer-songwriter with a seemingly bleak future. Mark Knopfler asked Gill to join Dire Straits as a guitarist. “That would have solved everything financially,” Gill said.
“It was an amazing opportunity. I would have been able to play guitar with one of the greatest guitarists ever. Who would pass up an opportunity like that?” But Gill said thanks but no thanks. “I couldn’t accept it because it would be admitting failure,” Gill said. “If I didn’t believe in me, who would believe in me?”
Gill certainly made the right move. Meantime, Deacon Frey is more than capable and possesses a voice that is uncannily like his father. There are no dates after Jan. 25 for The Eagles. Could this be the swan song for the band who has declared this is the end of the long run?
Regardless, the Sphere shows are certain to be special since The Eagles have one of the greatest canons in rock history, and the band can still deliver live. There has never been a band quite like The Eagles, who have endured during a 52year run that has sometimes been tumultuous but incredibly productive
“The Eagles: Live in Concert at Sphere” remaining dates: Friday, Nov. 1, Saturday, Nov. 2, Friday, Nov. 8 Saturday, Nov. 9

of ‘Fantasy’ at The Luxor: ‘Dance became the heartbeat of my life’
My parents had no choice but to put me in dance classes – I just couldn’t stop performing. While other kids were out riding bikes or playing with friends, I was dancing around the living room, performing full concerts for my stuffed animals.
At restaurants, waiting for a table meant an impromptu show for anyone around, as I sang and danced for hungry people waiting for their food. For me, the stage has always been anywhere I could move, and I’ve never stopped. Dance became the heartbeat of my life, shaping not only my career but also my whole life.
Growing up, with the help from my parents, I was immersed in dance, studying tap, jazz and ballet from an early age. I was in every choir, every church play – I even participated in a children’s pop group that performed at local fairs. If it meant performing, you could sign me up!
By age 10, I was dancing 40 hours a week and competing every weekend from March to July. Later, I pursued my professional training at Oklahoma City University, where I graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and laying the foundation for my career in dance.
By 22, Las Vegas was calling my name. At 5’11,” I knew there was a market for tall, leggy dancers, and I was
determined to find my place. On my very first full day here, I auditioned and booked my first show, a moment that solidified my decision to move.
After a year, I joined the cast of “Fantasy,” where I was fortunate to be surrounded by powerful female leadership. “Fantasy,” at The Luxor, provided an unusual but incredible opportunity for me to work through the ranks.
I started as a dancer, and I was then given more responsibilities and became the production manager, until last September, when I was promoted to my current role as performance director.
Today, I not only teach and maintain the integrity of the show, but I also serve as an advocate for the dancers and as the eyes and ears for our fabulous and inspiring producer, Anita Mann.
I’m still living my dream, performing every night in “Fantasy.” While the stage will always be my first love, I’ve discovered a new passion in helping others shine – finding their strengths and amplifying them.
In my own way, I’m contributing to the legacy of a show that has dazzled audiences for the past 25 years and am proud to be a part of the “Fantasy” family.

Entertainment on Sept. 7 hosted a dusk-to-dawn party to celebrate the world premiere of “DiscoShow” and its adjoining restaurant Diner Ross at The Linq Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.
The red carpet was rolled out along the Strip, leading hundreds of guests through the velvet rope to a small door and then a mirror-tiled entryway at the new address of disco heaven: 3535 Las Vegas Blvd. Guests dutifully dressed to party in “1970-fine,” and Sept. 7 was Gloria “I Will Survive” Gaynor’s 81st birthday.
Once inside the multilayered night world, “DiscoShow” offered two playful bars, Diner Ross and an interactive show in the main club that puts guests in the center of a disco celebration. “DiscoShow” attendees were catapulted into myriad itineraries through downtown New York City.
The night’s first stop was 99 Prince, a gritty New York subway platform where Spiegelworld Executive Beverage Director Niko Novick honors classic cocktails from New York’s greatest bars in the early 2000s. Upstairs, they entered Glitterloft, a raw industrial space inspired by the DIY, found-objects aesthetic of disco pioneer David Mancuso’s legendary parties at The Loft. More than 5,000 balloons filled the space in honor of Mancuso’s signature party décor.
Before and after the night’s two performances of “DiscoShow,”
guests dined at Diner Ross. Spiegelworld Impresario Extraordinaire Ross Mollison said at the Saturday celebration, “This is the beginning of a Las Vegas party that will not only go all night long tonight, but also for years to come.
“In fact, it started in 1970, and we all simply fell in love with the idea of keeping it going. It’s disco. After years of development, months of construction, weeks of rehearsals and previews and many hours of kitchen and cocktail tastings, we are ready to share our love of disco with everybody. It’s what we all need right now.”
The 9:30 p.m., or second, show was led by “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Eureka O’Hara, a drag queen who stands out at 6’4 without heels, as she ushered partygoers into the main club for 70 minutes of disco dancing, dance instructions, music and a colorful and diverse cast of characters who kept the party going.
(For “RuPaul’s Drag Race” fans, they’ll be excited to learn that Tamisha Iman and Las Vegas’s own Coco Montrese have been announced to alternate O’Hara’s party ringleader role.)
The audience is on its feet dancing the entire time as the center of a disco celebration. A return to “DiscoShow” three weeks later was even more fun because partygoers were ready to spread good vibes only, have a fun night out and dance without inhibitions – as if nobody was watching. Dance, dance, dance!
Spiegelworld brought together stage shape-makers for “DiscoShow”: Steven Hoggett, director; Yasmine Lee, choreographer + associate director; Michael Wynne, writer; David Zinn, set + costume design; Jamie Siegel, music production; Colle Bustin, sound design; Tom Gibbons, sound associate; Darrel Maloney, production + video design; and Brittany Hartman, hair + wig design.
As he had promised, Mollison was on hand at 4 a.m. to cook pancakes in Diner Ross. Saturday’s party officially added a third Las Vegas show to Spiegelworld’s lineup, joining “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace and “Atomic Saloon Show” at The Venetian, and its second restaurant after Superfrico at The Cosmopolitan.
Upcoming in Vegas Prime Magazine: A Q+A with Mollison and the 411 on Diner Ross. Now dance, I said: Dance!
‘Absinthe’ Is (Still) One of the Best Shows on the Las Vegas Strip
By Don Chareunsy
Spiegelworld’s debut and OG production “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace celebrated its 13th anniversary in April, and it remains of the best and unforgettable headliner shows on the Las Vegas Strip. I remember the grand opening like it was yesterday, and I have attended numerous performances over the years.
I’ve been the victim of cast members on more than one occasion, and it’s always been in fun – envelope-pushing and raunchy fun. The incredible acts have rotated and changed in 13 years, and they’re always interesting and never boring. But one character remains constant: The filthy rich and filthy The Gazillionaire.
A return Sept. 25 was practically an entirely new show, save The Gazillionaire. Penny Pibbets was now Wanda Widdles. There was a female acrobatic troupe! But one thing remained constant: The 9:30 p.m. audience was into it, a game crowd of “divorced Dads,” a Kohl’s polo-clad tourist and a man in pajamas.
At the anniversary show in April, Spiegelworld Impresario Extraordinaire Ross Mollison, as his business card says, entertained guests in the Pier 17 Yacht Club, the new speakeasy bar hidden inside The Green Fairy Garden that surrounds the “Absinthe” tent. The raunchy show and fun must go on.
Mollison told guests, “It’s been 14 years since I first met then-President of Caesars Palace Gary Selesner, who gave Spiegelworld a shot at creating a new show on this hallowed fake Las Vegas turf. … Without the belief and support of Gary, we would have never opened and certainly never survived. …
“And here we stand, 13 years later, by all accounts a bigger hit than ever. Congratulations to everybody who makes ‘Absinthe’ happen every night of the year. … I love Vegas. I love our Caesars Entertainment partners who take a punt on us, including the incredible Tom Reeg, Anthony Carano and Regional President the devilishly handsome Sean McBurney. And I especially love Gary Selesner.”
Selesner died at age 71 on Sept. 9. “Absinthe” is one of the many legacies he left behind, and Caesars’s longest-serving president should be most proud.
‘Atomic Saloon Show’: Welcome to the Bawdy and Sexy Wild Wild West
By Don Chareunsy
Spiegelworld’s “Atomic Saloon Show” is a rowdy, raunchy riot of drop-dead sexy circus, variety and comedy mayhem at The Venetian, and it celebrated its fifth anniversary on Oct. 12 with the grand opening of its appropriately named venue The Cow Hide.
Set inside the real-life Atomic Saloon and starring sultry and talented cowboys, showgirls, lawmen, nuns and ne’er do wells, “Atomic Saloon Show” is a racy, ridiculous romp through the Wild Wild West as it never was – with a heaping dose of bawdiness, sex appeal and laugh-outloud humor.
“Atomic Saloon Show” is high-energy and unhinged fun from start to finish, and a return visit on Sept. 26 was proof that the show is as sexy and wild as ever. Yee-haw! Post-show fun: We ran into three cast members, in the parking garage elevator, hailing from Australia, Germany and Ireland – a global cast of talented and sex women and men.
The talented Colin Cahill, alongside fantastic castmates, shines in his sexy cowboy role as Blue Jackson that showcases his great voice, acting, dancing and charisma. Cahill also is part of the cast of the new Spiegelworld show “DiscoShow” at The Linq Hotel portraying Åke Blumqvist, who offers hilarious dance instructions.
Spiegelworld arrived on the Las Vegas Strip in 2011 with “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace, ranked “the #1 greatest show in Las Vegas history” by a Las Vegas publication. Since then, Spiegelworld opened, and then closed, “Opium” at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and debut “DiscoShow” at The Linq in September.

It certainly wasn’t an urgent matter for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when it came to inducting Foreigner into its hallowed halls.
“We waited 23 years to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” keyboardist Al Greenwood said. “They finally recognized our band. It’s like getting a lifetime achievement award.”
Foreigner is set to be inducted into the Rock Hall on Oct. 19, and the band will celebrate by performing Oct. 25-Nov. 9 at The Venetian on its “Feels Like the Last Time” Tour.
It’ll be a special event since Greenwood, an original member, and bassist Rick Wills, who was with Foreigner from 1979 to 1991, will perform with the band. “The shows in Las Vegas will be something special,” Wills said.
Greenwood and Wills will perform during the encore. “We’ll be happy to play whatever Kelly wants us to play,” Wills said. “We’re very excited to be performing in Las Vegas.”
Wills is referring to vocalist Kelly Hanson, who said that 2024 would be the final year for Foreigner during a 2023 chat with yours truly.
“You can only bounce around like that for so long,” Hanson said. “That kind of performance takes a toll on your body. I’m an acoustic instrument onstage, and so is the drummer (Chris Frazier).
“When you do what we do, there’s a lot of wear and tear on your body parts. Everyone and their brother wants me to continue, but I’ve had enough.”
However, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction is propelling the band forward. “This was going to be the farewell tour,” Wills said.
“But that’s apparently not going to be the case now. There are plans for shows next year, and Al and I will be joining the band on a more regular basis. It’s a new thing since we were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
Why stop now since fans are clamoring to experience the many Foreigner hits? “Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold as Ice,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent,” “Juke Box Hero,” “I Want to Know What Love Is” and “Dirty White Boy” are some of the tunes penned by guitarist Mick Jones and original singer Lou Gramm that charted.
“There are so many great songs that you wonder why we weren’t inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier,” Greenwood said. “But Foreigner is going in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now, and we’re coming to Las Vegas.”

Since the release of Erasure’s debut album “Wonderland,” the duo (Bell with keyboardist Vince Clarke) has sold more than 20 million albums (with five of them hitting the U.K.’s No. 1 spot) and have amassed 17 Top 10 U.K. singles. Their hits include “A Little Respect,” “Sometimes,” “Chains of Love” and “Always.”
Following their success and being named Best British Group at The Brit Awards, Bell embarked on a solo career, writing and recording two solo albums – “Electric Blue” (2005) and “Non-Stop” (2010). In 2014, Bell topped the Billboard Dance Charts with “Aftermath (Here We Go),” a collaboration with Dave Audé.
Bell has collaborated with artists including British Electric Foundation, Jake Shears, Claudia Brücken, Perry Farrell and Shelter and is a respected remixer, working with artists including Yazoo, Goldfrapp and Sandra Bernhardt. Bell is working on new solo material and new Erasure music with Clarke.
Bell chatted over Zoom ahead of his Oct. 26 date and said fans can expect many Erasure hits in his solo show. He doesn’t perform in Las Vegas very much; I last saw him with Clarke at Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort in 2014.
I asked Bell about the importance of queer representation in music and pop culture.
“We have a ways to go because it’s still an issue for people. It’s a shame, but I’m glad I came out when I did. Nowadays, it’s all-consuming. Everybody has to live their lives in public like it’s a live diary,” Bell said.
“When I came out, it was pre-Internet, so we had a lot of privacy. I was able to live my life like a person. For these younger people, the pressure is tremendous, but my hat goes off to them because they live truly and openly.”
And I asked Bell to tell me something people would be surprised to learn about him. “I used to be a butcher, so you better watch out!”

Three-time Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum artist Maxwell’s “The Serenade 2024 North American Tour” brings him to PH Live at Planet Hollywood on Saturday, Oct. 26, and two-time Grammy-winning R&B powerhouse Jazmine Sullivan and rising singer-songwriter October London will be joining him on the 25+ date tour.
Meet-and-greet and VIP ticket packages are available for all tour dates, and tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com. “The Serenade Tour” follows Maxwell’s recent years of touring, which saw him embark on the 2022 “Night Tour” with Anthony Hamilton and Joe, a sold-out 25-date international arena run that was included in Pollstar’s 2022 list of Top 20 Global Concert Tours.
The R&B legend last year performed sold-out symphony dates at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall (accompanied by the San Francisco Symphony), Wynn’s Encore Theater in Las Vegas and Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center (accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra).
The Kennedy Center dates were a return to the venue since Maxwell’s record-breaking 2019 symphony run. His prolific performances included a three-night engagement at Hollywood Bowl, which Billboard described as “rapturous” and a showcase of “Maxwell’s still-supple tenor and hypnotizing falsetto.”
In February, Maxwell took to the seas for the romantic, star-studded Urban Hang Suite Cruise. The four-night sold-out ocean cruise, which featured performances by Maxwell and guests, treated attendees to a romantic weekend aboard the Norwegian Pearl, stopping at Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau in The Bahamas.
Maxwell’s return-to-the-road “The Serenade Tour” marks a reunion with Sullivan, who joined him on his “Maxwell 08 Tour.”
Tears for Fears to Perform Three Shows at
Fontainebleau
By Ed Condran
When Sting opened his Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace in October 2021, the legendary singer-songwriter revealed to the capacity crowd the advice he received before taking the stage. Sting was told to just play the hits. “All I’ve ever written were the bleeping hits,” Sting cracked.
Tears for Fears understands and will deliver the familiar when the iconic duo plays a residency Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 and 2 at BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Expect fan favorites such as “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Shout,” “Head Over Heels,” “Sowing the Seeds of Love” and “Mad World.”
However, vocalist-guitarist Roland Orzabal, 63, and vocalist-bassist Curt Smith, 63, are always good for a deep cut and new material since the band has never been a nostalgia act. The tandem is compelled to create fresh tunes.
“We have to write about something,” Smith said. “We never wanted to be this legacy band playing the hits. We weren’t comfortable with that. We want to say something. We have a desire to get better and make that perfect album.”
Tears for Fears were always ambitious, and the result has been provocative, well-constructed songs. Much like Depeche Mode and New Order, Tears for Fears emerged out of the United Kingdom during the 1980s with challenging synth-pop.
Tears for Fears remains relevant by crafting solid new albums such as 2022’s “The Tipping Point” with eclectic and catchy songs. “ ‘The Tipping Point’ is a brilliant album and a nod and a wink to our old material,” Orzabal said. “We always want to do something a little bit shocking. Wait until you hear the next one.”
Tears for Fears plans on recording a new album after the act finishes its Las Vegas run. Orzabal and Smith are inspired as they enter their twilight years. “It’s interesting writing now,” Smith said. “Your viewpoint changes as you get older. You tend to be more objective about things.”
Orzabal and Smith are enjoying touring now more than during their early days. Smith rolled his eyes when recalling 1985’s “Songs From the Big Chair Tour.” Tears for Fears broke through the stratosphere and were all over MTV and the radio after tunes such as the infectious “Shout” scaled the charts.
“The ‘Songs From the Big Chair Tour’ was not enjoyable at all,” Smith recalled. “It was always fun performing. But our record company got us up every morning to do radio interviews. We were always out there shaking hands and kissing babies after our shows.
“We were always doing interviews on the road, and that’s why we’re doing this interview now. We want to enjoy the road. We want to enjoy Las Vegas when we play there.”

A SUNDAY DRIVE FOR SUNDAY CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH IN PRIMM
My brother Charles, our friends Ben Stone and Jasmine Trias and I carpooled to Buffalo Bill’s in Primm for the opening weekend of the new Sunday Champagne Brunch on Aug. 11. Yes, the Buffalo Bill’s at Exit 1 on I-15, a convenient stop returning from Southern California or heading out of Las Vegas.
This Sunday drive ended up being a nice and relaxing daytime getaway from the hustle-and-bustle and crowds of the Las Vegas Strip, things that are part of life as longtime residents. Buffalo Bill’s reminds of Frontier Town at Disneyland; it’s rustic, a step back in time and charming.
If there’s a familiarity to Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Buffet, it’s because the executive and culinary team’s resume includes Station Casinos. The chef even lives onsite to devote his time to the buffet. Our unanimous verdict: We enjoyed the Sunday Champagne Brunch, and we would make the Sunday drive again.
Currently, the pricing for Sunday Champagne Brunch is $29.99 + $10.99 for bottomless champagne and mimosas, and Sunday hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. What do you get for this very reasonable pricing by Las Vegas standards? Limitless mimosas and freshly carved prime rib, ham and turkey with all the fixings.
There’s more: A made-to-order omelet station, other classic brunch buffet items and a vast selection of desserts. A highlight: Seasoned and sautéed crab legs flavored with a garlic and herb blend. Is this a Wynn, Bellagio or Caesars Palace buffet? No. Does it need to be? No. There’s room for everyone at the table.
By Don Chareunsy
Post-brunch, we checked out the cool Mob artifacts, event center (Patti LaBelle had headlined that weekend and dined at the buffet), other restaurants and more. This Sunday drive for Sunday Champagne Brunch was just what the doctor ordered, and we’ll return for the great food, friendly service and can’t-beat pricing.

Rock Star Keri Kelli Opening Brewery at The Bend
Keri Kelli has played guitar all his life and is a bonafide rock star who has headlined with bands and artists including Ratt, Slash, Alice Cooper and Night Ranger. Being a rocker is his day job.
He’s a huge craft beer fan and in 2009 with co-owner Ryan Johnson opened Aces & Ales in Southeast Las Vegas at Nellis and Twain after not being able to find the beers he liked when visiting Las Vegas. At the time, it was one of a few craft beer bars in Southern Nevada and would pave the way.
Aces & Ales flourished enough to open a second location in Northwest Las Vegas on Tenaya in 2013, and now its success warrants a third venue, a brewery in Southwest Las Vegas in The Bend at Sunset and Durango.
Set to open in early November, the 9,000-square-foot brewery co-branded Aces & Ales and Evolve Brewing will have an open layout with large windows, bringing natural light and two lounge areas equipped with couches, chairs, pool table, large kid- and pet-friendly patios and stages for live music.
Twenty-four taps will pour 12-14 beers brewed on a 10-barrel system. Initially, as the brewery ramps up its brews, there will be collaboration beers made with local breweries Able Baker, Beer Zombies, Big Dog’s, CraftHaus, HUDL and Juxta Nomad and SoCal California breweries ISM, Societe, Rad Beer Co, Smog City and Mason Ale Works.
Kelli worked with all the brew teams in recipe design, beer style and beer names. Like the other two Aces & Ales, there will be a gastropub with a scratch kitchen serving appetizers, sandwiches and pizzas, but with the addition of steak, chicken and fish entrees with side options.
Big Dog’s Dogtoberfest
Big Dog’s Brewing is a Wisconsin- and dog-themed brewpub and has several beers with canine names like Tail Wagger Wheat and Black Lab Stout, but its annual Dogtoberfest takes it a step further.
Held on Oct. 26 at The Draft House outdoor area from 4-9 p.m., the free admission pay-as-you-go beer fest will offer more than 45 independent craft beers, including 25 from Nevada breweries, live music, specialty food, raffles and giveaways.
In this recurring feature, we spotlight establishments that appreciate our local breweries enough to serve only beer made in Nevada. Las Vegas Distillery in the Henderson Booze District, which recently reopened after a two-year, top-to-bottom renovation, is pouring CraftHaus Silver State Blonde/Golden Ale, CraftHaus Hop Vegas American IPA and Las Vegas Brewing Co. 1677 Irish Dry Stout.
Be sure to check out the new cocktail lounge with an Old Vegas décor and a food menu of artisanal pizzas, charcuterie and cheese boards and spirits distilled onsite including vodka, white rum, coffee liqueur, American single malt and bourbon.
Big Dog’s Marketing & Accounting Director Ceci Moggia says, “Our first Dogtoberfest was held in 2010 and was inspired by Mr. and Mrs. Wiesner’s (founders of Big Dog’s) annual beer and brat party held at their house every fall. Our version combines the great traditions of Oktoberfest celebrations with the charm of an old Wisconsin brat cookout with a dog-friendly twist.”
The twist is an opportunity to enjoy brews with your pup and a human and dog Halloween costume contest. Big Dog’s has hosted more beer fests than any other venue in Southern Nevada with Dogtoberfest marking the brewpub’s 51st beer and music festival.

LAS VEGAS OUTDOORS:
THE BLACK CANYON TRAIL
BY TODD SCHACHERL
The Black Canyon Water Trail was established in 2014 and is nearly 30 miles long going from just down river from Hoover Dam at river mile marker 64 to Eldorado Canyon at river mile marker 39. Along this water trail can be found caves, hot springs, slot canyons and wildlife, including bighorn sheep, bald eagles, turtles and more. Almost every side canyon between the dam and the Arizona Hot Springs has hot water running down it.
BEST TIME TO GO
From October to March are the best times. Of course, going during the summer is possible if you go very early in the morning. There is sort of a cooling effect being on the water, so even when it gets hot, it doesn’t feel as hot as when you get out of the river. Plus, you can always reach into the water and splash some of that 42-degree water on you and your friends to cool down. This is where the super soakers come into play.
SITES ALONG THE WAY
Sauna Cave
This was a test bore, during the construction of the Hoover Dam, into the canyon wall on the Nevada side about a half-mile down river from where you put in. It’s about 150 feet long and is full of hot water. Bring your headlamp because it gets dark toward the end. During the summer, it’s too hot to get very far into the tunnel.
Gold Strike Hot Springs
This canyon has several hot spring pools starting from within a few hundred yards of the river to a mile or two up the canyon. This canyon can also be hiked top down, but that part is closed from May 15 to Sept. 30 due to the heat.
Lone Palm Hot Springs
The lone palm isn’t lonely anymore. There are quite a few of its babies now. The “Lone Palm” is about 50 yards down from a waterfall that drops onto a beach or right into the water depending on how high the river is. The area above the waterfall is an amazing ecological area with water running year-round. Hike to the lone palm and climb a small wall to your left to get access to the area above the waterfall.
Boy Scout Canyon
This canyon is also a popular canyoneering route, but for kayakers, it offers an amazing hike to hot and cold springs. There is one spot where there is very hot water just 10 yards away from very cold water. There is a “raining wall” where water drips down from a wall
and overhanging. There are often pools set up with sandbags, and they are not typically used, so if you are looking for a peaceful place to sit in hot water, this canyon is a good option.
Moonscape Canyon
This is the next canyon down the river on the Nevada side. It also has hot water running down it. It starts by traversing an area that is covered with debris from trees that have been washed down. The debris can be tens of feet deep. This canyon does have an otherworldly feel to it, hence Moonscape Canyon.
White Rock Canyon
This canyon is on the Arizona side right before the Arizona Hot Springs. Many people hike down this canyon from the trailhead at mile marker 4 on US 93. Some people camp in this canyon, but the beach is a bit rocky and not desirable for tents.
Arizona Hot Springs
This is where most people camp when doing an overnight on the river. It has a vault toilet, which usually isn’t in that great of
shape. Some of the best hot springs in the area, if not Nevada, are about a quarter mile up the canyon from the river. There you will come to a 20-foot ladder that takes you up to the pools. The lower pool is the coolest at about 95 degrees. Each pool gets hotter until you get to the top pool, which is often about 114 degrees. These pools can get crowded on the weekends. During the summer, there aren’t as many people, as the trails are oftentimes closed due to the heat. However, the pools are usually washed out from the summer monsoons, making the pools kind of shallow.

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar brought his Cabo-born “Birthday Bash” to Las Vegas for the first time with a weekend-long celebration and two sold-out shows at Palms Casino Resort on Oct. 4-5. Fellow music icon Rick Springfield joined Hagar onstage to sing “I’ve
Done Everything for You” during Friday night’s show at Pearl Concert Theater. The next day, Springfield and his wife Barbara Porter joined Hagar at Sammy’s Island at Palms Pool for “Sammy’s Birthday Splash,” where he presented his friend with a tiki-themed cake.
Jason Sudeikis dined at Lavo in The Palazzo on Oct. 5 with Ryan Ruocco and Rebecca Lobo. They wanted seats near the televisions so they could watch the Yankees/Royals game. They enjoyed the Tomasina cocktails, tableside branzino, a meatball and carbonara.
