I grew up in Helena, Mont., from ages 2 to 18, and it’s why I believe I have an affinity toward cowboys, rodeo and country music – especially Garth Brooks, as I remember listening to him while at Helena High. My late father Cy also was a country fan, and two life highlights are taking him to George Strait and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concerts here. He smiled from ear to ear the entire time.
The 2024 National Finals Rodeo rides into town at the Thomas & Mack Center from Dec. 5-14, and the annual event is wildly popular and often sells out. Country stars are in town, too, among them names you might recognize like George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town, Thomas Rhett, Brad Paisley, Wynonna, Shaboozey, Cody Johnson, Cody Jinks, Midland, Ryan Bingham and more.

Swingers Las Vegas Celebrates Grand Opening With Ceremonial First Putt at Mandalay Bay
Swingers Las Vegas, the adults-only crazy golf club and hospitality experience, opened Nov. 8 at Mandalay Bay. As the largest Swingers destination and global flagship, Swingers offers guests four crazy golf courses, the Swingers Carnival old-school games arcade, food by Emmy Squared Pizza, cocktails and more.
To mark the launch, Co-CEOs and Co-Founders Matt Grech-Smith and Jeremy Simmonds took part in a celebratory first putt. The London-based business partners were joined on the green by Mandalay Bay President and COO Travis Lunn and Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft.
“We believe we’ve created something special over the past decade – mixing the energy of nightlife, the creativity of theater and the nostalgic joy of playing miniature golf and classic carnival games,” Grech-Smith said.
“We were humbled when MGM Resorts invited us to bring Swingers to Las Vegas, so to see it here today is truly spectacular. We could not be prouder to open our doors at Mandalay Bay and transport guests into another world – a world where it’s impossible not to have fun.”
A countdown was projected onto the venue’s centerpiece – a grand English
country house – to commemorate the occasion. Lights, sounds and special effects officially opened Swingers Las Vegas.
Founded in London in 2014, Swingers pioneered the concept of “competitive socializing” and led the revival of “crazy golf.” Reinventing traditional mini golf for a 21+ crowd, Swingers mixes DJs, street food and cocktails served by caddies on the course. The 40,000-square-foot Las Vegas venue boasts a design inspired by an English country estate featuring a country house that transforms through double-height animated projection mapping.
Swingers offers four crazy golf courses on three floors: the Clocktower and Hot Air Balloon at the heart of the venue and the Carousel and Meteorite on the upper level. Guests can enjoy cocktail bars including the Estate and Clubhouse along with highenergy music from Swingers’ resident DJ.
A round of crazy golf starts at $35 per person, and ticket packages are available that include cocktails, street food, crazy golf and reserved seating. Local pricing starts at $22.50 per round for walk-up play Sundays through Wednesdays. Carnival pricing starts at $15 for 80 credits. Tickets are required to play crazy golf but not to enjoy the venue and food and drink options.
Norms Celebrates Grand Opening With Hotcake Eating Contest
Norms Restaurants, a pioneer of classic American dining born and raised in Southern California, celebrated its grand opening Nov. 9 with a ribbon cutting and the World’s First Hotcake Eating Championship.
Building upon its 75-year legacy, Norms Las Vegas, 4605 W. Charleston Blvd., marks the 24th outpost for the 24-hour retro-diner concept, with its signature orange accenting the outlets, and the group’s first restaurant outside California.
In partnership with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and city officials, Norms Las Vegas officially opened its doors after a commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. that included a proclamation from City Councilman Brian Knudsen – and a gift of hot sauce from a neighboring business.
Kicking off at 11 a.m., Norms Las Vegas teamed up with Major League Eating and some of the world’s most competitive eaters on the first-ever World’s First Hotcake Eating Championship.
Competitors included 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champion Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago, Geoff Esper of Boston (ranked
No. 3), James Webb of Sydney, Australia (No. 4), Las Vegas native Derek “Heavy D” Hendrickson (No. 8), top-ranked female competitor Miki Sudo of Tampa and bodybuilder Nick Wehry.
In just 10 minutes, the group of elite eaters raced, at a table on a raised stage, to consume as many Norms Hotcakes as possible to win the championship belt and the total prize purse of $10,000, with $5,000 going to the winner.
The results: Wehry (5th), with 35 hotcakes; Sudo and he are a couple, and he happily flexed for cameras. Sudo (4th), with 36 hotcakes; she said she was disappointed in her results and that the hotcakes are fluffier than pancakes.
Third: Webb (glazed donut champion with 70 in 8 minutes), with 41 hotcakes; he said he needed a nap after the eating contest. Second: a lowkey Esper, with 44 hotcakes. And first, with 46 hotcakes: Bertoletti! Hot dogs? Hotcakes? All the same to him.
Also: The hotcakes at Norms are delicious –with a maximum of two hotcakes and lots of maple syrup.
My name is a nod to perseverance and second chances
SILVIA SILVIA
When an arrow comes flying over me into the apple sitting on top of my head, many might think, “She better not miss!” Or my personal favorite: “She’s not getting a second chance if that goes wrong!”
They might be right, but …
Since I started shooting arrows at myself (and my dear husband, as well) nearly 40 years ago, the correct state of mind, heart and spirit is of upmost importance. I start by always thanking God for each show and all that God does for me and my family.
Additionally, since I am as human as all of you reading this, I am also in need of heavy doses of nerves of steel to face that arrow bolting over my head each show. And this is the point, no pun intended, I want to share with you – that I am Silvia Silvia.
There is a good reason I am called Silvia Silvia since I firmly believe in perseverance and second chances. We human beings are constantly striving to be better at this or that, and failing is an important part of achieving one’s goal. And of course not giving up when you fail, as perseverance is key.
My stage name reminds me, as I hope it can remind my friends and fans, that we all need second chances for learning. We need to often repeat our own names to ourselves. We can say, “Michael Michael, you will be able to do it” and persevere in the good things you are trying to do.
Maybe not in the first try, but you will get it if you learn to persevere and pick yourself up after every error. Rome was not built in a day, nor is your life goal reaching its target on
the first tries, no matter how sharp the head of your arrow is.
In these modern times of fast results and wavering fashions, keep true to yourself and often repeat that beautiful name you have, so you, too, can remember – as I do daily – that we can constantly keep trying to be better.
And not only in our career, but also most importantly in our personal lives. If each day we try to be twice as better as yesterday, what will stop us to multiply those wonderful results in the future. And as a grateful and happy grandmother of seven, I know a thing – or two – about multiple blessings.

New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas – Sphere and Lady Luck
Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas is like stepping into a glittering dream, a dream illuminated by a BIG sparkling disco ball. I am referring to Las Vegas’ very own futuristic interactive disco ball Sphere.
Hold on to your disco balls because for 2024 going into 2025, I’m super excited about the NEW Sphere’s FIRST-EVER EDM SHOW Anyma! This spectacular venue is all about immersive experiences, and I can’t wait to be part of something truly magical.
Imagine ringing in the New Year surrounded by stunning visuals and incredible sound, all while enjoying the electrifying atmosphere that only Las Vegas can offer. Sphere promises to put on a show like no other, and I’m sure it’ll be the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable night with the most fabulous party people.
One of the coolest things about Sphere is the way it brings everyone together for a futuristic night of togetherness and celebration. I can already picture the countdown to midnight, with the entire venue lit up and buzzing with excitement.
Plus, they’ll likely have amazing performances lined up to keep the energy high as we dance the night away. It’s going to be such a vibe, with everyone celebrating new beginnings, sharing laughter and making memories that we’ll cherish forever.
I mean what’s a celebration without LIVE EDM MUSIC in the best technological advancement in entertainment of this millennium?! I can’t even imagine the display they will have in store when the clock strikes midnight.
I can’t wait to feel that rush of joy and hope for the year ahead. Sphere will be the perfect place to reflect on the past year and toast to new adventures. To infinity and beyond!
Bathing under the warm glow of the lucid LED lights, there’s something so special about being in such a vibrant atmosphere as we embrace the New Year together. I just know this celebration will be one for the books, and I can’t wait to share every moment of it.
Lady Luck in Las Vegas
Lady Luck is often depicted as a charming figure who embodies fortune and serendipity, and her origins trace back to the idea that luck can be personified.
Legends say that she emerged during the early days of gambling, when players would whisper their hopes for good fortune to a mysterious woman believed to wander the gaming halls, bestowing luck upon those who treated her kindly.
The earliest evidence of the term “Lady Luck” is from before 1535, in the writings of Thomas More, a humanist, lord chancellor and martyr. The term is a compound of the words lady and luck.
In Las Vegas, her presence is felt everywhere, especially at the tables where gamblers often find that having a lady by their side seems to amplify their chances of hitting the jackpot.
Many players believe that a woman’s energy can attract positive vibes and luck, making their gambling experience even more thrilling.
Whether it’s sharing a laugh, cheering each other on or simply enjoying the excitement together, having a lady around can create an atmosphere of joy and positivity.
Stories abound of couples hitting it big at the blackjack tables or slots, saying that Lady Luck herself was smiling down on them that night.
So, when you're in Las Vegas, bring along a special lady to enhance your luck – it might just lead to an unforgettable night of winning!

George Strait, Chris Stapleton
Setting venue attendance records across seven stadium shows in the summer of 2023, country music icon George Strait and eight-time Grammy-winner Chris Stapleton continued the excitement into 2024.
Strait will supersize his longstanding “Strait to Vegas” show when the tour makes a stop in Las Vegas to mark the 37th installment of the engagement at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 7.
just makes us want to keep bringing them more,” Strait said. “I’ve also missed performing in Las Vegas during NFR, so I’m happy to see that show come together in 2024. See you soon!”
And returning alongside the beloved King of Country and Stapleton for the extended run of one-off stadium dates in the U.S. are guests and Grammy-winning band Little Big Town.
Of the few opportunities to see Strait perform live, Pollstar said, “Strait remains the most worthy inheritor of Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson’s mantle of country icon through the meaningful fluidity with which he moves through country’s various sub-strains with the same ease and enjoyment that marked both men’s Country Music Hall of Fame careers.”
“I’ve always said we have the best fans in the world, and to see so many of them show up for these shows
Strait is the unambiguous King of Country Music, having sold more than 105 million albums and counting while earning more than 60 entertainment industry awards as well as countless nominations and becoming the only act in history to have a Top 10 hit every year for more than three decades.
Kentucky-born Stapleton is an eight-time Grammy, 14-time CMA and 10-time ACM Award winner and one of the country’s most respected and beloved musicians whose latest release is the album “Higher.”
Grammy-, ACM-, CMA-, AMA- and Emmy-winning group Little Big Town – Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman and Jimi Westbrook – first entered the music scene more than 20 years ago with hit songs “Boondocks,” “Bring It On Home,” “Good As Gone” and the Grammy-nominated “Little White Church.”

Wynonna Judd to Perform ‘The Greatest Hits’ at The
Venetian
on Dec. 11 and 13-14
After nine years, country music icon Wynonna Judd returns to The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip for three shows during NFR week.
To celebrate her dynamic career, which began as one half of legendary country mother-daughter duo The Judds, Wynonna will play “The Greatest Hits” in honor of her 40th anniversary as an entertainer with shows on Dec. 11, 13 and 14 all starting at 8:30 p.m.
“Sometimes I feel like you just need to throw a big party for yourself! This is a milestone year for me,” Wynonna said. “Mom and I played our very first show in 1984, which means I’ve been performing live for 40 years. That’s more than half of my life!
“ ‘The Greatest Hits’ celebration is a chance for the fans and I to celebrate. They have been with me for so long, and my hope is that everyone will get to hear their favorite song. How many hits can we fit into one show? Let’s find out!”
Wynonna last appeared at The Venetian Theatre during “The Judds – Girls Night Out” residency with her mother Naomi Judd for a nine-show run in 2015.
Once dubbed by Rolling Stone as “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline,” Country Music Hall of Fame member Wynonna is one of the most celebrated artists in country history.
Wynonna rose to fame as part of one of the most successful music duos of all time, The Judds, becoming music royalty to fans and critics alike. Naomi Judd died in 2022.
Respected by millions of fans who are drawn to her music and talent, Wynonna’s rich and commanding voice has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, holding multiple gold, platinum and multiplatinum certifications from the RIAA.
A five-time Grammy winner and a New York Times bestselling author, Wynonna is the recipient of more than 60 industry awards, countless charting singles and 21 #1 hits, including “Mama He’s Crazy,” “Why Not Me,” “Grandpa (Tell Me ’Bout the Good Ole Days),” “She Is His Only Need” and “No One Else on Earth.”
‘Thomas Rhett: Live in Las Vegas’ Set for Fontainebleau
From Dec. 6-7 and 13-14
Hailed as one of country’s most consistent and dynamic modern stars, Thomas Rhett brings his four-night run of “Thomas Rhett: Live in Las Vegas” to BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas set for Dec. 6-7 and 13-14.
The limited engagement brings fans closer to Rhett’s music in the 3,800-capacity theater on the Las Vegas Strip that has recently hosted resident headliner Keith Urban, Sam Hunt, Pitbull and many more.
“For me, having the chance to set up in Vegas for a string of shows is something I’ve been trying to find the right time to do for a while now,” Rhett said. “It gives us the chance to be back in smaller rooms – for almost a mini-residency – and really be right there to play off the fans and be sure every single one of them is on their feet each night.
“I’m already looking forward to making these shows unlike any we’ve ever done before. It’s going to be a blast.”
The announcement of Las Vegas shows in June follows Rhett revealing that his upcoming seventh studio album “About a Woman” would be released on Aug. 23. The album features 14 songs nearly all co-written by Rhett, who has 22 No. 1 hits. The album’s lead single “Beautiful As You” was popular with fans and radio.
Violinist Lindsey Stirling Brings ‘Snow Waltz Christmas Tour 2024’
to The Venetian From Dec. 6-7
Lindsey Stirling, viral premier electronic violinist, dancer and aerialist, is tuning up her bow for the holidays, as the multiplatinum-selling musician-composer brings her “North American Snow Waltz Tour 2024” to The Venetian from Dec. 6-7, with performances starting at 8:30 p.m.
The tour, which gets its name from Stirling’s 2022 chart-topping album “Snow Waltz,” promises to be theatrical, eclectic, highenergy and at least a little bit whimsical.
Stirling mixes dance and acrobatics into her interpretations of holiday staples such as “Sleigh Ride,” “Joy to the World” and “Deck the Halls” plus a few originals. Her concert performances take their cues from the 14-track “Snow Waltz,” which isn’t your everyday Christmas album.
“I put a little bit of spookiness into it,” Stirling said during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” “I’m a big fan of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ as well as ‘Harry Potter,’ which I feel like marries a little bit of that magic and spooky.”
That is quintessential Stirling, an artist who stylishly blends sonics with visuals – from her arresting mixture of pop, classical, hip-hop and electronica to her meticulous attention to impactful and thematic album and video artwork.
Brad Paisley to Perform Three Acoustic ‘One Man, Six Strings’ Shows at Wynn
Las Vegas

‘TITANIC: THE ARTIFACT EXHIBITION’ at Luxor a Popular Historical Attraction
Sept. 1 marked the 39th anniversary of the remarkable discovery of RMS Titanic’s wreck site, and “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” at The Luxor continues to invite guests to explore the marvel of the world’s most famous ocean liner and gain insight into her tragic voyage across the North Atlantic Ocean.
The wreck of the RMS Titanic was discovered on Sept. 1, 1985, during a collaborative expedition led by American and French oceanographers of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea.
The ship was found broken in two about 13 nautical miles from her last recorded position about 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, laying 2 1/2 miles below the North Atlantic Ocean’s surface. The sensational news of the oceanic discovery gripped audiences around the world and set off a renewed interest in studying and preserving artifacts from the storied Titanic.
RMS Titanic Inc., the salvor-inpossession of the Titanic, has respectfully recovered more than 5,500 artifacts from the wreck site. More than 350 authentic artifacts are on display at “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” at The Luxor.
The 25,000-square-foot exhibit includes a 15-ton section of the starboard hull known as “The Big Piece,” a full-scale re-creation of the grand staircase and other iconic locations on the ship. The exhibit also includes personal effects such as luggage, playing cards, clothing, china and an unopened bottle of champagne.
Travel back in time and experience the wonder and tragedy of the world’s most famous ocean liner. “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with final admission at 7 p.m.
The 11-time Oscar-winning film “Titanic,” directed by James Cameron and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, was released in 1997 and was atop the box office record chart for films at $600 million for many years. More: TitanicLasVegas.com
There is no team in the NHL that has more of a home ice advantage than the Vegas Golden Knights, who started the season 8-0 at The Fortress.
“We love playing here,” goalie Adin Hill said after blanking the Flames 5-0 in October.
THE
“ “
FANS
ARE GREAT. THERE’S SO MUCH SUPPORT. IT’S AN AMAZING ATMOSPHERE.
It helps to have bonafide stars in Tomas Hertl, Mark Stone and Jack Eichel, but home dominance predates the 20242025 campaign.
The Golden Knights’ all-time home record is 178-80-20, which is extraordinary since most expansion teams struggle at the start.
However, the Golden Knights have a ridiculous lifetime home-winning percentage of .676. It helps that the vibe is terrific at T-Mobile Arena, which is as rollicking as raucous arenas such as Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia and Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden.
As soon as Panic at the Disco’s “Vegas Lights” is played at T-Mobile Arena, the capacity crowd roars. There’s a good reason why the arena is filled. The Golden Knights are a very good product featuring considerably skilled players. Hertl is a dynamic player – an amazing puck handler and a tremendous goal scorer.
The Golden Knights were fortunate to pluck Hertl when the San Jose Sharks conducted their fire sale in March. Eichel is a superstar who forced a move from the dysfunctional Buffalo Sabres. The Knights were fortunate to receive the one-time top prospect in a blockbuster deal three years ago.
The relationship between Eichel and the Sabres reached a point of no return after an unfortunate dispute over whether Eichel was permitted to undergo the surgery he requested for a severe neck injury. The Golden Knights appear to be the winners of that deal. Eichel has fit in perfectly.
And then there is Stone, who is a valuable Golden Knight. Stone has been rock solid, pun intended. The
winger is the heart and soul of the squad. The trio and the rest of the team obviously get some juice playing at home since the Golden Knights have struggled on the road. But it’s a long season.
The odds are that the Golden Knights will continue playing well at The Fortress, and if the squad picks it up while as the visitors, this could be a memorable season. The Golden Knights won its first Stanley Cup in 2023. Perhaps home ice advantage will help propel the Golden Knights to another championship.
T-MOBILE ARENA HOSTS EMIRATES NBA CUP FINALS
ON DEC. 14 AND 17
The Emirates NBA Cup, the league’s in-season tournament, will return to T-Mobile Arena for a semifinal contest Dec. 14 and for the championship Dec. 17.
The Los Angeles Lakers outlasted the Indiana Pacers in an exciting finale to close the first annual event in 2023.
The NBA is planning more immersive fan experiences, live entertainment, interactive games and VIP opportunities such as courtside dinners with NBA legends for the second Emirates NBA Cup.
“We’re looking to create more engagement with our fans,” NBA Executive VP of Global Events Kelly Flatlow said. “The fans are seeing a special event at the beginning of the season on the court, and we’re doubling down this year on bringing more energy and excitement to Las Vegas for the second Emirates NBA Cup.”
NBA Experience packages are available offering exclusive access to helicopter tours, VIP shootarounds and dinner on the Emirates NBA Cup Court. NBA icons including Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dominique Wilkins were part of the event in 2023.
The inaugural NBA Tees & Threes Golf Tournament is slated for Dec. 16 at Wynn Golf Course. The event pairs celebrities, pro golfers and NBA legends with fans. Aficionados will have the option to play or watch golf-side while enjoying live entertainment, gourmet food and beverages and photo opportunities.
The NBA is no stranger to Las Vegas since the NBA Summer League has been in town for 20 years. “We love Las Vegas, and we know how ideal it is to have the Emirates Cup there since it’s such a great sports town,” Flatlow said. “Las Vegas is a terrific destination for NBA fans.”
There are so many special events on tap that the NBA added an extra day for the Emirates Cup. “It was Thursday to Saturday last year,” Flatlow said. “We have more things going on this year, so we really need that extra day.”
The athletes are playing for the cup and a nice bonus. The winners of the NBA Cup receive $500,000 each. The runner-up team leaves town with $200,000 each.
“This is a great tournament for the players and the fans,” Flatlow said. “Las Vegas has been great for the NBA Emirates Cup.”
No wonder there is so much buzz that Las Vegas, along with Seattle, will be the next cities to have an NBA team.
“Las Vegas is a world class destination,” Flatlow said. “All 30 of the NBA teams see that. Las Vegas has been great for our summer league. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the future with the NBA and Las Vegas.”

Azzurra Wine Bar a Welcome Addition to South Water Street
Henderson trailblazer and acclaimed architect Windom Kimsey has a vision to bring about a renaissance to the south end of Water Street in Henderson. He is well on his way to accomplishing this after opening the popular Azzurra Cucina Italiana and Public Works Coffee Bar and now has added Azzurra Wine Bar.
The wine bar shares space with Public Works and is steps away from its sister restaurant and Kimsey’s home and office. Before opening in the summer, the space was remodeled to add a front and back bar, upgraded counters and lighting. A retail and private events space doubles as the wine shop and hosts live music on Thursdays at 6 p.m. and the Taylor Swift trivia brunch.
The décor includes nods to the city with Henderson street signs and a colorful wall mural by local artist Mili Turnbull depicting Henderson Water Street District and prominent residents including Kimsey walking his dogs, past Henderson Mayor Debra March and current Mayor Michelle Romero.
A unique artifact is a phone booth from England that Kimsey acquired when designing the Las Vegas airport’s D gates. The vintage booth doubles as a lending library without a checkout or due date.
Kimsey is a devoted dog owner, so it’s not surprising that one of the walls of the wine shop room is decorated with artwork featuring his dogs, and the dog-friendly outdoor patio comes complete with water bowls and treats.
A smooth transition takes place in the late afternoon, as the coffee bar moves from caffeinated beverages to those made from fermented grapes. The wine list, crafted by GM Samantha Remer, is unique with global fine wines not found elsewhere hailing from California, Italy, France, Greece, South Africa, Portugal and Spain.
There are 25 by the glass ($9-$28) with a rotating selection of guest favorites and new offerings and more than 75 wines by the bottle. Examples are Red Blend, Paulo Laureano Emas Vineyard,
If you’re planning on taking a bottle home, you’ll get 25% off. If dining at Azzurra Cucina, the discount also applies along with no corkage fee. An excellent option to try more wines are the three wine flights with three pours in white ($15), red ($15) and premium ($28).
The food menu is also the creation of Remer. Standouts are four types of bruschetta such as brie with blueberry preserves, blueberries, honey and basil; arugula salad with goat cheese, pine nuts, fried garbanzo beans and lemon vinaigrette; and the Italian panini with prosciutto, tomato, balsamic and mozzarella on ciabatta bread served with kettle chips.
On Sunday breakfast is served till 3 p.m., with dishes including avocado pesto toast; salmon lox toast; pastries; bacon, Florentine and Italian quiche; and affogato – vanilla gelato, espresso, shaved chocolate and teddy graham cracker.
Great values include happy hour 3-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays offering glasses of Prosecco, Pinot Grigio or Garnacha for $8, draft beers for $6, mini meatballs for $6.95 and bruschetta for $9.95; a 15% discount on food and drink for teachers on Tuesdays; and 25% off bottles poured in the wine bar Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Azzurra Wine Bar is open 3-9 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays, 3-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. Closed Mondays. | AzzurraCucina.com

WHO: The friendly Tahomar Gil, 43, a mixologist who has been with MGM Resorts for nine years and in Las Vegas since 2002. The Venezuelan American, whose first job was at a bar in Miami at age 18, made Heart of the Ocean – no relation to “Titanic” – behind the bar at Easy’s Cocktail Lounge at Aria, where Tahomar has been for two years.
THE COCKTAIL: “Heart of the Ocean is one of our three showstoppers, which are the maximum expression of the cocktails that we have to offer here at Easy’s. It is served on a beach of sand surrounded by seashells and presented in a seashell-shaped glass that can be shared and passed around ceremoniously among your favorite drinking mates.
“It is in the true spirit of our showstoppers that are meant to be a shared experience. It is made with Codigo Blanco Tequila, orgeat, lime juice and blueberry spirulina, which are both fresh pressed daily, and lastly it has our ocean mist, which is emulsified egg whites and sea salt. I would describe it as an exquisite balance of sweet, sour and a taste of the sea.
“It is not related to ‘Titanic,’ but it does pair perfectly with our beluga caviar service.”
TAHOMAR’S FAVORITE COCKTAIL: “I like to drink according to the occasion, so I’d say a perfect margarita or a mai tai on the beach. And if I’m out and about at night, I’d say I’m a whisky lover, so anything from rye and bourbon to scotch. I enjoy an Old Fashioned and a Manhattan.”
WHAT TAHOMAR LOVES ABOUT LAS VEGAS:
“The amenities. I think that we are spoiled by design on a night-and-day basis for world-class mixology, gastronomy and live entertainment. Beyond that, there are great activities to do outdoors year round.”
A LITTLE-KNOWN FACT ABOUT TAHOMAR: “I’m a lifelong surfer, and I have a black belt in jujitsu.”
PRIME PRO TIP FROM TAHOMAR: “My pro tip is an emphasis in the fact that bartenders are loaded with pro tips. Establishing a friendly conversation with your bartender can go a long way. We have useful local knowledge that can greatly improve your experience! Everything from the best tacos in town all the way up to tips on how to obtain an impossible reservation at a world famous restaurant. Talk to your bartender!”
