BIOHACKING WITH JOHNXD >>> A Personal Account of His Journey into Wellness
The Beginning
I was born in 1974, and underwent a critical open heart surgery just four years later. Six months after surgery I was living the typical, active lifestyle of a young boy - playing hockey and riding mini motorcycles. My childhood was strained as my father underwent back surgery in 1983 and developed an addiction to pain meds, which was enhanced by alcohol. During this time, I utilized sports as an escape and a coping mechanism. Riding ATVs and waterskiing in the summer and playing hockey and ice skating in the winter. Post high school graduation, the summer was spent keeping in shape by working on a lobster boat in Rhode Island, before shipping off to the Navy.
Military
In January of 1993, I was shipped to Great Lakes, IL for two extremely cold months as I attended US Navy Boot Camp. Soon after attending Boot Camp, I arrived in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where I spent three years aboard a Nuclear Fast Attack Submarine. This grueling lifestyle was not conducive to health and wellness. After the military the intention was to seek warmer weather comparable to Hawaii, so Florida was the choice. There, the next 17 years would be forged.
Wellness Journey
At 29, I was in poor shape weighing in at 240 pounds. A friend introduced Gold’s Gym as an option and with dedication and discipline, in less than one year, I was down to 180lbs and just 14% body fat.
From 2003-2010 JohnXD was born out of necessity, both for a way for people to remember me, and my company at the time, Xtremely Digital. These years were spent being a pro photographer with a magazine traveling all over Florida covering events including fights, both MMA and Boxing, working with athletes, and building a network.
After relocating to Colorado In 2017, a long time friend introduced me to OsteoStrong and biohacking. Here is where my endless research started on biohacking and all the natural ways to heal and grow. One year later, I was given a unique opportunity to move to Las Vegas, NV. Within one month of arriving, I was able to connect with Osteostrong Vegas and explain the intention to build the program. During 2019 while doing Osteostrong sessions, learning the industry, seeing the results and becoming a raving fan, I partnered with the original owners to grow Osteostrong and ultimately help the Vegas community.
Then, in 2020, Covid hit and shut the world down. During Covid, my team and I decided to move Osteostrong to a more prominent location which allowed them to offer additional modalities like the Biocharger and Red Light Therapy. And, when we opened back up in 2022, we started seeing immediate results from all types of members within months of starting the program. The addition of energy therapy and red light significantly amplified people’s results.
At that time, like many others, I was overweight and not in optimal health due to a very sedentary lifestyle during the Covid shutdown - I was 230lbs, so I was looking for solutions, too. Starting to work out and doing the Osteostrong program was a great start, but the amplification came in August of 2022. I was introduced to B3 Sciences BFR Bands (Blood Flow Restriction). This was a game changer! Workouts could be cut in half of what I used to do, and get better results with less weight. This means no

more damage. Once using the bands for 2 workouts I called the owner Dr. Mike, and joined the company as a Founder. He and I have been on a mission to change lives ever since. Technology that is this good and effective needs to be available and introduced to everyone. That’s why I’m wearing them on this cover! In September of 2022 I stepped up the game with adding a Full Body Vibration plate into the mix. BFR plus Full Body Vibration is a whole new level of muscle burn. As a creative person, I always look for a new way to do something. Having a virtual reality gaming system, I was curious if it could be incorporated into workouts. I started with Beat Saber due to the arm movements, plus hand eye coordination benefits, and figured with BFR there should be a good burn. I was right, especially if I added hand or wrist weights. Now the other game I focussed on was Creed, which is a VR boxing game. This game is pretty intense while using BFR, and fantastic to continue my hand eye coordination training. One day I decided to try something really crazy and do VR Beat Saber with BFR Bands, on Full Body Vibration. This is what I was looking for! Every muscle, every movement matters. These are the type of workouts I need to be doing- efficient, effective, no damage, and all about results.
While on this path I had been doing a lot of research on supplementation and nutrition, and also recovery. With BFR there is minimal recovery because you’re not doing that damage, but proper recovery is still important to build muscle. Another important aspect is blood circulation, and it’s one of those things most people don’t think about. Poor blood flow will hinder your results. So as I start to ramp up supplementation to help with these factors, and of course research shows BFR bands help with a natural Nitric Oxide release and HGH (Human Growth Hormone) production. Nitric Oxide is a natural vasodilator for blood vessels, and HGH stimulates protein synthesis for muscle repair and growth, collagen boost to repair tendons, ligaments and skin, and even helps with the body’s inflammatory response, helping reduce inflammation.
Inflammation is a very big topic nowadays, and having Red Light Therapy in my Osteostrong Center I wanted to learn as much as I could about it and be a component of that, too. Learning how great it was for anti inflammation, skin health, mitochondria support, collagen boost, testosterone boost, improved circulation, and the list goes on.I decided to get one and try it out. I received my own personal Red Light on Nov 10, 2022 and I started using it for 12 min per session, once in the morning and once at night. To this day I have the same routine, I don’t miss Red Light. The benefits are not only visible, but I really do feel better. Red light is part of my “non negotiables” list. There are a few things on there like B3 BFR Bands, and Vibration, as well. Basically these are things I will not live without again. They are not only affordable, but extremely valuable for their price. I have always looked at myself as an investment, and what better investment to make than myself? We only get one body!
Biohacking Las Vegas
As I continued my wellness journey, I attended several networking meetings a month, but just could not seem to find the health and wellness people. As it turned out, me and my good friend Gary were having the same issue. It was then that I decided to start Biohacking Las Vegas, a group that could hold monthly meetings for businesses to network and bring biohacking information to the community. With Gary’s help, Biohacking Las Vegas held their first meeting. Unfortunately there were only 6 attendees, and I knew immediately that they had quite a

bit of work to do in order to build the group. Today, each meeting has over 40 attendees and an array of different health and wellness focused businesses. Biohacking Las Vegas continues to grow and enhance the biohacking movement here in Las Vegas. Monthly meetings are always free to attend!
The Biohacking Las Vegas Network
Biohacking involves making changes to our bodies, lifestyles or environment in an effort to maximize our health. While putting forth the effort to extend our longevity, which is both lifespan and healthspan, we have to look at the things we can do that offer the most value. I have built an amazing biohacking network thus far.. The meetings have garnered me some now life long friends for which I am extremely grateful. I am always the first to say that “the health and wellness industry here in Vegas is amazing.”
Business owners like Earl and Katrina at Hydration Station have now become a part of my family. Their hydrogen water is an integral part of my home as well as my business. I also was able to meet Michelle and her husband over at Body20 where an EMS suit provides muscle contractions while doing a simple 20 minute workout. Body20 has an InBody scan to see your body metrics which helps track your results. I have also added in compression therapy, as well. The concept of the compression is to push blood and lymph out of the limbs more effectively, by improving blood circulation, and therefore reducing muscle soreness and fatigue.
John’s
Non-Negotiables
I’d like to circle back to something I mentioned called my “non negotiables” list. These are things that are just too valuable to me, that I will continue to use for the rest of my life.
Here are a couple more to add to my list: ASEA Redox, and ASEA Renu Gel, and Timeline Nutrition’s Mitopure. Up until October 7, 2023 I was getting post Covid migraine headaches. I’ve never really had headaches before, so this was not fun for me. I got introduced to Asea from a fellow biohacker friend. I did the research; it all makes sense, your body makes less redox signaling molecules as you get older. Mitochondria support and cell health is very important to being healthy. I tried my first bottle of ASEA, which has a slight saline taste to it, but it’s very drinkable. One bottle in, which was 2oz in the morning, 2oz at night, I felt different. Something immediately changed. To this day I have not missed a day of ASEA, nor will I. My energy is different (ask anyone who knows me). I feel more alive, and most importantly I haven’t had a post Covid migraine since I started taking it. I also have added the supplement Mitopure to increase mitochondrial strength and function. Recently, I added an Align PEMF mat to my nightly routine, while doing compression which in the wellness world is called stacking, or combining biohacks.
The future of health and wellness is here, especially in Las Vegas. There are so many businesses dedicated to this community just trying to get people to be the best versions of themselves!
Look for my upcoming monthly column, Biohacking with JohnXD where I will discuss all things biohacking and highlight our local health and wellness businesses.

About BODY20
BODY20 is not your typical gym. Workouts are fast-paced and last just 20 minutes. Each session, a personal trainer guides the member through a personalized, one-on-one program focused on either strength, cardio, or a mix of both. Prior to beginning the session, the member is outfitted with a lightweight, adjustable, electrode-enabled suit which provides their body with over 150 times more muscle contractions than a typical workout. Workouts are guided and may include the use of light hand weights, bands, and weighted balls. Each workout burns calories, reduces cellulite, tones the body, increases blood circulation and builds lean muscle. By following the guidance of professional trainers at every stage, members typically see improvements in posture, core strength, and even back discomfort while addressing muscle imbalances.
BODY20 BENEFITS
Maximum Results in
Minimal Time: Each 20-minute BODY20 session equals hours in the conventional gym.
Minimize Strain on Musculoskeletal System: The lack of heavy weights in training sessions enables a high-intensity workout that is low-impact on joints, bones, nerves, and muscles.

BEYOND LDL >>> A Smarter Approach to Preventing Heart Disease
This article is for informational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice. The information provided here should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making any changes to your medical treatment, diet, or lifestyle. The recommendations discussed in this article are based on current research and expert consensus but should be tailored to individual patient needs in consultation with a physician.
A Heart Attack That Didn’t Have to Happen
It was 8 AM in the ER. The beeping monitors, the rushed footsteps of nurses, the controlled chaos—it was all too familiar. A 47-year-old man lay on the bed, drenched in sweat, gasping for air, his heart muscle struggling to survive. His face was pale, his body trembling, his eyes filled with terror as the crushing pressure in his chest intensified. His wife sat in the corner, frozen in shock, hands clasped together, her eyes pleading for hope.
He wasn’t supposed to be here.
Just two months earlier, he had visited his primary care doctor for a routine check-up. His labs came back with an LDL cholesterol of 100 mg/dL. His doctor reassured him that his numbers were “fine,” that he was low risk because he had no symptoms, no previous cardiac events, and no known family history of early heart disease.
His doctor followed the guidelines, checked the right boxes, and sent him home without medication, without further testing, and without any real assessment of his true risk.
What the Guidelines Told His Doctor to Do:
• Only check LDL-C—not LDL particle number, ApoB, or Lp(a). The assumption? LDL-C alone is enough to determine cardiovascular risk. It isn’t.
• Don’t even start checking cholesterol until age 35. By then, arterial plaque may already be forming, and in some cases, may already be dangerously advanced.
• No medication unless LDL-C is above 190 mg/dL or the patient has a known history of cardiovascular disease. By this logic, intervention often comes too late—after a heart attack or stroke has already occurred.
At 47 years old, this man’s heart disease had already been developing for two decades. His doctor, like many others, was following outdated guidelines—guidelines that are based on 10- year risk models, rather than a lifetime risk perspective. Based on his LDL-C alone, he didn’t “qualify” for medication—until he landed in the ER with a heart attack.
Is this good enough for you? Because it’s not good enough for me.
At Elite Medical Associates, we refuse to wait until a patient has a cardiac event before acting. We go beyond the guidelines to assess true cardiovascular risk before a crisis occurs. If you are claiming to practice longevity medicine but are not measuring LDL particle number (LDL-P), ApoB, and Lp(a.), what are you actually doing? Longevity isn’t about simply extending life—it’s about preventing disease before it starts. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death, and it begins decades before symptoms appear, often silently progressing
until it’s too late. Yet, many physicians still rely solely on LDL-C, overlooking far more predictive markers of cardiovascular risk. If the goal of longevity medicine is to optimize healthspan, not just lifespan, then advanced lipid testing must be a foundation of any serious longevity practice—because prevention should begin long before a heart attack or stroke forces us to take action.
Introduction
For decades, medical professionals have been trained to focus on LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) as the primary target for cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. Statins, lifestyle modifications, and dietary interventions have all been directed toward lowering LDL-C with the assumption that reducing it would significantly lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes. While lowering LDL-C has indeed contributed to the decline in cardiovascular events, many patients continue to suffer catastrophic cardiovascular events despite having LDL-C levels considered “normal.”
The reality is that LDL-C alone does not fully predict cardiovascular risk. Many patients with so called “optimal” LDL-C suffer heart attacks, while others with mildly elevated LDL-C live into old age without cardiovascular disease. This discrepancy is not an anomaly; it is a result of oversimplified risk assessment. Emerging research confirms that LDL particle number (LDL-P), Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), and Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] provide a far superior assessment of atherogenic burden than LDL-C alone.
The 2023 ACC/AHA guidelines have begun to incorporate these additional biomarkers, recognizing their importance in refining cardiovascular risk assessment. However, guidelines are intended to set the minimum standard of care, not the optimal standard. At Elite Medical Associates, we believe in staying ahead of the curve, integrating advanced lipid testing, genetic screening, and imaging into routine cardiovascular evaluations to ensure long-term prevention, not just short-term risk reduction. This article explores the limitations of LDL-C, the importance of additional biomarkers, the role of genetic testing and imaging, and a structured approach to lipid management that emphasizes lifestyle modifications before pharmacologic interventions.
LDL Is Just the Tip of the Iceberg
For years, LDL-C has been treated as the primary metric for cardiovascular risk, leading to an oversimplified approach to lipid management. However, LDL-C only measures the cholesterol content within LDL particles, not the actual number of LDL particles themselves. This distinction is critical because it is the number of particles, rather than the total cholesterol mass, that determines the likelihood of arterial plaque formation.
To understand this, imagine two different highways filled with cars. One highway has 10 large trucks carrying the same amount of cargo, while another has 50 smaller cars carrying an equivalent load. While both highways transport the same total cargo, the highway with more cars is more congested and more prone to accidents. In this analogy, LDL-C measures the total cargo, while LDL particle number (LDL-P) counts the number of vehicles on the road. The more particles there are, the
greater the chance of arterial injury and plaque formation, regardless of the total cholesterol carried by those particles.
Several major studies, including the UK Biobank Study and research by Sniderman AD in Circulation, have confirmed that patients with normal LDL-C but elevated ApoB or LDL-P are at significantly higher risk of cardiovascular events. Many individuals who have a low or moderate LDL-C level are falsely reassured by their lab results, when in fact, they have a high burden of small, dense LDL particles that aggressively contribute to atherosclerosis.
ApoB is a superior marker because each atherogenic lipoprotein (LDL, VLDL, Lp(a) contains a single ApoB molecule, making it a direct count of the number of circulating atherogenic particles. Unlike LDL-C, which can fluctuate due to dietary intake, hydration status, or even recent exercise, ApoB remains a stable and reliable measure of risk.
By: Manoj K. Sharma, DO, Board Certified Internal Medicine Elite Medical Associates
Beyond LDL-P and ApoB, Lp(a) is another often-overlooked but critically important risk factor. Lp(a) is genetically inherited and has a proinflammatory and pro-thrombotic effect, significantly increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Lp(a) levels remain relatively stable throughout life, meaning that measuring Lp(a) once provides a lifelong indicator of genetic risk. Despite its well-documented role in cardiovascular disease, Lp(a) is not routinely measured in many clinical settings, leaving many high-risk individuals unaware of their predisposition.
If our goal is true prevention, we must move beyond LDL-C alone as the gold standard and incorporate a more complete, individualized approach to lipid management.
How Low Should LDL Go?
One of the most hotly debated topics in lipidology is how aggressively we should lower LDL-C levels. While earlier guidelines suggested LDL targets around 70 mg/dL for high-risk individuals, recent research suggests that lowering LDL to ultra-low levels (<20 mg/dL) provides substantial additional benefits with no apparent safety concerns.
The FOURIER Trial, ODYSSEY Outcomes Trial, and IMPROVE-IT Trial have all demonstrated that the lower the LDL-C, the greater the reduction in cardiovascular events. The idea that excessively low LDL-C might be harmful has been debunked by genetic studies on people with PCSK9 loss-of-function mutations. These individuals have lifelong LDL-C levels below 20 mg/ dL and experience drastically lower rates of cardiovascular disease without adverse effects.
Importantly, LDL-C does not operate in isolation. While ultra-low LDL-C reduces cardiovascular risk, combining LDL reduction with Lp(a) monitoring and aggressive control of metabolic factors provides even greater protection. For example, patients with high Lp(a) may still require even lower LDL targets to counteract their genetically elevated risk.
Additionally, duration of LDL exposure matters. Patients who start with high cholesterol in early adulthood may need aggressive treatment to reverse decades of plaque buildup, whereas individuals with low lifetime LDL exposure may require less intensive therapy. The key takeaway is that lower is better, but personalized treatment is crucial.
When Should We Start Screening?
One of the biggest flaws in current lipid management is the delayed onset of screening. If cardiovascular disease is often asymptomatic for decades before manifesting as a heart attack or stroke, why do most guidelines still recommend starting cholesterol screening at age 35 or later?
Studies of young accident victims have shown early arterial plaque formation in children as young as 10 years old, particularly those with obesity, insulin resistance, or a strong family history of heart disease. This suggests that atherosclerosis is a decades-long process, not a condition that suddenly appears in middle age.
Current pediatric guidelines recommend universal lipid screening between ages 9-11 and again between ages 17-21. However, for children with metabolic syndrome, obesity, or a family history of early cardiovascular disease, screening should begin even earlier. Identifying high-risk individuals in childhood allows for early lifestyle interventions that can prevent long-term disease progression.
If we truly aim to prevent cardiovascular disease, we must rethink our approach to screening and intervention, shifting toward earlier detection and earlier treatment.
Lifestyle is the First Step—And It’s Nearly Always Safe
Before initiating pharmacologic treatment, it is essential to optimize lifestyle interventions, as they are the foundation of cardiovascular prevention. Multiple landmark studies have demonstrated that diet, exercise, and weight loss can significantly improve lipid profiles and reduce long-term cardiovascular risk.
The PREDIMED Trial, which examined the Mediterranean diet, found that adopting a diet rich in healthy fats, fiber, and polyphenols can lower LDL-C by 10-15% and reduce cardiovascular mortality. The Framingham Heart Study and AHA Exercise Guidelines have confirmed that consistent physical activity reduces LDL-C, improves insulin sensitivity, and lowers inflammation.
Patients often ask whether lifestyle changes alone are enough. For some, particularly those with mild lipid abnormalities and no additional risk factors, lifestyle alone may be sufficient. However, for individuals with genetic hypercholesterolemia, high Lp(a), or existing arterial plaque, medications provide an essential additional layer of protection.
By starting with diet, exercise, and metabolic optimization, patients can achieve significant cardiovascular benefits with minimal risk. Only when lifestyle interventions are insufficient should pharmacotherapy be added as a step-up intervention.
Medications: The Next Step in Risk Reduction
For individuals at high cardiovascular risk, lifestyle modifications alone may not be enough to fully mitigate their atherogenic burden. In these cases, pharmacologic therapy becomes a necessary tool, not as a replacement for lifestyle interventions but as an additional safeguard against ongoing disease progression. However, not all lipid-lowering medications are created equal, and treatment must be tailored based on the specific lipid abnormalities present.
Statins remain the first-line therapy for lowering LDL-C, as they have been extensively studied and consistently shown to reduce cardiovascular events. By inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, statins decrease the liver’s production of cholesterol, leading to a 30-60% reduction in LDL-C levels and a significant decrease in cardiovascular risk. They also have pleiotropic benefits, including reducing vascular inflammation and stabilizing plaques, which further contribute to their protective effects.
For patients who need additional LDL lowering beyond what statins can achieve, ezetimibe serves as an effective add-on therapy. By blocking cholesterol absorption in the intestines, ezetimibe provides an additional 15-20% reduction in LDL-C, making it particularly useful in patients who are statin-intolerant or need more aggressive lipid control.
For those at the highest risk—such as individuals with genetic hypercholesterolemia or recurrent cardiovascular events despite statin therapy—PCSK9 inhibitors offer the most potent LDL lowering effect. These monoclonal antibodies enhance LDL receptor recycling in the liver, leading to a 45-60% reduction in LDL-C and a corresponding reduction in ApoB. Trials such as FOURIER and ODYSSEY Outcomes have confirmed their safety and effectiveness in reducing heart attacks and strokes.
Beyond LDL-C, berberine and bempedoic acid have emerged as promising agents for those who cannot tolerate statins. Berberine, a natural compound, has been shown to reduce LDL by 15-25% and improve insulin
sensitivity, making it particularly useful for individuals with metabolic syndrome or prediabetes. Bempedoic acid, a newer non-statin oral medication, acts by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis upstream of the HMG-CoA pathway, offering an alternative approach for those at risk of statin-related muscle symptoms.
For patients with elevated Lp(a), treatment options remain limited but are rapidly evolving. While niacin has historically been used to lower Lp(a), its effects on cardiovascular outcomes remain uncertain. However, nextgeneration Lp(a)-lowering therapies, such as antisense oligonucleotides and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), are currently in clinical trials, showing promise in reducing Lp(a) levels by 20-80%.
Ultimately, medications should be viewed as a tool to enhance, not replace, lifestyle-based prevention strategies. A multifactorial approach— one that addresses not just LDL-C but also LDL-P, ApoB, and Lp(a)—offers the greatest level of protection against cardiovascular events.
When and How to Step Down Therapy
While much of lipid management focuses on intensifying therapy, we must also recognize situations where it may be appropriate to de-escalate treatment. Patients who achieve long-term lipid control, maintain optimal metabolic health, and exhibit no signs of disease progression may be candidates for medication tapering under careful supervision.
Deprescribing should be approached with caution, as atherosclerosis is a chronic, progressive condition. Even when plaque stabilization or regression has been achieved, discontinuing medication too soon can allow the disease process to reactivate, potentially undoing years of progress.
The process of step-down therapy should involve:
1. Continued risk assessment: Patients should undergo periodic ApoB, LDL-P, and Lp(a) testing to ensure that their risk profile remains stable before reducing medication doses.
2. Imaging follow-up: Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) scans can be used to track disease regression or stability, helping to determine whether medication deescalation is appropriate.
3. Gradual dose reduction: Rather than abruptly stopping lipid-lowering medications, a stepwise reduction in dosage allows for monitoring of any rebound effect in cholesterol levels.
4. Continued lifestyle adherence: Patients who discontinue medication must maintain strict adherence to dietary and exercise recommendations to ensure sustained lipid control.
Some individuals may successfully transition to lifestyle-only maintenance, while others may require lifelong pharmacologic support based on their genetic risk, arterial plaque burden, and long-term lipid trends. The key is personalization—there is no universal approach to deprescribing, just as there is no universal approach to initiating therapy.
The Role of Genetic Testing and Imaging
For some individuals, standard lipid testing is insufficient to fully assess cardiovascular risk. In these cases, genetic testing and advanced imaging provide additional tools to detect high-risk patients early, long before symptoms develop.
Polygenic Risk Scores (PRS) offer a modern approach to assessing inherited cardiovascular risk. Unlike traditional genetic testing, which focuses on single-gene mutations, PRS evaluates thousands of
genetic variants associated with coronary artery disease, Lp(a) levels, and cholesterol metabolism. By incorporating genetic risk into clinical decision-making, physicians can identify individuals who may require early and aggressive intervention, even if their traditional risk factors appear mild.
Beyond genetics, advanced imaging plays a crucial role in assessing subclinical atherosclerosis. Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring is one of the most predictive tools for determining actual plaque burden, helping to distinguish between patients who can benefit from aggressive lipid lowering versus those who may not require immediate intervention. CT angiography (CTA) allows for direct visualization of coronary arteries, identifying plaques and stenosis before symptoms occur.
For patients with borderline cholesterol levels or uncertain risk, these tools provide essential information for guiding long-term prevention strategies. By incorporating genetic screening and imaging alongside traditional lipid testing, we can detect disease early, tailor interventions appropriately, and prevent cardiovascular events before they happen.
Conclusion
For years, cardiovascular prevention has been centered around LDL-C reduction, but the latest research confirms that LDL alone is not enough. Advanced lipid markers—including ApoB, LDL-P, and Lp(a)—offer a more accurate assessment of cardiovascular risk, allowing for earlier intervention and more personalized treatment strategies.
The 2023 ACC/AHA guidelines have started to incorporate these additional biomarkers, but staying ahead of the guidelines is essential for achieving optimal outcomes. At Elite Medical Associates, we employ
cutting-edge diagnostics, genetic screening, and imaging to provide a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to cardiovascular health.
Our strategy is not just about managing disease—it is about preventing it entirely. By emphasizing lifestyle interventions first, utilizing precise pharmacologic strategies when necessary, and integrating advanced diagnostic tools, we are able to optimize cardiovascular health for the long-term, not just the next ten years.
As cardiovascular prevention evolves, we must move beyond LDL-C as a single measure of risk and embrace a more comprehensive, personalized approach. The future of medicine is not just about lowering cholesterol—it is about understanding the entire cardiovascular picture, treating early, and preventing disease before it ever has the chance to develop.
For those looking to take control of their cardiovascular health, a thorough lipid evaluation, genetic risk assessment, and advanced imaging workup can provide the insights needed to personalize treatment strategies. Whether through lifestyle, medication, or a combination of both, the goal remains the same: long-term protection from heart disease and a healthier

While these drugs offer potential advantages, the natural, holistic approach championed by Osteostrong presents a compelling alternative. By leveraging the body's natural mechanisms for growth and repair, Osteostrong helps individuals achieve their health goals without reliance on medication.
The impact of Osteostrong on the Las Vegas wellness community has been profound. Members have shared stories of transformation, from overcoming years of discomfort and mobility issues to achieving feats of strength they never thought possible. These testimonials underscore the power of the body to heal and strengthen itself, given the right conditions and support.
As we continue to explore the frontiers of health and wellness, the conversation around GLP-1 drugs, bone density, and muscle loss is an important one. However, it's equally important to remember the value of natural, evidence-based approaches like those offered at Osteostrong. For those seeking to improve their bone health and overall well-being, Osteostrong represents a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of natural healing.

You push through every workout, but are you truly maximizing your results? Science shows that heat, infrared energy, and exercise together create the ultimate fat-burning, muscle-recovery, and detox experience. Enter 3D Training at HOTWORX West Tropicana —where heat works for you, not against you.
What is Three Dimensional (3D) Training?
3D Training combines Heat, Infrared Energy, and Exercise to create an optimal environment for calorie burn, endurance, and flexibility. It was developed by HOTWORX to shorten the time that is necessary to achieve the desired workout results of calorie burn, strength and toning, and detox. The 3D Training Method involves the fusion of three elements including (1) exercise for body movement, (2) heat to force body acclimation to a new workout environment, and (3) infrared energy to activate metabolism for detox and muscle recovery. Unlike traditional workouts, where heat is external (think crowded gyms or hot yoga), infrared heat penetrates the body, increasing circulation and muscle activation from the inside out.
HOTWORX uses its patented infrared saunas to promote a safe and effective heated studio environment with professional Virtual Trainers who instruct and motivate users with a “go at your own best pace” philosophy, making workouts personalized and customized for everyone.
The Infrared Factor
Infrared heat is a special kind of heat that warms you from the inside out— unlike traditional heat that just warms the air around you. It penetrates deep into your muscles, increasing circulation and helping your body work more efficiently. Some of the benefits of heated infrared workouts include: Torch More Calories – Infrared heat raises your core temperature, accelerating metabolism, resulting in a higher caloric burn and ultimately weight loss
Recover Faster – Infrared energy has the effect of strengthening and activating the regenerative processes in the human body. This is why workouts in a heated, infrared energy environment can help to accelerate workout recovery
Detox Naturally – Sweating in an Infrared sauna releases toxins, heavy metals, and impurities, and reduces the buildup of chemicals from processed foods, pollution, and everyday environmental exposure Train Smarter, Not Harder – The combination of infrared heat and an Isometric or High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout session makes a HOTWORX workout unlike any other fitness program available
At HOTWORX West Tropicana, everyone is supported and motivated to reach their fitness goals. No matter where you are in your journey, you’ll find a judgment-free, encouraging environment where we push each other to be our best. We believe in the power of community and are proud to be a pillar of health, wellness, and positivity
More Workout. Less Time.
There are two types of exercise that are most effective when practiced in a proper infrared setting such as a sauna. These two types of workouts are isometric and HIIT training. HOTWORX offers 12 different varieties of these workouts, with a HIIT session, such as HOT CYCLE, lasting 15 minutes long and Isometric sessions like HOT YOGA or HOT PILATES, lasting 30 minutes. You also have 24/7/365 access to HOTWORX, allowing you get your workout in, when it’s convenient to you.
Consistency & Cross Training
Consistency is key to getting the best results with the HOTWORX method. Sticking to a regular workout routine helps you track your progress and build strength and skill faster. Your muscles don’t get "shocked" or "confused"—they grow stronger through consistent training. At the same time, mixing up your workouts (cross-training) keeps things exciting and prevents boredom. It also challenges different muscles and helps you improve in every workout you do.
Stay consistent, stay motivated, and watch your strength and performance grow!

THE BRAIN-SPINE CONNECTION
Enhancing Both Through Spinal Manipulations
In recent years, an increasing body of research has shed light on the powerful connection between spinal health and brain function. One of the most effective ways to enhance both is through spinal manipulations— also known as chiropractic adjustments. These hands-on techniques, typically performed by trained chiropractors, involve applying controlled force to specific joints in the spine to correct misalignments (also known as subluxations). The effects of spinal manipulation extend far beyond pain relief and mobility enhancement. They may play a significant role in improving brain function, stimulating the nervous system, and promoting overall well-being. In this article, we will explore the science behind spinal manipulations and their impact on brain function and optimal health.
The Brain-Spine Connection
To understand how spinal manipulations work to enhance brain function, it's important to first consider the critical role the spine plays in overall health. The spine serves as a protective structure for the spinal cord, a key component of the central nervous system. The spinal cord acts as the communication highway between the brain and the rest of the body, transmitting signals that control everything from muscle movement to the regulation of organs.
When the spine is misaligned, whether due to poor posture, injury, or repetitive movements, the communication between the brain and body can be disrupted. This can lead to various health issues, including pain, muscle dysfunction, and even cognitive impairments. Spinal manipulations aim to correct these misalignments, thereby restoring proper communication between the brain and body.
Enhancing Brain Function Through Spinal Manipulation
• Improved Nervous System Communication: Spinal misalignments can impede the smooth flow of neural impulses. Spinal manipulations work by realigning the vertebrae, which helps improve the function of the nervous system. When the spine is properly aligned, signals between the brain and body are transmitted more efficiently. This enhanced communication between the central nervous system and peripheral systems allows the brain to process information more effectively, leading to improved cognitive function, faster reflexes, and better decision-making.
• Increased Blood Flow to the Brain: Research suggests that spinal manipulations can help increase blood flow to the brain. Proper spinal alignment can optimize circulation, ensuring that the brain receives the nutrients and oxygen it needs to function at its best. This improved blood flow may also help reduce inflammation, support brain tissue health, and enhance overall cognitive abilities, including memory, focus, and mental clarity.
• Reduction in Stress and Anxiety: Chronic stress can have a profound negative impact on brain function. Spinal misalignments, particularly in the upper cervical region (the neck), can contribute to tension and stress in the body. By realigning the spine and promoting relaxation, spinal manipulations can help reduce the production of stress hormones such as cortisol. Lower stress levels have been linked to improved mood, sharper mental acuity, and better emotional regulation.
• Stimulation of the Vagus Nerve: The vagus nerve, which runs from
the brainstem to the abdomen, plays a crucial role in regulating the autonomic nervous system, influencing heart rate, digestion, and respiratory function. Spinal manipulations, particularly those targeting the cervical spine (the neck), have been shown to stimulate the vagus nerve. This can lead to a cascade of benefits, including improved brain function, enhanced cognitive performance, and better overall body regulation.
Spinal Manipulation and Optimal Health
Beyond brain function, spinal manipulation is also associated with a range of benefits that contribute to optimal health. These benefits can impact several aspects of well-being, including physical, mental, and emotional health.
• Pain Relief and Mobility: Chronic pain—whether in the back, neck, or joints—can significantly hinder an individual's quality of life. Spinal manipulations are commonly used to alleviate pain and improve mobility by addressing misalignments that contribute to discomfort. When pain is managed effectively, individuals are better able to engage in physical activity, which further enhances overall health and vitality.
• Improved Posture: Posture plays a significant role in overall health. Poor posture can lead to misalignments in the spine, resulting in discomfort, poor circulation, and even headaches. Spinal manipulation can help restore proper alignment, which, in turn, encourages better posture. Maintaining good posture not only supports the spine but also promotes optimal organ function, better breathing, and improved confidence.
• Boosted Immune System: Spinal manipulations have been shown to support immune function by enhancing the nervous system's ability to communicate with the body. With the spine properly aligned, the body is better equipped to fight off infections, reduce inflammation, and promote overall health. Regular spinal adjustments can help ensure that the immune system functions optimally, which may lead to fewer illnesses and a quicker recovery from sickness.
• Emotional Well-being: The mind-body connection is powerful. Spinal manipulation can positively influence mood, reduce feelings of anxiety, and improve mental clarity. Many individuals report feeling more relaxed, balanced, and energized after receiving spinal adjustments. By reducing tension and promoting overall physical health, spinal manipulation creates a foundation for mental and emotional well-being.
The Science Behind Spinal Manipulations
While many of the benefits of spinal manipulation are widely acknowledged by chiropractic professionals and patients alike, research into its impact on brain function is still evolving. However, some studies have shown promising results. For example, a study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal adjustments can improve brain function, including cognitive performance and mood regulation. Other studies have indicated that spinal manipulations can increase the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which are crucial for mood regulation and cognitive health.
Recent research has been published to help us fully understand the intricate mechanisms at play, the evidence so far supports the idea that

spinal manipulations have a profound effect on brain function and overall health.
Spinal manipulation is not just about relieving pain or improving mobility—it's about optimizing brain function and supporting overall health. By addressing misalignments in the spine, spinal manipulations promote better nervous system communication, improve blood flow to the brain, reduce stress, and stimulate key brain-regulating pathways like the vagus nerve. The result is a more balanced and energized body, which can lead to enhanced cognitive abilities, improved physical health, and a greater sense of well-being.
If you're seeking a holistic approach and biohack to improving your brain function and overall health, spinal manipulation might be just what you need. Cooking with Herbs >>>
Lemon Herb Butter Chicken with Garlic & Herb Riced Cauliflower
Herbs are beautiful and accentuate the look of a dish, but oftentimes the nutritional value is overlooked. Anytime I cook I like to use a combination of herbs. If you aren’t using herbs you’re definitely missing out. Herbs not only give a missing flavor but also keep meals from missing out on health benefits. Eating nutritiously does not have to be devoid of flavor. Some of the most common herbs can help with a variety of ailments. For example, this dish uses sage and tarragon. Tarragon has been shown to assist with digestion by stimulating gastric juices and reducing inflammation in the body. Sage is rich in antioxidants and assists with protecting the cells in our bodies from free radicals. Sage also has been shown to aid with lowering cholesterol levels and boosting metabolism among other things. The wonderful world of herbs is vast, giving you a multitude of options and flavor profiles to explore when you’re in the kitchen. The variety of herbs around the world offers limitless choices for healing your body naturally.
This dish is a great expression of herbaceous flavor. The riced cauliflower is a perfect side as it has a mild flavor profile that is enhanced by the herbs spices. The tarragon is very pungent but also yields a bit of sweetness. This sweetness provides great balance and works well with the savory elements of garlic and onion. The chicken is moist and juicy. It compliments the flavor of the sage garlic butter with the dried oregano and garlic salt. The lemon juice adds some much needed citrus to complete the flavor and zest to the profile of this dish. All together, the elements form a creative meal of expressed herbs, citrus and savoriness. Give this recipe a try and I’m sure you will agree: we need more herbs in our lives!

BROOKLYN BOWL LAS VEGAS
>>> YOUR INTUITION IS SPEAKING
Are you Listening?
Have you ever had a gut feeling about something? Maybe you’ve had a sudden nudge to take a different route home, an unexplained sense of unease around someone, or a strong urge to say yes to an opportunity, only to ignore it and later realize you were right all along? That’s your intuition at work. It’s that quiet inner voice that doesn’t rely on logic or analysis but guides you in ways that often defy explanation.
I remember a time when I had no logical proof for what I felt, but my intuition was loud and clear. Back in college, I was studying Portuguese when Brazil wasn’t the global powerhouse it is today. Someone once asked me, “What are you going to do with that?”, and while I didn’t have a concrete answer without hesitation, I replied, “I don’t know exactly what I’ll do with it, but I know that one day, someone will pay me to travel the world because of it.” At the time, it didn’t make sense, but I trusted the feeling. Ten years later, in a job that had not developed an international strategy, I was perfectly positioned to step in. I ended up traveling the world, including Brazil, to help individuals find specialized programs in the US.
In a world that prioritizes logic, data, and external validation, many of us have lost touch with this powerful inner compass. We second-guess ourselves, dismiss our instincts as irrational, or allow fear and doubt to override our deeper knowing. Luckily, this is a skill that anyone can develop.
What Is Intuition?
Intuition is often described as a “gut feeling,” an inner knowing, or an unexplained sense of certainty about something before logic or evidence can confirm it. At its core, intuition is your inner guidance system, operating beyond rational thought, picking up on subtle cues, energy shifts, and inner wisdom that may not be immediately obvious to the thinking mind. From a scientific perspective, intuition is often linked to the brain’s ability to process information at an unconscious level. From a spiritual perspective, intuition is often seen as a direct line to your higher self, spirit guides, or universal wisdom. Whether you view intuition as an instinctual brain function, a spiritual gift, or both, one thing is clear: everyone has it and our work is to trust and develop it.
Many people think intuition only appears in dramatic, lifechanging moments, like sensing danger before it happens or knowing instantly that someone is “the one.” But our relationship with intuition is up to us. One of my favorite ways to tune into intuition is through playful experiments. A friend and I once decided to test our intuitive guidance while searching for the perfect beach spot in South Florida. Parking near the beach is usually a nightmare, and we had no clear plan, just a shared desire for an easy, beautiful spot to sit and chat.
By Ilona Pamplona
Instead of overthinking it, we let intuition lead. My friend chose a color (turquoise green) and we simply followed where it appeared.First, we spotted a van with that color and followed it. Then, we saw a storefront sign in the same hue, so we turned. In the distance, a tall building with turquoise-green details caught our eye, seemingly near the beach, so we drove toward it. When we arrived, we discovered a public beach with plenty of (free!) parking—something nearly unheard of in the area.
This moment became a reminder that intuition doesn’t always have to be serious—it can be an adventure, a practice of trust, and even a game.
Take a moment to think about a time when you followed your intuition, even if it didn’t make logical sense at the time. What happened? How did your body feel at that moment? Did you experience any signs or synchronicities along the way?
Now, think of a time when you ignored your intuition. What were the signs you dismissed? How did things turn out?
The more you reflect on past experiences, the easier it becomes to recognize the voice of intuition in real time. Keep a small journal where you write down intuitive nudges, no matter how small. Over time, you’ll start seeing patterns in how intuition speaks to you.
Types of Intuition: Which One Do You Have?
While intuition can show up in everyday decisions and experiences, it also has distinct ways of communicating with us. These intuitive senses, often called the 'Clairs,' help us understand how we naturally receive inner guidance. Most people have one or two dominant intuitive senses, but we all can develop multiple forms of receiving intuition.. Which of these feel familiar to you?
Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing): This is the ability to receive intuitive messages in the form of images, symbols, visions, or dreams. Clairvoyants often get mental pictures that provide insight or guidance.
Clairaudience (Clear Hearing): This is the ability to receive intuitive messages through words, sounds, or inner dialogue. Some people hear guidance in their own mind, while others may hear actual sounds or voices externally.
Clairsentience (Clear Feeling): This is the ability to sense energy, emotions, or physical sensations intuitively. Clairsentients often pick up on people’s moods, the “vibe” of a place, or even physical sensations connected to someone else’s experience.
Clairalience (Clear Smelling): This is the ability to receive intuitive messages through scents that have no physical source. These scents often carry deep meaning or provide guidance.
Clairgustance (Clear Tasting): This is the ability to receive intuitive messages through taste, even when not eating or drinking anything. Often, this ability connects to mediumship or deep emotional memories.
Clairtangency (Clear Touching, or Psychometry): This is the ability to receive intuitive information through touch, particularly from objects or places. People with clairtangency can pick up the history, energy, or emotions imprinted on physical items.
Some people strongly identify with one Clair, while others experience a mix. The key to strengthening your intuition is noticing which form of inner guidance naturally comes to you. Intuition is like a muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets. The more you pay attention to how it speaks to you, the clearer its messages become.
Your intuition is always speaking to you through images, feelings, words, scents, or even unexpected nudges that don’t seem logical at first. The more you listen, the clearer its messages become.
Think back to times when your intuition led you in the right direction. Maybe it was a gut feeling that saved you from a bad decision or an unexplainable sense of knowing that guided you toward something amazing. Those moments weren’t coincidences, they were proof that your inner wisdom is always there, ready to guide you.
The challenge isn’t whether you have intuition, it’s whether you trust it. Learning to follow your inner voice can feel unfamiliar at first. THE TEMPLE RADIANCE LIFESTYLE with Gia
What does it mean to you to explore consciousness? More importantly perhaps- how do you define consciousness? The way I see it, consciousness is everything that is. Dolores Cannon, a very powerful spiritual teacher who has now made her transition said that everything is consciousness, even a strand of carpet. This made me think for a moment. How can a strand of carpet have consciousness? I got down on the floor, looked closely at my carpet and said “hello, are you there?”. Her work in this field has shaped humanity, especially the way I have come to know, feel and explore consciousness. You have the ability to raise your consciousness. You have the ability to create any reality you choose.
I’m sure you’ve heard this before: you are the creator of your reality. What does that really mean? It means that you are a frequency being. You vibrate at a level of frequency, you might say high or low for understanding, and it might be easier to look at it as we vibrate at either a state of love or fear. This concept goes back to many of the sacred texts and books written and one that many have heard of “A Course in Miracles”, or “Conversations with God”. These books are channeled works and speak of everything we do, every thought we have, every action we take has a sponsoring thought or frequency, and that is either love or fear. Keep in mind, they both have many faces such as joy, ecstasy, bliss, harmony, and conversely, jealousy, envy, despair, grief - the many faces and emotions on the spectrum.
In the interest of supporting your evolution and providing tools and resources to enhance your path to enlightenment, I’d like to provide some reflections and invitations:
• Reflect on how you have perceived “consciousness” and what it means to you
• Invitation to accept that you are the creator of your reality. There is no one coming to save you or give you a better life.
• Reflect on actions, decisions and conversations you have and as yourself on the deepest level, can you connect with, “am I coming from love or fear?”
See you next month as we continue our exploration. Welcome to the WHOLE YOU, my name is Gia, I’ll be your tour guide.

YOUR MOISTURIZER IS WORKING AGAINST YOU
Why You Need Tallow
The word "tallow" might make you think of old-school candle-making or something your great-grandmother used to cook with, but did you know that it’s actually one of the most powerful, skin-nourishing ingredients on the planet?
Tallow’s made quite the comeback in the skincare world, and not just among the crunchy DIY crowd. Dermatologists, estheticians, and beauty experts have all taken notice. And for good reason. The beauty industry is finally catching up to what our ancestors knew all along: with its perfect balance of vitamins, essential fatty acids, and deeply moisturizing benefits, tallow is unmatched when it comes to skin health.
What Exactly Is Tallow?
At its core, tallow is simply rendered fat, most commonly from cows. While that might initially conjure mental images of greasy, heavy goop, high-quality, grass-fed tallow is nothing like the overly processed fats found in cheap commercial skincare. When sourced properly, with minimal processing, it becomes a luxuriously rich, deeply penetrating moisturizer that’s packed with nutrients your skin craves.
And one of the most mind-blowing facts about tallow is that it’s nearly identical to human sebum, the oil our skin produces naturally. So, instead of sitting on the surface like so many commercial moisturizers do, tallow penetrates deep into the skin to deliver hydration where it’s actually needed.
Most modern skincare is filled with water, fillers, and synthetic emulsifiers that create the illusion of hydration, until they evaporate and leave your skin drier than it was before. Tallow, on the other hand, works with your skin, not against it. No artificial barriers. No unnecessary additives. Just pure, skin-loving nourishment.
The History of Tallow
Before lab-made lotions and synthetic serums, humans had one go-to for skincare: animal fats. In fact, tallow’s use in skincare dates back thousands of years. Sometime around 2500 BC, ancient Egyptians would blend animal fats like tallow with botanical extracts for skin protection against the harsh desert climate. By the 1st century AD, Romans were incorporating tallow-based ointments into their self-care rituals to heal wounds and nourish skin. In medieval Europe, tallow-based balms and soaps became common among both peasants and nobility. Meanwhile, Indigenous cultures in North America were using rendered animal fats to shield their skin from extreme weather conditions. And when they needed additional healing, they mixed tallow with herbs, much like we do today.
The second wave of tallow’s popularity started gaining traction in the early 2000s when the real food movement took off. The focus on whole, unpro-
cessed foods started prompting folks to ask themselves, “If I shouldn’t eat toxic chemicals, then why would I want to slather them on my skin?”
Fast forward to current times, where online talk of tallow in skincare has been steadily rising, and for good reason. Consumers are getting smarter about what they put on their skin and starting to question the long ingredient lists on commercial products.
Now, well in the midst of the clean beauty revolution, tallow is reclaiming its rightful place as an essential skincare ingredient, and leading more people than ever to discover its unrivaled benefits.
Why Tallow is the Holy Grail of Moisturizers
If you haven’t already swapped out your drugstore lotion for tallow, let’s talk about what it actually does for your skin:
Deep hydration: Unlike water-based creams that evaporate, tallow locks in moisture, and does a great job of keeping your skin hydrated all day long.
Skin barrier support: Tallow strengthens the skin’s natural protective layer, while reducing skin sensitivity.
Rich in fat-soluble vitamins: It’s a natural source of vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support skin health, healing, and elasticity.
Balances oily & acne-prone skin: Because it mimics human sebum, tallow can help regulate oil production rather than overcompensating and causing breakouts.
Anti-aging & skin repair: Tallow is packed with antioxidants that help fight free radicals and promote smooth, youthful skin.
Perfect for sensitive skin: No fillers or synthetic chemicals means no irritation. Just pure nourishment.
Bonus: It’s Sustainable!
One of the most overlooked benefits of tallow is its sustainability. As a natural byproduct of the beef industry, tallow is made by using parts of the animal that might otherwise go to waste, so it’s an incredibly eco-friendly ingredient. Unlike commercial skincare products that rely on petroleum-based or synthetic ingredients, tallow is biodegradable and zero-waste-friendly when sourced responsibly. So, when you choose grass-fed tallow, you get to nourish your skin while also supporting sustainable farming practices.
While tallow may boast some incredible benefits, let’s talk about why it’s so imperative for you to get the right tallow.
Grass-Fed or Nothing: Why the Source Matters
Not all tallow is created equal. If you're going to use tallow on your skin, grass-fed is the only way to go.
Why? Because cows that are grass-fed are eating what they were biologically designed to eat, which results in a significantly healthier fat profile.
Their tallow is richer in vitamins A, D, E, and K, powerful antioxidants and essential fatty acids.
Factory-farmed, grain-fed cows, on the other hand, produce fat that is loaded with inflammatory omega-6s and often contains traces of hormones, antibiotics, and other toxins. If you wouldn’t eat heavily processed, factory-farmed meat every day, why would you want to slather its byproducts all over your skin? Your skin absorbs everything you put on it, so quality absolutely matters.
Once high-quality tallow is sourced, it undergoes a refining process, called “rendering”, to remove impurities while maintaining its nutrients. This involves slowly heating raw animal fat to separate the pure fat from any remaining connective tissue or impurities. Unrefined tallow can have a strong beefy aroma, which many people find off-putting, but refined tallow provides all the same skin-loving benefits without the smell. When done correctly, rendering also preserves tallow’s bioavailability and richness, so it remains deeply nourishing.
Ready to Try Tallow For Yourself?
I, too, started questioning why so many skincare products were loaded with synthetic ingredients. Why was something as simple as moisturizer packed with so many fillers and random chemicals I can’t even pro-
nounce? I wanted skincare that actually worked with my body, not against it. Something simple, real, and effective. And that’s how American Farmacy was born.
Our tallow-based products blend lab-tested, high-quality grass-fed tallow with herbs and oils that enhance skin healing and hydration. This is especially true when it comes to our Golden Glow Tallow Face & Body Butter, a radiance-boosting infusion of chamomile, calendula, mango butter, and vitamin E for glowing, even-toned skin.

>>> Spring Cleaning for the Soul
Letting Go of Emotional Baggage
As spring awakens the world with its vibrant bloom, I find myself reflecting on loved ones who have passed. With each new flower that blossoms, I wonder if they are saying hello, reminding us that life is precious and should never be wasted.
It often takes tragedy or the death of a loved one to shake us awake and make us see how fragile life really is. In those moments, we solemnly promise to ourselves to start truly living rather than merely existing. We savor life and the joy of being alive for a while, but daily routines and responsibilities inevitably take over, and we forget that vow.
There's an old cliché: "Live as if today were your last." While inspiring, this is not always practical. We have bills to pay, jobs to keep, kids to raise, and obligations to fulfill. The challenge is not to let these responsibilities overshadow the joy of living. It's about finding a balance, about learning to live fully without waiting for death to remind us of what's important.
Why does death have such power over us? Is it the reminder of our mortality or the uncertainty of what comes next? We all know that death is a part of life, yet many of us (myself included) waste precious time clinging to anger, resentment, and bitterness. Why is it so difficult to let go? Perhaps one of the hardest things we will ever do in life is release the emotional baggage we carry.
I've battled mental health struggles all my life. Growing up, mental health wasn't openly discussed, and the emotional burdens I accumulated as a child were never addressed. These burdens included feelings of inadequacy, fear of abandonment, and a deep sense of unworthiness. By the time I reached my teenage years, those burdens grew heavier, intrusive thoughts became routine, and at times, I questioned if I wanted to keep going. The sorrow I felt and the toll of those emotions that I carried affected my mental health and the choices I made in life. I didn't seek help until my forties, and while I can blame my circumstances, I also hold myself accountable for not taking that step sooner.
We all carry emotional baggage, and over time, it becomes exhausting. The only way to lighten the load is through acceptance and forgiveness, which starts with ourselves. If we refuse to let go or get help for our baggage, resentment and grudges take root, weighing us down even more. Yet, the sad truth is that holding onto pain often feels easier than confronting it. Releasing baggage requires revisiting past wounds, facing hard truths, and enduring emotional discomfort. I know for myself, at the time, I thought I could learn to live with it without confronting it, but I found myself trapped in a cycle of pain.
I finally realized that emotional baggage doesn't disappear on its own. I had to take a hard look in the mirror and dive into selfreflection. After that, I had to hold myself and others accountable for choices that created the baggage, and most importantly, I had to want to heal for myself and no one else. Once I had the proper mindset, I needed the tools to work towards the healing process. For instance, journaling about past experiences, confronting those who have harmed us, practicing mindfulness to stay present, and seeking professional help can be practical tools to light our emotional baggage. Still, we must accept that we may never get answers to the "why question," meaning why the baggage was created.
The sad reality is some people think carrying emotional baggage may seem more manageable because it's familiar (I know I felt so at one point in my life). However, unburdening ourselves of our baggage is where true freedom lies. Yet, it takes work. Revisiting the past, addressing unresolved emotions, admitting our mistakes, and facing the pain that lingers in our triggers is a huge task. This process is daunting, but it's necessary for growth. I've learned that healing is not about forgetting or erasing pain; it's about learning to live alongside it without allowing it to control us.
Growing up, teachers and television told me I could be anything and that the world was my oyster. What they failed to mention was that life would always come with baggage. To live fully is to embrace our passions while carrying
By Steven Dee Kish
our negative experiences. To love is to share life with someone.... along with our emotional baggage and theirs. To grow is to acknowledge our mistakes and move forward despite our baggage. To accept life as it is means making peace with the weight we bear rather than pretending it doesn't exist.
Success and failure do not erase our baggage; they shape how we carry it. If we think that our burdens and baggage will disappear one day, we will be waiting forever. For those who suffer from mental health issues, our mission statement should be: we will not allow our emotional baggage to dictate our actions or limit our potential. The most successful people are not those without baggage but those who have learned to carry them with grace and resilience, facing life's challenges with courage and determination.
Life holds both joy and sorrow. To truly live, we must embrace both. Moments of happiness sustain us through times of grief, and we often need guidance to navigate these challenges. This guidance can come from friends, family, or professional therapists, and it can help us process our emotions and learn from our experiences. If we fail to process life's hardships, they solidify into the baggage we carry. Healing is an ongoing journey, not a onetime event.
Life is fleeting. We don't want to reach the end, still shackled by the past. We must seek healing, ask for help, and let go of what no longer serves us. We owe it to ourselves to live; we don't have to see someone die to start truly living. Each day offers an opportunity to lighten our load, embrace our experiences, and walk forward with purpose and peace. Remember, seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a courageous step towards healing. You are not alone in this journey.

What's the Tea on: Chamomile
The statements in this editorial are simply for informational purposes, entertainment, and objective research and do not represent the views or policies of the publication, or any other organization with which the author may be affiliated. They are also not to be viewed as personal medical care, but rather for the purpose of general knowledge. The author is not a medical professional. There are a handful of teas that have become standard in the average person’s mind. Even if you are not an herbalist, it has made its way into common knowledge. So let’s test it. When I ask for a calming tea, what would you give me? The yellow chamomile. Not always the first choice in taste for everyone, but always respected for its authority in benefits, chamomile has so many more (maybe even more prominent) benefits which we will discuss as we sip our tea.
What’s the Tea on Chamomile?
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla or Chamaemelum nobile), often hailed as the “plant of peace”, is an herb that has captured the hearts of healers, gardeners, and tea lovers alike. Known for its calming effects, depending on the variety, it can have a pleasant apple-like fragrance and an array of health benefits. Chamomile is one of the most cherished plants in both traditional and modern herbal medicine. Whether brewed as a soothing tea, used in skincare, or grown as a fragrant and pollinator friendly addition to the garden, chamomile’s versatility and effectiveness have made it a staple for thousands of years.
Recorded in the Oldest Medical Books Known Chamomile’s journey through history stretches back to ancient civilizations, where it was revered for its healing properties. Those from Kemet (ancient Egypt) were among the first to recognize chamomile’s value, incorporating it into their healing rituals and using it to treat conditions like fever, digestive issues, and skin ailments. Chamomile’s golden-yellow flowers, symbolize the warmth of the sun, which they associated with ‘Ra’. The herb’s esteemed role was so significant that it was mentioned in the Ebers papyrus which is a documentation of herbal medical knowledge dating to c. 1550 BC.
Naturally the sharing of information to Greece and Rome, it was renowned by physicians such as Hippacrates and Galen who praised chamomile for ailments particularly those related to the digestive and reproductive systems. The Latin name Matricaria, derived from the word matrix meaning “womb,” reflects the plant’s connection to female health, particularly in addressing menstrual issues and childbirth-related concerns. Throughout medieval Europe, chamomile was considered a sacred herb, revered for its ability to heal both body and spirit. People often grew it in their gardens, using it to treat everything from colds and fevers, to insomnia. Chamomile’s reputation for healing is so widespread that it was even believed to have restorative powers for plants, earning it the affectionate nickname, “the plant’s physician.” This is valid as it is seen as a companion plant in gardening, which means they support nutrients through the roots while attracting beneficial insects. They also serve as a natural pest deterrent while enhancing the flavor of certain plants and promoting healthier growth and reducing stress to maintain a healthy ecosystem.
Grows Like an (Adorable) Weed
Chamomile is a low-growing flower herb which typically reaches heights
between 1-2 feet. Its delicate daisy-like flowers love sunlight and well drained sandy soils (wonderful for Las Vegas). They are easy to maintain with minimal care and attention required, however they should be watered consistently especially during dry spells. The white petals surrounding a yellow central bulb are so beneficial for your garden and body. Chamomile can self-seed in the right conditions allowing it to naturally spread throughout the garden. The two common varieties are Matricaria chamomilla (German chamomile), and Chamaemelum nobile (Roman chamomile), both of which share similar medicinal benefits.
Compounds with Results
Chamomile’s therapeutic effects are attributed to its rich array of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, and essential oils. I will mention a few of the most notable. Starting with apigenin, which is a flavonoid that binds to benzodiazepine receptors in the brain. Apegenin is responsible for chamomile’s calming and mild sedative effects. It also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Bisabolol is a terpene alcohol found in the essential oil of this flower and this is what gives chamomile its antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties making it effective for skin care products. Another noteworthy compound is chamazulene which is a compound that is a deep-blue color (found also in wormwood and yarrow), and is known for its soothing effects internally and externally such as for eczema, anti-allergy, and shown to reverse osteoarthritis inflammation. Together these compounds work synergistically to create chamomile’s calming and healing effects.
I am happy to say that we have chamomile in a few of our High Tech Healing herbal blends and you can learn more about them when you visit
us at the market. We have also included chamomile in a few of our tea bath soaks to help during times of illness for yourself or children, skin repair, or even soothing unwind time. The calming and healing nature of chamomile is also used as an incense with the fragrance supporting a peaceful atmosphere.
Best known for its calming effects, drinking some chamomile tea or using the essential oil have been shown to help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. Some folks have higher or lower tolerances being all they need as a sedative (for stronger blends I have Inner Peace to add layers of support for stress relief and sleep support). Chamomile is rich in flavonoids such as luteolin that also support its overall therapeutic effects. It is a gentle analgesic which means it can relieve mild pain and discomfort, particularly headaches, muscle tension, or menstrual cramps. Whether infused in water, or oil for a massage, chamomile is supportive for alleviating discomfort both physically and emotionally.
While it is mostly known for its relaxation support, chamomile has long been recognized for its ability to soothe digestive complaints. It does this by relaxing the muscles in the digestive tracts, making it a great remedy for bloating, gas, and cramps. It has antispasmodic properties that are particularly beneficial for relieving discomfort caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and constipation. It’s also a gentle remedy for nausea and vomiting.
The last highlight as mentioned from the ancient texts, is skin care support. It is an excellent option for various skin conditions. It reduces redness, promotes tissue repair and is often found in creams, lotions, and ointments for ailments such as psoriasis, rashes, or even minor burns. Its gentle nature makes it safe for sensitive skin, including that of children.
(Preferred over commonly used lavender which isn’t often realized but it can sometimes be too harsh). I always recommend taking the herbs internally as well as externally whenever addressing skin issues, as the skin is basically just a sign post. To learn more visit our website hightechhealing.org
Unwind and Restore with your Tea
Chamomile’s extensive medicinal uses have earned it a place as one of the most popular natural remedies worldwide. From digestive health to stress relief and skin care, chamomile offers numerous benefits for both the body and mind. Safety considerations are important to mention with any herbs; people with allergies to plants in the Asteraceae family (such as ragweed, daisies, or chrysanthemums) should avoid chamomile. This is an indicator to further support your immune system so that you have fewer nutritional threats.
Chamomile is more than just a calming cup of tea- it is a powerful time-tested remedy with a rich cultural and medicinal legacy. Based on its benefits it can be seen as a symbol of peace and healing. This humble yet powerful herb has proven itself time and time again, earning its place as one of the most trusted and cherished plants in the world of natural medicine.
