Major Progress on I-73/I-74 Bypass Project in Rockingham
The current I-73/I-74 Bypass project in Rockingham, NC is now 3 years into construction. The project is steadily progressing from the southern part of the site moving north. The three bridges shown in the photos at left and below have been completed, along with the fine grading, and crews are now focused on paving operations.

Of the 7.3 million total cubic yards of excavating on the project, only one million remains. Embankment operations continue on the north half of the project to finalize the few remaining fills.
Soil stabilization and paving on the current US-74 westbound lanes will allow the transfer of traffic to exit from a new ramp. That ramp will lead to US-74 Business going into downtown Rockingham.
