2021 – Year in Review (First Team
FIRST TEAM REVIEW: 2021!
What a year it’s been for our First Team here at Vauxhall Motors Football Club. There’s been highs and lows around the football club for McGraa’s side, who compete in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division, with the likes of Macclesfield Football Club, Prestwich Heys AFC, and Northwich Victoria.

Following two seasons of disappointment for the Motormen, due to the null and void of the seasons due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, McGraa’s side bounced back and managed to achieve promotion due to a reshuffling of the NonLeague Pyramid from the Football Association in the UK.
This meant that after seasons of hard work, unbeaten runs and so many highs for the club, we had finally done it- we had achieved promotion from the North West Counties Division One – South, up to the NWC Premier Division. This was massive for the club, and it meant that so many positives were coming our way, but we knew that this new league was not going to be easy. A team to watch in this division were both promotion teams, ourselves, and AFC Liverpool from the Division One North, but also a phoenix team, Macclesfield FC, owned by Robbie Savage, who had gone into liquidation in the EFL and had folded, to a team reborn. Macc currently sit top of our league, just a few points in front of Skelmersdale United, at the time of writing.
It hasn’t been an easy ride though for McGraa’s side so far this season, with 25 games played, won 9, drawn 4 and lost 12. Some of these draws and losses could have easily turned into wins, though, with late losses at the likes of Burscough, Northwich Victoria at home, Macclesfield away and others.
The second part of the season, heading into 2022, include some massive fixtures, with the likes of the Macron Cup and the Cheshire Senior Cup competitions, and in the league too, with Macclesfield FC, Barnoldswick and Ashton Athletic and more visiting the vanEupen Arena, and us visiting other sides such as AFC Liverpool and Litherland REMYCA, just to name a few.
Hopefully, we can start getting a few more points on the board and pushing up that league table in 2022!
