Mark is age group co-ordinator for the U11’s, along with manager of his side, and has been around the club for around 11 years, with his children also passing through our youth teams, going on to playing at academy levels.
Mark’s side also entered the Vauxhall Motors FC Christmas Tournament on Wednesday, 29th December, 2021, where he won the tournament, scoring over 15 goals and conceding 0 in 5 games, losing 0, drawing 0, and winning all five of his games in between the Group Stages, the Semi-Finals and the Finals.
When asked about how Mark’s side is doing, he replied, “Very well. I’ve had this group now since they were about four or five years old, we’ve obviously added players as we’ve gone on but predominantly the core group has stayed together, and we’re merging into a really good team now.”
“My Highlight of 2021 with this side has got to be reaching the Junior Premier League (JPL) National Cup Finals, in London, back in the summer, we qualified as Northern Champions, beating a team from Doncaster, in Yorkshire, and the following week, we played down in London. Unfortunately, we never won, but the boys gave a really good account of themselves on the day. It was a great experience and it was nice for the lads to get away and play together and bonding, having to stay over in a hotel, which isn’t an opportunity they get every week! The next step and ambitions for 2022 is obviously to go that one step further and win the trophy this summer!”
When talking about pathways to professional football clubs, Mark added, “The team has really gelled well and with our core group staying together is good, but about seven of our squad have gone off to join academies, about 4 or 5 of which have been Premier League academies. It’s a great pathway for kids to get into academies like that, starting here at Vauxhall Motors FC.”
