The Final Buzzer On BAL
Over A Week of excitement, drama, politics, adrenaline, entertainment, music and Basketball, The BAL Kalahari Conference Has come to an end.
Basketball in South Africa as a sport still has a long way to go, but as a culture it has made great strides, and we witnessed this throughout a week of breath-taking basketball in Pretoria.
Sometimes words are not enough to show you how amazing something will be, and at the opening press conference I really saw a bunch of suits speaking about their excitement and their plans, little did we know that deep inside the boardrooms there was already a war being fought while putting together what was to be the most exciting and most energetic basketball conference in BAL history
Speaking about the culture of basketball in South Africa, we saw it being reflected in numbers that came out to support the sport Three out of the six days were sold out at Sunbet Arena The energy was on another level, and as a player that is the energy you tap into even when you feel like you cannot push anymore The fashion, or should I say the swag (if that is what the cool kids still say these days) was on a different level
Looking at the conference just in summary, Fus De Rabat by far came to war ready to die on that court, and don't forget that they took on this conference while fasting, and that says a lot about them Opening the conference with a win and close it with a win made the entire team of Fus De Rabat the MVPs of the Kalahari Conference, but there is a man called Jonathan Jordan is one of the hardest working athletes I have seen in my life.
Losing only one game to Petro De Luanda, Fus De Rabat came into Sunday's final game with clear intentions, even though the Cape Town Tigers did not make game easy seeing that Fus De Rabat could only start dominating late in the third quarter and taking full control in the fourth quarter With such a display of dominance, Fus De Rabat looks set to be one of the
favorites going into the Rwanda finals, even though there are two more conferences still to come, they have already made their mark on the BAL 4 stage
Not looking beyond the other teams contributions Dynamo delivered one passionate performance before bad and unfortunate politics ruined what was set to be an introductory tournament for them as they came to South Africa with a heart-warming story of a hard fought journey to be part of the twelve best basketball teams in Africa. Dynamo could not continue any further with Kalahari Conference due to a few rules they could not comply with.
Petro De Luanda is another team that came to South Africa to deliver a message, and that message was that they are not part of these twelve teams by mistake We saw this as they did not allow the Cape Town Tigers enjoy the opening weekend just like Fus De Rabat did This was further more proven by their victory against the table toppers, Fus De Rabat in a battle for the BAL history books
The local boys, the home team, the hosts, Cape Town Tigers were a mix bag of motions After two heart-breaking losses in the opening weekend of BAL 4, the Tigers could not tame Fus De Rabat in their third game as Fus De Rabat handed them their heaviest defeat of the conference, but like a true South African team, the fighting spirit was still alive as they defeated Petro De Luanda in the closing weekend to give the home crowd something to cheer for on Sunday
With an electrifying and passionate crowd filling the Sunbet Arena, the Tigers started the game against Fus De Rabat strongly and for a while looked like they would even out the conference wins for everyone, but it was not time to finish their story yet as Fus De Rabat came back to take final victory of the Kalahari Conference.
In the midst of all this adrenaline and passion, music was also the center of the conference. Day one had Daliwonga getting every lady in the arena screaming with his performance, and that set the stage and bar quite high for the other performers The less we talk Musa Keys, the better, but Priddy Ugly brought in that raw rap feel to the games Young Stunna took over

day three of the conference and gave people hope with imithandazo, before Nadia Nakai showed us how the ladies can dominate the stage when they want to
The closing weekend was definitely a big one as the intellectual lyricist, Maglera Doe Boy came through with his classic and legendary performance and Zee Nxumalo lit up the stage with her energy; and to shut everything down, Cassper Nyovest continue to proof that he still enjoys a dose of support and he had the crowd on the feet screaming from the bottom of their lungs.
Ladies and gentlemen, the BAL came to South Africa to host the Kalahari Conference and the response was massive from the South African public Basketball as a sport definitely still a long way to go, but the culture is alive and ready to take over

Chadwin Hadjie Wins Biggest
Spinning Title In SA

Chadwin ‘Boksie’ Hadjie wowed the local crowd and the judges to claim his first Red Bull Shay’iMoto title
The Mother City came alive with smoke and tyre-burning action on Saturday 16 March as it hosted an action-packed fifth edition of Red Bull Shay’iMoto. The unique motorsport event, featuring South Africa’s best spinning drivers was won by local Chadwin ‘Boksie’ Hadjie.
“This is the most amazing feeling,” the elated Capetonian, who finished runner-up in 2021, said after the win. “I’ve been fighting hard over the past few years and finally the win has come,” he added.
Following its hiatus in 2023, the event, recognised as the pinnacle of organised spinning events in the country, returned in 2024 and was hosted in Cape Town for the very first time The specially created venue in the carpark Canal Walk was sold out and saw a record-breaking 3300 people fill the grandstands The Mother City motorsport faithful were not disappointed and witnessed some amazing feats of carhandling and driving theatre through the specially designed course
The country’s top 16 drivers gathered on Friday 15 March for qualifying rounds which saw the field whittled down to the top eight These eight battled it out, all showing exceptional car control, technical skills, and flair In the end, Boksie left the four judges (Vernon ‘Veejaro’ Hendricks, Jeff James, Magesh Ndaba and Shahiem Bell) and the audience (who as a collective acted as the fifth judge using speciallycoloured LED wristbands to vote) on the edge of their seats as he outclassed the two-time defending champ, Samkeliso ‘Sam Sam’ Thubane was some amazing feats in the final battle.
“I was so impressed with the Cape Town crowd,” Boksie commented. “As soon as the car came out all I could see were blue lights they were amazing. Thank you!”
As motorsport goes, it wasn’t without its challenges for Boksie however: “On the first day out, we broke a steering rack The team fixed that, but we didn’t have any test runs, so I was happy to qualify for the top eight Then on Saturday, we broke our wheel studs, fortunately, my pit crew fixed that, along with a few other issues, and we could push through!”
Despite the competition, a strong spirit of camaraderie was palpable amongst the drivers. Because for them, it is not just a sport, it is a culture that binds them together. The next for this burgeoning motorsport is expanding the imprint beyond Mzansi’s borders.

Core Catering Celebrates Culture and Business Of People
Attending a gathering such as Hostex as a media organization, you come across a number of brands that make it clear that speaking to clients is their first priority, and we do not dispute that because media is also a business, and our business is to give information to people about brands they need to reach, and Core Catering looked to be one of the few brands that understood that.
Speaking to representatives of Core Catering, I found a company that knows its business very well, and above all that, a business that understands that business is about people.
Core Catering, a one stop stop shop for all your premium hospitality and catering products put up a showstopping display at Hostex 2024 Let's take a quick journey of this amazing company through conversations I had with them
Core Catering prides itself in being the best provider of absolute quality hospitality and catering products This process is a thorough one as they make sure that every product and every brand they bring into the country is of high quality standards and they guarantee that

Why would we be so sure about this quality, it is actually simple, and you do not have to be a hospitality or catering expert to realize this; you simple have to have an appreciation of good things in life
Being a person who likes to indulge in some beverages, I like my glassware to reflect what I'm sipping on, and that is not something that everyone gets right most of the time.
Having started at the Core Catering alcohol stand, which by the way is the new wing of the company, and hosted by a wonderful and infectious young lady called Belindah. One of the first things I commented on was the quality of the tasting glass and how it so strong, yet so light in weight that I wouldn't be thinking about how I would be enjoying my drink all the time
I have to admit that the first time I heard the word "moonshine", I was watching some movie I don't even remember, and when Belindah said "we also have moonshine", my curiosity got the better of me and I asked for a glass, and man I have to say that I was sold on it The cinnamon taste that comes through from that first sip hits you sharply, then eases you into enjoying the drink more, same goes for the spiced rum
The General Manager of the Cape Town branch of Core Catering took me through a short tasting of the Grappa and a brief introduction to the sister company of Core Catering, or what I referred to the new wing of Core Catering He highlighted the importance of having this new side of the company in the journey of introducing some new and exclusive brands of alcohol that you wouldn't generally find in the mainstream liquor stores. This new side of Core Catering is the definition of opening the door for those great innovators in the liquor space who want to introduce new ideas without having to go through unnecessary red tapes created to discourage people.

Also having had a conversation with Claire McGinnis about the overall culture of Core Catering, I got to understand how Core Catering is open and accessible to almost all sized companies in the hospitality and catering industries. This give a clear picture of a company that understands that without people, there is no business, so people are the most important commodity in the business space, and the hospitality and catering industries need people to stay alive.
With about six exclusive brands of glassware in the country, rim crack guarantee glassware, and high resistant products, Core Catering is undoubtedly the leader in being a supplier in the hospitality and catering industries
I can go on for hours and days speaking about the company and people running this company, but unfortunately we don't have enough pages in the magazine to do so, so you can easily visit the Core Catering website and see how you can stand out from everyone else or how you can be part of this amazing family through franchising
