Vandebilt Catholic High School Written by: Betsy Breerwood Several upgrades have been made to the Vandebilt Catholic campus over the past few years, but it was time to turn the attention to the inside of the aging classrooms and hallways of the 50+ year old school building. In the summer of 2020, capital improvement funds were dedicated to renovating two classrooms on the first floor. At the time, the lofty goal of raising funds to renovate all classrooms and hallways on the first floor by the summer of 2021 was set. It was time for the learning environment to match the caliber of its excellent teachers and students. The remodel project became the focal point of all fundraising efforts for the 20202021 school year through the advancement office, and with donations from events such as Tailgating in the Cloud, iGiveCatholic, and from personal donors who believed in the cause, all first-floor classrooms were funded for renovation and the “lofty” goal was met quicker than imagined. LED lighting, updated ceiling tiles, electrical upgrades, modern paint colors, and new window treatments will be installed in each classroom this summer. The lockers and mismatched ceiling tiles have been removed in the hallway, adding more space and clean lines. New flooring will also be installed in the hallways and classrooms. Seven classrooms will receive new “store front” double pane insulated windows, that are not only beautiful, but energy efficient. The goal is to integrate

these windows campus wide over the next 6-10 years. The Biology II / Physics lab is also getting a major overhaul through a donating partnership with Terrebonne General Health Systems. Other projects for the summer include pressure washing and painting the front of school. The old light blue lettering and awning will be painted the official branded royal blue color, which will modernize the building. The walkway ceilings between the front office and main school building are also getting an upgrade with weatherproof materials, instead of indoor ceiling tiles. The upgrades and renovations will be finished before the start of the school year, where the planning of the next phase of renovations will begin. We are moving on up to the second floor! Fundraising efforts for the 21-22 school year will continue to focus on classroom renovations until we have updated every classroom in the school! If you would like more information on the renovation projects and how to help, please contact Jeremy Gueldner, VCHS President at 985-876-2551.
