Sex & cyber bullying Education

This month, middle and high school students received a lesson about sex education. An external teacher came to teach an interactive and informational lesson regarding our bodies.

Grade 8 and 9 students also received cyber bullying education, and learnt about the importance of (kind words). Group activities with prizes for the winning team took place.

Community Missions Celebration On January 26th, the first Community Mission Celebration day took place. Following the active participation of the entire Valor community in the VIMUN conference, we had time to offer prayers for the mission sites, organized by each mission group. Students shared their prayer requests, expressing thoughts and concerns about their upcoming mission rips, and prayed together as a group.

Additionally, students took a moment to reflect on their previous mission trips with friends. We hope that this year's mission trip will provide a great opportunity to exchange our culture with the children there, and create unforgettable memories for both the kids and you.

Chinese New Year experience

I

n our Chinese class, students learned about Chun Jie (Spring Festival), a celebration that marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar, observed from February 10th to 17th.

Students got hands-on by making their own baozi for the New Year, a tradition in many Chinese families. Baozi, steamed buns, symbolize good luck and prosperity, making them a popular food choice during the festive season. In addition , students practiced writing fu letter using a maobi (brush). During Chinese New Year, it's customary to display the fu letter upside down, signifying luck and the pursuit of good fortune. The students had an great time experiencing Chinese culture, enjoying traditional Chinese food, and partaking in meaningful customs.

Ensemble club On December 23rd, 2023, the Valor Ensemble club created unforgettable memories through a beautiful performance with the local children's center. This rare opportunity allowed us to share precious moments, fostering a connection that goes beyond the ordinary. The significance of this event resonated deeply, as it's not often that such unique and meaningful collaborations take place. Even though the practice time was challenging, we made it! Thanks for these big opportunities.

Medical Club Join GPSA

VIS medical club is excited to inform that GPSA (Global Public Service Academy) is holding the 2024 summer program in Mae Sot, Thailand!

During the program, participants will have the opportunity to shadow healthcare professionals, attend lectures, and participate in basic medical interventions under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

This will allow students to develop experience especially for those who are interested in the sciences (including medical, pharmacy, and global health programs) and community service. Students who are focused on humanities, rather than STEM, should consider this opportunity and focus on the social and global impact.

GPSA This program is an excellent opportunity to gain medical knowledge and perform basic medical interventions while also immersing themselves in a different culture. Mae Sot is a beautiful town located in the western part of Thailand, near the border with Myanmar. It is known for its diverse community and rich culture. Participants will not only gain healthcare knowledge but also have the opportunity to experience the local culture and explore the beautiful atmosphere. SKI Club

The Valor ski club dedicated their time to volunteer as ski instructors with " ." During the first two days, they imparted skiing basics to elementary students who had no experience. For the following two sessions, the team had the satisfying opportunity to teach middle school students how to independently ski. Witnessing the children gain confidence and ski on their own was a rewarding experience.

Building connections and creating a fun learning environment added to the enjoyment of the teaching process. This volunteer work, in collaboration with , was not only fulfilling but also left the team looking forward to the possibility of another rewarding experience next year. The Valor ski team expresses gratitude to the local children's center for the invaluable opportunity provided.

Valor MUN Celebrating our missions day, the members of the VIMUN prepared a time to learn more about Valor’s mission sites.

MUN is an academic simulation of UN that provides students with real world issues in a perspective of a country. VIMUN held a conference for 2 hours and a half on January 26th, students were assigned to solve problems happening in Kenya, Philippines, Korea, Thailand and USA with a topic of “Universal access to clean water and sanitation” and “Quality education for all”.

Students underwent a training session on Jan. 17 and 24th for the upcoming conference. These sessions allowed the students to learn about the basic procedures of MUN and took the time to research about their missions locations.

During the conference day, students were divided into divisions of middle school, 9&10, and 11&12.

All the students were actively involved in the conference to sincerely solve the problems that are happening worldwidely.

As for the students that showed the most knowledge and participation were given the awards of Best delegate, Outstanding delegate and honorable mention from each division.

Despite not receiving awards, we appreciate your participation in the MUN conference and wish that it was an opportunity to be trained as global citizens.

Don't be so obsessed with grades while giving your best. No procrastination. My tip is to finish the assessment as soon as you receive it despite the due date. And the rest of them is yours.

VIS ALUMNI How did Valor help you as a person?

I think Valor has great teachers. Teachers like Mrs. Cho, Ms. Ko,, Mr. Chris, Mr. Fannin, etc. I think every teacher is great but these are the teachers that I believed that I was close with. This teacher was not only great at sharing their academic knowledge, they were great at giving life advice. I still remember Mrs. Cho making me grab a pencil when I was about to give up pre-calculus, Mr. Fannin who shared a great quote that will last forever in my life, and more and more.

How do you think Valor can help students prepare better for their life after school?

I would like to share a quote from Mr. Fannin. Which is something I believe will be helpful throughout life. “No matter where you go in this world, you will discover two truths that are indisputable. 1. People will try to tear you down for whatever reasons they believe are right (oddly enough, racists believe their viewpoint to be correct). You've experienced similar things here at Valor, and it will continue to happen no matter where you are. "Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the soul." -from my favorite poem called "Desiderata". 2. There are amazing people in this world. Their voices are usually quieter than the negative people, but if you listen closely and patiently enough, you will discover that they are always around you!”

Do you have any message for the remaining Valor students and staffs?

"If someone prays for patience, do you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If they prayed for courage, does God give them courage or does he give them opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for their family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, Or does he give opportunities to love each other?"
