Boutique Theatre Performing Arts Centre
The Boutique Theatre Performing Arts Centre opened its doors with great success in Colonia Emiliano Zapata, at the corner of Basilio Badillo and Naranjo streets, on February 15. The musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, directed by David Restivo, features 25 actors on stage. Last year, this cultural movement staged 14 highly successful shows at Cathy Von Rorh’s gallery. And the season before, they presented three performances at the Agustín Flores Contreras auditorium. They are undoubtedly the most successful theatrical movement in the region’s history. The founders of the project, which recently was converted to a non-profit cultural society, Ken and Karrie Sebryk, current president and artistic director respectively, together with architect Garry Carson, turned their vision of a theater in this new space into a reality. And it’s given them great satisfaction to see new people join the project and grow on stage, people of different generations and nationalities bonding through the magic of theater. With support from the local community, the Boutique Theatre will continue to add equipment and become more professional for both English and Spanish speakers interested in the arts of acting, music and dance. Planning to keep its doors open throughout the year, a new space in the building is being prepared for rehearsals and drama lessons, the ultimate goal being a more complete art center. JP El Boutique Theatre Performance Arts Center abrió sus puertas con gran éxito en la colonia Emiliano Zapata -entre Basilio Badillo y Naranjo- el pasado 15 de febrero con el musical “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” bajo la dirección de David Restivo, con 25 actores en escena. Este mismo movimiento cultural presentó con gran éxito 14 obras de teatro el año pasado en la galería de Cathy Von Rorh, además de una temporada previa de tres obras en el auditorio Agustín Flores Contreras, colocándole como un exitoso movimiento teatral sin precedentes en la región. Los fundadores del proyecto, que recientemente se convirtió en una sociedad cultural sin fines de lucro, Ken y Karrie Sebryk, actual presidente de la sociedad y director artístico respectivamente, junto con el arquitecto Garry Carson, visualizaron el teatro en este nuevo espacio y lo hicieron una realidad. Lo que les ha dado la satisfacción de ver gente nueva integrarse al proyecto, verlos crecer en el escenario. Personas de distintas generaciones y nacionalidades conviviendo bajo la magia del arte teatral. Con ayuda de la comunidad local, el Boutique Theatre seguirá equipándose y profesionalizándose para todos los anglosajones e hispanoparlantes interesados en el arte de la actuación, la música y la danza, con la intención de mantener sus puertas abiertas todo el año. Best Community Integration Project:
Punta de Mita Sports Field Two years in the making, the brand-new Punta de Mita Sports Field serving the adjoining towns of Corral del Risco, Emiliano Zapata and Higuera Blanca is both a feel-good story and one with a happy ending. The colossal endeavor, which involved both residents in the luxurious Punta Mita gated community and those in the aforementioned towns, created a sense of integration among them like no other previous community project. Concerned about the wellbeing of those living outside Punta Mita, one of the owners proposed creating a sports field for the towns. A feasibility study followed, and a price tag was determined. Combining contributions—in funding and expertise—from other owners, a budgetary goal was met, and a sustainability committee was established to ensure that the investment will be well taken care of in years to come. A fulltime sports director schedules field activities, providing recreational opportunities for local schools’ soccer players, including girls’ teams, while two fulltime employees maintain the grounds PO Después de dos años de planeación y construcción, finalmente abrió sus puertas el nuevo Campo Deportivo Punta de Mita, trayendo beneficios a los pueblos de Corral del Risco, Emiliano Zapata e Higuera Blanca. El importante proyecto, el cual involucró tanto a residentes del exclusivo desarrollo Punta Mita, así como a la ciudadanía de dichos poblados, creó un vínculo importante, en cuanto al proyecto comunitario se refiere. Preocupado por el bienestar de las comunidades aledañas a Punta Mita, uno de sus propietarios propuso la creación de un campo deportivo para los pueblos. Se realizó un estudio y se definió el costo del proyecto. Combinando donaciones, tanto económicas como de servicio y experiencia, por parte de los propietarios del desarrollo, se cumplieron las metas necesarias y se estableció un comité de sustentabilidad para asegurar que la inversión se mantenga en buenas condiciones en el futuro. Se contrató un director deportivo de tiempo completo para coordinar actividades deportivas para los equipos de soccer de las escuelas, incluyendo equipos de niñas, y dos empleados de tiempo completo se dedican al mantenimiento de las instalaciones. 36 | VALLARTA Lifestyles
