Seven Year Plan for Youth Employment 40 per cent cut in youth unemployment by 2021 targeted. Closer links between schools, college and employers will be at the heart of ambitious plans for a significant reduction in youth unemployment over the next seven years. The Scottish Government has published a new youth employment strategy to reflect the changing economic conditions and the publication of the report by the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce earlier this year. The Commission called for substantial changes to vocational education in Scotland and its recommendations on improved opportunities for vulnerable groups have informed the strategy’s aims to enable young people of all backgrounds to succeed in a stronger, fairer and more equitable society.

Eat Better Feel Better Campaign The Scottish Government’s Eat Better Feel Better campaign will launch on Thursday 8 January 2015 to inspire and support parents and families to make changes to how they shop, cook and eat, with the aim of improving their health. Thank you to everyone who has already been in touch with details of local initiatives that tie in with the campaign. We really appreciate the time you’ve taken to make us aware of what you’re doing to help people in your area. There’s still time to get in touch so don’t hesitate to drop us a note if you haven’t had a chance to do so yet. We have marketing collateral available for your community groups and local initiatives, including roller banners, recipe leaflets and posters as well as recipe fridge magnets, measuring spoons and branded food storage boxes. As always, if you have any ideas about how you might support the campaign or case studies which could be used for PR, we would be delighted to hear from you. The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 Why do I need to know about the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007? The Act places a duty on specified organisations to co-operate in investigating suspected or actual harm to adults at risk and introduces a range of measures e.g. to allow social work staff the right of access to talk to the adult and creates new legal orders such as assessment , removal or banning orders to support and protect them. This means that employees in private, voluntary and statutory sectors who come in contact with the public should have an awareness of how the Act can support and protect adults at risk of harm. Depending on your job and where you work you may require to have a degree of knowledge of the legislation to ensure your agency meets its duty under the Act or you may only need to know who the Act protects, what the Act means by the term harm and what signs to watch out for that could indicate that someone is being harmed. The training will give some detail about the legislation in context and will provide an opportunity to discuss practice issues and look at case examples. Date: Time: Venue:

28th January 2015. 9.30am - 12.30pm Barrhead HQ, Civic Room 1, Barrhead.

The training is free. Who Should Attend? The course is offered to all East Renfrewshire Council employees, CHCP staff, and voluntary and private sector staff working in the East Renfrewshire area who come into contact with the public. This session also provides an opportunity for those who have had some ASP Training in the past to refresh their knowledge. Send nominations to: Daniel.pettigrew@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk
