The Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Challenge Fund The Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Challenge Fund was launched in 2014 as one of the practical outcomes of an international Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade hosted by the UK Government. To date, around £5 million has been allocated through the Fund to 19 projects. The second round of this fund is now open to applications. The objective of the IWT Challenge Fund is to tackle the illegal wildlife trade and contribute to poverty alleviation in developing countries, through projects which address one, or more, of the following themes: • Developing sustainable livelihoods for communities affected by illegal wildlife trade. • Strengthening law enforcement and the role of the criminal justice system. • Reducing demand for the products of the illegal wildlife trade. Applications must come from an organisation, not an individual. Where organisations are working in partnership, there needs to be a lead organisation. Applicant organisations can be based in any country and must: • Have a credible record of working on similar types of projects. • Have demonstrated experience managing projects of a similar size. • Nominate a Project Leader who will be responsible for the technical direction of the project and be the main point of contact. The minimum length of a project is one year and the maximum length is three years two months (to coincide with the requirement for the budget commitment to end by 31 March 2018). The total funding available is around £4 million. The total project value should be a minimum of £50,000 and not exceed £500,000. This is to ensure value for money and to enable as many projects as possible to benefit. The deadline for applications is 12 October 2015. Full details on website

Funding Bupa UK Foundation The Foundation’s funding programmes will be developed around clearly defined themes and reflect important factors that underpin health and wellbeing. These include mental health, ageing well, managing long-term conditions, behaviour change and healthy living. Each round will focus on a different theme. The theme of the first funding programme is Mid-Life Mental Health and is open to not-for-profit organisations, including social enterprises and community interest companies, based and operating within the UK. The Foundation sees the mid-life period (defined as ‘from the late 20s to early 50s’ as a time of increased challenges, responsibilities and pressures in their working lives, family lives and relationships. The funding is for projects that aim to support and improve people’s mental health at this ‘critical life-stage’. Small grants of up to £10,000, medium grants of up to £50,000 and large grants exceeding £50,000 are available for practical projects or initiatives which will have a direct impact on people’s health and wellbeing. Projects should clearly address the theme of mid-life mental health and focus on one of the following priority areas: • Prevention - equipping people with the skills they need to monitor, maintain and improve their own mental health. • Early intervention - enabling people to access effective support directly and as soon as they become aware of their needs. • Integration - addressing the link between physical and mental health. The deadline for Expressions of Interest is 4 September 2015. Full details on website

UK registered charities are eligible to apply. Priority is given to smaller charities. The Trust is open to applications until a date in September when enough applications have been received. Full details on website Joseph Rowntree Foundation New calls have been issued as part of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Poverty and Ethnicity Programme. In Spring 2011, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) launched a five-year programme across the UK to increase understanding of the relationship between poverty and ethnicity with the intention of using the findings to develop more effective ways of tackling poverty across all ethnic groups in the UK. Now in its third phase, the JRF is preparing to develop an Anti-Poverty Strategy for the UK. As part of this Programme, it has launched the following four new calls: The Relationship Between Poverty and Stress, Low Level Anxiety and Depression Across the Life-Course This call is for proposals to carry out a multi-disciplinary evidence review of the relationship between poverty and stress, low level anxiety and depression across the life-course. The key questions to be addressed are: Does poverty cause stress, low level anxiety and depression? Do stress, low level anxiety and depression cause poverty? Projects should run for 6 months on a budget of £30,000, including VAT and expenses. The deadline for applications is 6 October 2015 (11:59pm).

Community-Led Approaches to Reducing Poverty: A Review Of International Development Evidence And Practice This is an open call for proposals to undertake a review of community led approaches to reducing poverty in neighbourhoods. International development seeks to implement long-term solutions to problems by working with developing countries to create the capacity needed to provide such sustainable solutions, and it is hoped techniques can be learnt from these models to replicate in the UK. A £20,000 project budget, including VAT and expenses, is available for one project only for four months. The deadline for applications is 22 September 2015 (11:59pm). Full details on website

The Fund is funded by the Scottish Government and will be managed by Spirit of 2012. Under the scheme, grants up to £70,000 will be available for projects that work to encourage physical activity in local communities in Scotland. Grants are only open to projects that are part of a Physical Activity Strategy group of a Community Planning Partnership (CPP). These are partnerships that bring public agencies together with the community to plan and deliver services. Applications must be endorsed by the relevant CPP with only one application from each CPP accepted. Projects will be supported between September 2015 and September 2016. Full details on website

Starbucks Youth Action Starbucks Youth Action aims to inspire and support 16 to 24 year olds who want to make a positive impact in their community. Young people in England, Scotland and Wales aged between 16 and 24 years who are not in education or employment can apply. Two young people need to lead the project and engage a further 50 young people throughout the course of the project. The young people will need to have a youth worker/training organisation able to support them throughout the project. Although the programme is primarily focused on young people not in education or employment; strong applications from other applicants will be considered. This year, the Starbucks Youth Action has become a rolling programme running with monthly deadlines from August 2015. Applications can be made at any time from July 2015 until February 2016.
