East Renfrewshire Collaborates VAER Third Sector Forum has changed. In order to be even more inclusive the forum has grown to incorporate other partners within the new East Ren Collaborates. We will continue to co-ordinate networking and discussion through two bi-annual events supplemented by our VA Academy – a flexible programme of smaller issues based information sessions.

VA Academy

The subject of March’s Academy is “Managing Volunteer Expenses.” For organisations, covering expenses often makes up a fair proportion of volunteering costs. So it’s important that you budget for them, and that expenses are treated correctly. Remember - volunteers are giving their time to you for free, so it’s helpful if they don’t have to cover other costs too. For people thinking about volunteering, any extra costs might put them off if they feel like they’ll not be able to afford it. In this session, we’ll look at what expenses should be covered, expense policies and procedures, and the benefits of Gift Aid. There will be an opportunity to ask questions too. Hope to see you there!

People, Homes, Brighter Futures

Every Council must produce a 5 year strategy for housing in their local area. This is the key housing plan for the area which considers all the “big issues” relating to our homes and the people living within them. The current East Renfrewshire Local Housing Strategy runs out in 2017 and must be replaced with a fresh plan. The purpose of this consultation is to give people the chance to tell us what they think is important and consider how we might deliver on that through the next 5 year strategy. In turn, it also provides an action plan for delivering these improvements - in partnership with other Council departments, organisations, community groups etc. We want to hear your views on the full range of housing services and issues which affect local people. Getting Involved https://getinvolved.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/housing-services/people-homes-brighterfutures We will also post details of related events as they are planned, and let you know of other ways you can get involved. If you would like to find out more, please contact us using the details provided below. Please contact East Renfrewshire Council’s Housing Strategy Team on 0141 577 8404 or via Strategy.Housing@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk Hard copies of this survey can be made available on request. Please contact us directly to arrange this. If you would prefer to respond to our survey by telephone, or face to face, please get in touch and we will be happy to arrange this for you.

Community Justice - Spring Clean 18th – 22nd April 2016 Do you have an outdoor area which is underused, perhaps blighted by litter, overgrown or generally in need of tender loving care and a shovel? East Renfrewshire Community Justice are offering the chance for a community group or organisation to nominate an area where a team of people undertaking community payback hours will spend a week ‘springing cleaning’. Although this service will not provide plants, new fencing etc, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring an area back to life or to turn an eye sore into a community asset. The team are fully supervised by East Renfrewshire Council staff and will bring their own equipment. Application form available from Lesley Anderson: Lesley@va-er.org.uk Completed forms returned by Wednesday 16th March. The winning site will be chosen by representatives from the ERC Criminal Justice.

Volunteer Friendly Award If you are an organisation that recruits, supports and manages volunteers, would you be interested in taking your organisation through the Volunteer Friendly Award? Many important services across East Renfrewshire wouldn’t exist without the support of volunteers and it is important that groups and organisations show how good they are at including and managing their volunteers. This award is a great way to demonstrate good volunteer involvement within your organisation or project which means that your volunteers feel supported and involved If you would like more information on this then please call Maria Hendry at Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire 0141 876 9555 or alternatively email me at maria. hendry@va-er.org.uk
