Welcome! We are so delighted that you are joining us bright and early on this Tuesday morning to celebrate the start of our 2019 Workplace Campaign. We have so much exciting news to share with you as we enter our 82nd campaign to positively impact our community. Today you will hear from our two amazing Community Champions — Dr. Pamela R. Edington, President of Dutchess Community College and Dr. Kristine M. Young, President of SUNY Orange. They will share real life stories of college students who are struggling to survive while working hard to attain their degree. Last year we learned about this critical issue directly from students facing financial hardship right here in our community. Unfortunately, students in our community experience homelessness, utility shutoff, food insecurity, transportation issues and other barriers that limit their financial stability. At United Way, we are committed to helping our community through establishing key partnerships and leveraging every dollar we can. In order to help college students who are struggling, we have set up a College Student Emergency Fund. We will be working with local schools (with a focus on our Community Colleges) to remove barriers to success, so that these hard-working students can continue focusing on their education. We are thrilled to honor two Champion Nonprofits this morning: The Art Effect and Cornerstone Family Healthcare. With support from United Way, The Art Effect is able to train Poughkeepsie students in the filmmaking trade, providing a stipend so students have a way of both learning a tangible skill while helping their families financially. Through our partnership, Cornerstone Family Healthcare is able to help homeless individuals and families in Orange County with prescription costs and medical transportation services. We are also celebrating the grand reopening of our nationally recognized Day of Sharing program. Thanks to Senator Sue Serino and the RL Baxter Building Corporation (as well as many other foundations and donors), the Day of Sharing and Louis Greenspan Children’s Corner spaces have been completely renovated. In addition, the exterior of our historic Market Street building received some crucial exterior improvements. With your support United Way touched the lives of 188,622 people last year. Each year we continue to expand what we do by listening to you. When you bring a need to our attention, we make a difference. That is why we have the Louis Greenspan Children’s Corner, the new College Student Emergency Fund, a new Crisis Fund, and our partnership with local school districts to fight opioid abuse. We hope to continue to expand and develop programs that will serve as a resource for our nonprofit partners, faithbased organizations and schools. I hope you will accept our invitation to get more involved in our essential community work. We hope to work together in the coming year! Thank you again for your support of United Way and our mission to fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community.

Sincerely, Jeannie Montano President & CEO

Community Champion Dr. Pamela R. Edington President

Dutchess Community College An educator with more than 35 years of service at community colleges in the northeast, Pamela R. Edington, Ed.D. became Dutchess Community College’s fifth – and first female – president in August 2014. Dr. Edington’s professional life has been dedicated to making a difference, particularly through higher education that is accessible, equitable and inclusive. She began her association with community colleges as a faculty member teaching sociology, transitioning to leadership positions as a dean, provost and now president. Key educational initiatives that Dr. Edington is committed to advancing as president include increasing the number of Dutchess students who complete a degree, developing additional programs of study to meet emerging workforce needs in the Mid-Hudson Valley, growing service and applied learning opportunities, and enhancing strategic relationships with local partners to enhance the educational pathway in Dutchess County. Reducing barriers to post-secondary education has been a hallmark of Dr. Edington’s work. Under her leadership, the College opened a site at the Family Partnership Center to serve the needs of the residents of the City of Poughkeepsie, and an on-campus food pantry and DCC CARES center were established to provide wraparound support to students. Dr. Edington has distinguished herself in both the community and on the DCC campus as an accessible, engaged and passionate visionary gifted in creating linkages between people and organizations to leverage resources and facilitate positive change. She was awarded an Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Medal in 2018.

Community Champion Dr. Kristine M. Young President

SUNY Orange Over the initial four years of her tenure as President of SUNY Orange, Dr. Kristine Young has begun to significantly reshape the student experience, while at the same time expanding access to the College and cementing public-private partnerships that place SUNY Orange in the midst of academic and workforce training innovation. Seeking to better retain and graduate students, the College is now into its third year of a “SUNY Orange Experience” initiative that is revamping student onboarding, advising, course scheduling and curriculum mapping. At the same time, SUNY Orange is creating targeted workforce training partnerships across a variety of business sectors that are generating pipelines of talented and skilled employees while at the same time sparking economic development within Orange County. In order to support an increasingly diverse student population, the College has initiated a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program as well as an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). TRIO enhances the persistence, retention, graduation and transfer rates of low-income first generation students and students with disabilities while EOP provides access, academic support and financial aid counseling to low-income and academically underprepared students. SUNY Orange is recognized as a HispanicServing Institution and has been named a “Veteran Friendly” college for four of the past six years. In July 2019, Young began a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges. Locally, she sits on the boards of directors for the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council, Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the Westchester Medical Center HealthReach Council, and the Orange County Citizens Foundation. Young came to SUNY Orange following a 17-year tenure at Parkland College in Champaign, Ill.

SURPRISE PERFORMANCE Students from the Dutchess Community College (DCC) Performing Arts A.S. Degree Program perform “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” This rousing finale of the Broadway Musical Hairspray, celebrates diversity and inclusion through the show’s toe-tapping tribute to 1960s Baltimore soul. Performers include: Melissa Ansari (DCC Student Government Association President), Hailey Gallinari, Angel Hernandez, Benjamin Simonetty. Jonah Woodcock (DCC Student Government Association Vice President) and Samantha Vega About the DCC Performing Arts Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree Program This program lets students develop their individual skills in several performing arts course areas, especially Theatre, Music and Dance. It allows for coherent combinations of these courses to be taken to meet special interests such as training in musical theatre. Upon completion of the degree, students may wish to seek professional employment in the performing arts, transfer to a college or conservatory for more advanced study or participate in local performing arts organizations. This is a good foundation not only for the student planning on transferring in the performing arts, but also for those who may ultimately pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree in another field and wish to be active in community performances. 9

Q92 IS BROADCASTING LIVE THIS MORNING JOE DAILY Joe, known by many as the “Morning Mayor of the Hudson Valley” has been entertaining audiences, both on air and in person, for over 40 years. For his many loyal listeners of all ages, his warmth and quick wit have become a happy part of their morning routine. And Joe enjoys his audience just as much, as he considers himself privileged to be part of people’s lives and, besides providing music, information and lots of chuckles every morning, hopes to encourage and support the wonderful individuals, families, community organizations and businesses that, with him, call the Hudson Valley home. Joe is a firm believer in the power of radio to entertain, inform, encourage and motivate. Besides his on-air hours, Joe participates in a wide variety of community events, lending his on and off-air support to many local organizations working to improve the lives of the residents of the Hudson Valley. You can hear Joe and his co-host, Michelle Taylor, on Q92 at 92.1 FM every weekday morning from 5:00 to 10:30.

MICHELLE TAYLOR Michelle Taylor landed in the Hudson Valley during the summer of 1998. Originally from Westchester County, she now calls the Hudson Valley home with her family in Wallkill. Michelle, can be heard locally on Hudson Valley radio during the mornings and mid-days in Sussex, NJ. With entertainment in her blood, Michelle’s grandfather was the host of ‘Coy’s Corner’ on WNBC-AM in the 1940’s. As far back as she can remember, Michelle has always wanted to ‘be on the radio’. Given the gift of gab, she set her sights on her communications training and development and received her start in radio on WEBK-FM in Killington, Vermont in an extraordinary situation, as co-host for a female morning show. After co-hosting the show and wearing the News Director hat for five years, Michelle wanted to come home to her roots of New York State. When she arrived home, Michelle worked for WRNN-TV as their Bureau Chief for the Fairfield / Westchester / Rockland Bureau. Following this task, it was time for Michelle to get back into radio, learning of a position with Straus Media in Poughkeepsie, she became the part time Board Op for ‘The Cat’ on 96.1 / 98.5. With many hours and days of commitment, dedication and taking each challenge she was faced with, Michelle moved up through Clear Channel Communications, now iHeartRadio, running the Promotions Department for four years before throwing her hat to be the Program Director of LITE 92.1, in addition to Director of Community Relations. With just a brief hiatus, Michelle is back on the air on Q92.1 / WRNQ-FM, Poughkeepsie, NY featuring “Joe and Michelle in The Morning” and hosting mid-days on 102.3 / WSUS-FM, Sussex, NJ, and couldn’t be happier! Michelle has ventured into being ‘her own boss,’ during her free time. She heads Taylor Entertainment with her mobile DJ business, voice over service and is an Ordained Minister.
