Welcome! Thank you so much for joining us for first virtual and our sixth annual Celebration of Service Awards Dinner! We’re so glad you are here and will be honoring with us the amazing people and business in our community! This spring we’ve all undergone a change in focus as COVID-19 swept through our community. Many of us have lost friends and relatives to this virus. Many of us have had are lives reshaped by this pandemic. But together we are here now and stronger in solidarity within our community than ever before. We wish to extend our deepest thanks to all the frontline heroes who have saved lives, helped us keep our families fed, provided heat and electricity and helped us teach our children. We have been working daily with our nonprofit partners as well as organizations on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis to help provide needed essentials so that they could fight successfully and safely for all of us. That is thanks to you. At United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region our work has always focused on providing that hand up when people need it most. During a recent telethon, one of the people we reached out to explained that year’s ago she received help from United Way when she was a single mother with three children. Today she is a successful lawyer and executive with a local business. That is what you help us do — before, during and after COVID-19. So tonight we’ll be honoring the top workplace campaigns and two nonprofits. Once again, Central Hudson shows their strong support for community and United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region as this year’s number one top campaign! While this event is virtual the need is not, please look over our silent auction items and bid for some of these great items. Whatever you can give will mean so much as we continue to help your neighbor, your friend, your family. That’s right, with your support United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region already helped 40,000 plus impacted by COVID-19 since March 13th. Last year, your support meant we could help 182,662 people in our community. We respond to the needs in our community to provide support where it is needed most. Your support matters. We are planning to celebrate with you in person during Pull the Plane this fall. We’ll let you know when the date is set, but in the meantime you can sign up to join us at www.pulltheplane.org! If you’d like to become more involved in our work, please speak to us. We’d love to have your help on future projects. Thank you again for your support of United Way and our mission to fight for the health, education and financial Jeannie Montano President & CEO

Adams Fairacre Farms is “giving you farmstand quality every day.” Inside every Adams Fairacre Farms store there is a heritage of freshness and value that grew out of a farm founded by Ralph A. and Mary Rogers Adams in 1919. NONPROFIT PARTNER SPOTLIGHTS Food for Kids, TK www.literacyconnections.org

For over 40 years, Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley has been helping adult students learn to read and write and to function independently by recruiting and training volunteers to provide one-to-one and small group tutoring that is student-centered. We work with the lowest literacy level adults who, due to lack of basic literacy and English language skills, are not eligible for other educational or vocational opportunities. Recognizing that illiteracy is a family issue, we also offer reading enrichment to children through our Book Buddies program. Book Buddies volunteers read one-to-one with children who have been identified by their schoolteacher as reading below grade level. Classroom Book Buddies volunteers read aloud with K and Pre-K children to give them a positive experience with books, and Math Buddies helps children improve their math fluency and understand new concepts. Last year, 474 volunteers served over 1,700 adults and children – clocking in 13,971 service hours, and it shows. Adults are reading, getting jobs and promotions, obtaining HSE (GED), and becoming USA citizens. Children are reading with fluency and gaining confidence, and teachers are singing the praises of the Book Buddies program. All this is possible because of the generosity of our volunteers, funders, and community partners. www.literacyconnections.org

Joe is a firm believer in the power of radio to entertain, inform, encourage and motivate. Besides his on-air hours, Joe participates in a wide variety of community events, lending his on and off-air support to many local organizations working to improve the lives of the residents of the Hudson Valley. With the help of our nonprofit partners, and generous volunteer groups, we are able to complete close to 50 capacity building projects throughout the year. Supported by the Volunteer Generation Fund of New York State. http://volunteer.uwdor.org Days of Sharing and The Louis Greenspan Children’s Corner Eight times a year United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region opens the basement of our Poughkeepsie office to offer donations to representatives from nonprofits, faith-based organizations and schools that serve our Dutchess & Orange region. The “shoppers” arrive with a list in mind of the items they need to best serve the clients of their organization. We offer clothing, bedding, home goods, books, office supplies and an entire room designated for children’s items called The Louis Greenspan Children’s Corner. This special space has all the basic items that families need to raise healthy, happy children.
