COLLEGE OF BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, LIFE SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE

Housing the School of Business and the School of Agriculture, the College of BILSA offers diverse majors that support your development as a leader, researcher, and entrepreneur. Many programs offer emphasis areas and pre-professional paths that allow you to choose what best fits your interests and prepare you for a career in medicine, biotechnology, industrial studies, nursing, zoology, business, and beyond.

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE

UW-Platteville has been educating engineers for more than 100 years, earning a national reputation of excellence. Our degrees in computer science, cybersecurity, mathematics, and engineering prepare you for careers in growing fields.

COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND EDUCATION

The College of LAE cultivates both knowledge and awareness of the complexities of nature and human culture. We encourage you to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form online at https://studentaid.gov. Use the school code 003921. You should fill out the form even if you are not sure that you will qualify for financial aid.

UW-Platteville’s Pioneer Pledge guarantees that the cost of undergraduate, on-campus tuition and fees will be covered for new freshmen who are Pell-eligible (determined by FAFSA), and a resident of Wisconsin, Illinois, or Minnesota.

New freshmen and transfer students from Illinois and Iowa receive a discount on out-of-state tuition through the Tuition Advantage program.

Minnesota-Wisconsin Reciprocity states that eligible residents of Minnesota can attend Wisconsin institutions at the approved reciprocity tuition rate.

Federal Work Study is a federally funded, need-based program, which gives you the opportunity to work on campus part time. Any student can also choose from hundreds of on-campus employment opportunities that are designed just for university students.

BOEBEL HALL

Home to our biology-focused programs, Boebel Hall was renovated in 2021 to enhance classrooms and laboratories to ensure students have real-life experiences to prepare for their future careers. Boebel Hall includes the Cadaver Lab, Microbiology Lab, Molecular and Biotechnology Lab, Freshwater Lab, and Environmental Science Lab. In the Animal House, students gain real-world animal care training and research experience. The hall provides a stimulating learning environment for students and faculty to collaborate.

SESQUICENTENNIAL HALL

As the newest addition to campus, Sesquicentennial Hall represents the future of innovation. The new structure unites the engineering disciplines, computer science, and our sustainability and renewable energy systems program. The building includes an accessible green roof, stateof-the-art laboratories, study spaces, and support services designed to help students succeed. Sesquicentennial Hall features the Huff Family Innovation Center, one of the largest makerspaces in the Midwest, and an inclusive space where students from all majors can learn, design, experiment, and create. The innovation center features tools for woodworking, 3D printing, fabrication, robotics, and working with textiles, vinyl, and metal.

Pioneer Farm has two, state-ofthe-art robotic milkers, the only ones in operation at a UW System school.

Memorial Park offers more than 120 acres of restored prairies, an oak savanna, and stream. It is a true living laboratory that provides the backdrop for learning experiences outside of the classroom.

Sustainability is a major part of the UW-Platteville culture, and students play an active role in the stewardship of campus lands, helping to restore campus prairies, protect native pollinators, and conduct prescribed burns.

Our solar array not only makes us the sixth-highest on-site producer of renewable energy among universities nationwide, but also offers students unique learning opportunities—from assisting in the initial design to helping create land management plans.

Biology students research an emerging snake fungal disease that threatens a devastating impact on the region’s snake populations and ecosystem.

STUDY ABROAD

Living in a new culture and learning a new language are great ways to challenge yourself and gain experience that employers like to see. You can incorporate study abroad into your college experience, with program options that range from two weeks to a full year. Choose from one of our 110 plus study abroad opportunities.

Kirsten Magedanz, a biology major, researched bats as part of the Summer Undergraduate Scholars Program, which offers students the opportunity to work full time on a research project in their area of interest. Her research revealed interesting trends in changing bat populations in the region.

Engineering students Dylan Notsch and Will Straka studied the effects of anti-icing on the durability of concrete. Part of their research included a field study at one of the largest pavementtesting facilities in the world.

Kimberly Cummings, a criminal justice and psychology double major, researched the topic of psychological profiling. Working with faculty mentor Dr. Alec Eshelman, Assistant Professor of Psychology, she presented her research project, “Meta-Analysis of Psychological Profiling: Overall Accuracy and Factors that Influence Accuracy.”

Hosted on campus each semester, the Career and Internship/Co-op Fair allows students from all majors to network and make valuable employer contacts for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions.

The newly renovated Pioneer Activity Center provides all full-time UW-Platteville students with a free membership with access to a 200-meter walking and running track, pool, courts, exercise studios, and a cardio loft.

With over eight miles of trails, easy access to local parks, and equipment rental, you can also venture outdoors. Rent a canoe in the spring or snowshoe in the winter. Campus Recreation has you covered.

CHOOSE YOUR NEW HOME

Every residence hall provides a sense of community and a welcoming environment, and each has its own distinctive character and style.

Our traditional residence halls feature double-occupancy rooms with community bathrooms; semi-suite style living features two double-occupancy bedrooms with one private bathroom for four residents; and the suite-style residence hall features four single bedrooms and two bathrooms for four residents.

You can also apply to join any of our living learning communities or interest communities, where you can live with students who share your passion for topics such as innovation, sustainability, teaching, wellness, criminal justice, and more. UW-Platteville is invested in the safety of every student, faculty and staff member on our campus and employs sworn police officers who patrol campus 24/7. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires colleges and universities make available a combined Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report, which includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes on campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. You may obtain this information for UW-Platteville at www.uwplatt.edu/clery-act. A printed copy of the report may be requested by calling the UW-Platteville Police Department at 608.342.1584.

Southwest Wisconsin is known for its scenic beauty and offers outdoor enthusiasts something for every season. The city of Platteville is home to more than eight miles of public trails for walking or biking, and the surrounding area offers some of the best places for hiking, snowshoeing, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.

The “M” stands for mining and honors UW-Platteville’s rich tradition in engineering. Constructed by students in the 1930s, it is the largest in the world, measuring 214 feet wide by 241 feet high.

STEM Career Exploration Day provides students in grades 10–12 exposure to the different career opportunities within the STEM field. Each student will be assigned to sessions for the day and explore the variety of opportunities in a STEM Career.

WHAT WE CONSIDER

At UW-Platteville, each applicant receives a comprehensive and individualized review. While academic potential is a part of the review, we also consider the personal factors reflected in your essay. The following are some of the items we take into account while reviewing your application:

• GPA and class rank

• Course rigor

• ACT or SAT scores (not required)

• Academic courses from ninth through 12th grades. Minimum college preparatory credits required include:

• English: 4 units

• Mathematics: 3 units – algebra, geometry, and higher

• Natural science: 3 units – two must include lab experience

• Social science: 3 units

• Electives: 4 units

• Personal factors, including but not limited to your activities, work experiences, and volunteering; passion for continuing your education; and the goals and motivations presented in your essay.
