PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Sasha- gaye Gray BSc in Nursing

Circle K'ers! How yuh feeling? You feel good or soooo good? I hope you’re feeling both! But wait, a 5 months already? Wow, times flies so quickly. My journey so far has been a rollercoaster that I would pay again to ride a million times over. It has shaped me to become a better leader by managing, planning, organizing and coordinating the club effectively. This position has taught me patience, activeness, and the art of volunteerism. I’ve created bonds and collaborated with other clubs which has been a tremendous experience so far. I’ve also challenged myself to manage the club, school and my personal life. I’m happy that I’ve made the decision to be your president.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of UTECH West CKI who have been attending meetings, events and volunteering when I need them the most. I look forward to quarter 3 and 4 to be filled with more service, leadership, fellowship and more fun of course.

My experience as the vice president for the past three months has been good in some instances. It's good to be able to work with different institutions and help or assist people who are from a different background.

To be able to put smiles on their faces while making an impact on the society through service and fellowshPage 4

ip means a lot and it also says a lot about the move of this club. However, my downfall is not having a strong bond with members of the club because I'm the only midwifery student of my year group so some of our interest isn't aligned. Nevertheless I admire the bond between the other members of the club.

“My CKI journey has been and is still an enjoyable one. As a Bulletin Editor, I have improved my designing skills and will continue to improve. In addition, I have had the wonderful opportunity of engaging in a clothing drive, beach clean-up, and Kindness Wednesdays for the K’Education Week of Challenges. Participating in these events has improved my social skills and broadened my horizon of the communities we serve.”

On August 5, we visited the Anchovy Primary School and assisted with registration and student medical. Over 100 people were present at the event.

On August 19, we visited the Calvary Baptist Church in Montego Bay and performed blood sugar and blood pressure checks on the visitors there. We assisted over 50 visitors at this event.

In collaboration with Kiwanis Club of Freeport, we came up with a large donation of 360 clothes and 24 pairs of shoes for the West Haven Children’s Home in Lete, Hanover.

We hosted a picnic treat for our members who paid their club dues in the ealry bird period. We had over 20 persons showed up for the event. We also had board games, dance offs, ring games etc which made the members very involved. District Governor Wendy paid us a small visit as well.

KIWANIS CLUB VISIT! On August 28, 2023 we suprised the Kiwanis Club of Cambridge/ Anchovy by paying a small visit to their club meeting. Fortunately, they contributed back to school funds and packages for our Salt Spring Primary Back to School project which we were very grateful for.

We came out in our numbers on Orientation Day at the UTECH Western Campus where we had a booth set up for the club and carried out different activities such as raffles, educational session, gift packages, etc. This has earned us over 50 prospective members. Of course we had a blast on this day.

On September 16, our club, along with UCC CKI and MBCC CKI, we visited the Trumpet Call Ministries Beach and partook in the beach cleanup. Surprisingly we saw personnels from the Wisynco Corporation at the same location and kindly handed us T-shirts and hats to assist with the event. We have also filled over 50 bags of garbage that day.

DAY 1:

SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE

On Day 1, we uploaded a Q&A video on our Instagram and Tiktok Page about where we interviewed our club members about their experiences so far in CKI.

DAY 2: FREE RICE The Sunshine Division donated over 81,000 rice grains where our belowed Asst. BE Monique came fourth place in the challenge.

DAY 3: KINDNESS WEDNESDAY We took the timeout to provide refreshments for the members of staff and the students here at the Western Campus.

DAY 4: “MAKE YOUR BEST K” !!!!

On Saturday, September 30, our club hosted a fitness program at the Harmony Beach Park where we carried out differerent activites such as warm ups, aerobic exercises, relays, sprint racing, dance offs etc. We had a turnout of 10-15 persons at the event.
