LET’S GET STARTED
SHARE YOUR EXPERTISE
We connect faculty with the media to provide expert analysis on current events and trends. As journalists work on tight deadlines, we made the process easier by creating the USF Experts Guide and abbreviated experts guides on popular topics.
Timing is everything
News content must be timely and relevant to a general audience, especially when it comes to academic journal articles. It’s critical to inform UCM as soon as the study has been accepted for publication. This allows time for our team to work with faculty to create content and share it with our network of reporters under embargo, greatly increasing the chances of media coverage.
CONTENT FOR CONSIDERATION
• Academic journal articles with compelling findings
• Major grants and contracts
• New patents, licenses or commercialization
• Partnerships
• Experiential learning opportunities
• Subject matter expertise
We love superlatives
What sets you apart from your peers? Help us identify projects that are the “first,” “largest,” “unique,” etc.
Media training
UCM hosts media training sessions each semester, and we are available to consult throughout the year, to help faculty feel more comfortable with the process.
Capture your research
Photography is one of the most impactful forms of storytelling. Be sure to take photos and videos from the field and inform UCM when additional visual opportunities become available.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
Sharing your expertise affirms the value of higher education and its impact on society. In addition to earning media coverage, highlighting faculty research helps attract support from new funding sources, inspires new collaborations and strengthens professional and institutional reputations.

FACULTY COMMENTS ABOUT RESEARCH PROMOTION
“Promoting my research has brought in significant visibility at the state level. Since USF is an AAU member and is an institute of Preeminence, state agencies are eager to be aware of R&D occurring here. This awareness can lead to increased collaborative opportunities statewide, and helps establish new partnerships for larger-scale federal grants.”
