In 2023, the University of South Florida accepted an invitation to join the Association of American Universities (AAU), a group of 71 top institutions across the U.S. and Canada.
Having an AAU institution in the Tampa Bay region will have a major impact for generations to come. There are many benefits to joining this prestigious organization, including:
• RESEARCH FUNDING:
AAU universities receive 64% of competitively awarded federal research funding – nearly $32 billion – creating more opportunities for USF to help solve great challenges.
• VALUE OF DEGREE:
AAU is a distinction earned by only 3% of all U.S. four-year universities. USF is one of only two public AAU members in the state of Florida.
• ATTRACT TOP TALENT:
Top talent gravitates toward the best universities, and attracting more bright minds to our region will help generate new startups, high-paying jobs and powerful discoveries.
In recent years, the Tampa Bay region has transformed from a hidden gem on Florida’s Gulf Coast to one of the fastest-growing areas in the country, attracting Fortune 500 companies including Raymond James, Citi, Jabil, WellCare and JPMorgan Chase — as well as a growing number of tech companies that cite USF as a key reason for their relocation to Tampa Bay.
It’s no coincidence that the region’s growth happened in parallel with USF’s upward trajectory. Over the years, we’ve grown from a small commuter school into a thriving global powerhouse. Today, USF has a vast network of partnerships with business and industry leaders to provide students with limitless opportunities for internships and real-world learning experiences.
