In 2023, the University of South Florida accepted an invitation to join the Association of American Universities (AAU), a group of 71 top institutions across the U.S. and Canada.

Having an AAU institution in the Tampa Bay region will have a major impact for generations to come. There are many benefits to joining this prestigious organization, including:

AAU universities receive 64% of competitively awarded federal research funding – nearly $32 billion – creating more opportunities for USF to help solve great challenges.

AAU is a distinction earned by only 3% of all U.S. four-year universities. USF is one of only two public AAU members in the state of Florida.

TAMPA

With more than 1,500 acres and 250 buildings, USF’s Tampa campus boasts a large, thriving community that is easily accessible from the heart of downtown Tampa.

The university’s largest campus includes state-of-the-art labs, a thriving student housing village complete with an on-campus grocery store, performance spaces, a robust USF Health district and an evolving athletics district. Recent additions include the Porter Family Indoor Performance Facility, a 47,000-square-foot Student Health and Wellness Center and the new home of the Judy Genshaft Honors College. Also on campus, the USF Research Park covers more than 100 acres and is the crossroads where the university meets the region’s rapidly growing innovation economy.

Situated on 52 acres of waterfront in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, the close-knit campus offers an intimate experience with the benefits of attending a large institution.

With a focus on experiential learning, the campus offers hands-on research opportunities and a rewarding residential experience. Home to the College of Marine Science and the statewide Florida Institute of Oceanography, the campus is engaged in environmental and oceanographic sciences alongside a dedicated focus on the arts, STEM education and finance.

SARASOTA-MANATEE

Located along the beautiful Sarasota Bay, the Sarasota-Manatee campus is unique in fostering a personalized learning experience where class sizes are small, and students become part of a tight-knit community.

The campus benefits from strong ties with the local communities, hosting the Florida Center for Partnerships in Arts-Integrated Teaching (PAInT), an accelerated nursing program, a School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, and a robust biology program with teaching laboratories at the Mote Marine Laboratory.

A recently opened state-of-the-art research center deepens the connection between university innovation and the business community, helping advance Tampa Bay’s rapidly growing innovation economy.

USF HEALTH

USF Health is an integral part of the university and includes the Morsani College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Public Health and the Taneja College of Pharmacy.

USF’s location in Water Street Tampa is a key anchor for one of the most vibrant regions in America and the world’s first wellness district. The university’s presence in the area includes the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, Heart Institute and Taneja College of Pharmacy, housed in a state-of-the-art facility that will help build the future of health through transformative education, research and patient care.

By bringing high-achieving students, faculty and scientists within a mile of our primary teaching hospital, Tampa General Hospital, USF Health is educating tomorrow’s physicians and pharmacists, and pioneering new discoveries to end heart disease.

USF ATHLETICS

USF Athletics is committed to providing all student-athletes with opportunities to receive a world-class education, win championships, and develop into the leaders of tomorrow while embracing our partnerships within the Tampa Bay community.

• 21 varsity men’s and women’s teams that compete in 11 different sports, 20 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference

• 28 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013

• 3.0 combined annual grade point average for the eighth straight year in 2022-23

• More than 600 studentathletes earned their degree since 2016-17

INVESTING IN GROWTH

STUDENT CENTER AND RESIDENTIAL HOUSING

• Multi-story, 100,000-square-foot facility that transforms USF Sarasota-Manatee into a residential campus

• Will include residences for 200 students, a ballroom, bookstore, dining facilities, study lounges, offices and meeting space

• $39 million project with a targeted completion date of fall 2024

ON-CAMPUS STADIUM

USF is building a transformational on-campus stadium. Plans call for an estimated 35,000-seat facility that will be a rallying point to bring our community together. An on-campus stadium is bigger than just athletics. It will greatly enhance the experience for all USF students and provide a compelling reason for our alumni, Bulls fans, and community members to visit our campus and discover everything the university has to offer

POTENTIAL STADIUM USAGE

• Host six to seven home football games each fall and other athletics events, including women’s lacrosse, throughout the year.

• Host university and private events in indoor and outdoor spaces.

• Host seasonal concerts, sporting events, festivals and other community programming.

ST. PETERSBURG

CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND OCEANOGRAPHIC SCIENCES

• Proposed to serve as a national destination for studying issues related to sustainability, sea-level rise and coastal resilience

• Will further position St. Petersburg as a world-class center of marine and environmental science, education and community engagement

The office plays a critical role in advancing the university’s mission of creating positive and lasting community impact through collaborative initiatives.

USF’s partnerships with corporations and private foundations help meet the needs of industry leaders and top employers while signaling our university’s role as a catalyst for growth. MILITARY & GOVERNMENT

With the launch of the Global and National Security Institute and our deep connections to our region’s strong military community, USF is helping address the security needs of our region, state and country. USF also hosts the Florida Center for Cybersecurity, also known as Cyber Florida, a statewide agency established by the Florida Legislature to lead the state’s efforts in cybersecurity education, research and outreach.
