THIS WEEK: San Francisco travels cross-country to South Florida to compete in the Miami Hurricane Invitational. The Dons face host Miami at 3 p.m. (PST) on Friday, Sept. 10. USF takes on FIU and Bethune-Cookman at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. (PST), respectively, on Saturday, Sept. 11. LOOKING AHEAD: Next week, USF hosts two games against Bay Area rivals Cal and Stanford. Both Pac-10 programs are currently ranked in the top 10 in this week’s AVCA Top 25 poll. The Dons host No. 10-ranked Cal at 7 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 17th and No. 2-ranked Stanford at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 18th. LOOKING BACK: Last week, the Dons hosted their own Powerade/Asics Challenge. USF dropped a tough four-set match to UC Santa Barbara 19-25, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20. Tournament champion Tulsa swept the Dons 3-0 in their first game on Saturday, 25-23, 25-11 and 25-20 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. USF ended the tournament by getting edged in four sets by Washington State, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-22. ON THE RADIO: USF fans can listen to the team’s match against Miami live on Friday afternoon on Miami radio by going to http://www.wvum.org/ and clicking the “Listen” tab. LIVE STATS: Fans can watch live stats for all three of San Francisco’s matches at the Miami Invitational by going to: http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/10-canes-invite.html and clicking on the desired USF match. CLEAN SWEEP: Freshmen are leading all eight major statistical categories for the Dons after two weekends of play. Setter/hitter Joan Caloiaro leads five of those categories: kills (59), attempts (157), hitting percentage (.242), assists (117) and service aces (5). Redshirt freshman middle blocker Jordan Irish leads the team in blocks (15) and solo blocks (2). Libero Whitney Swain’s 94 digs is a team-best. NICE TO MEET YOU: USF faces two opponents this weekend for the first time in program history: FIU and Bethune-Cookman. It will be the third and fourth times this season that the Dons can add a new opponent to its record book. USF took on Lipscomb for the first time during the Bluejay Invitational and Tulsa for the first time during the Powerade/Asics Challenge.
