DAA Northwest/DAA Seattle

Auctions Roll Out Community Apps DAA Northwest and DAA Seattle recently launched free community apps available from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The DAA Northwest Community App allows users to quickly preview lane schedules and lot maps from their smart phones.

In addition, dealers can request travel and hotel

accommodation assistance and access inventory listings through links to daanw.com, daaseattle.com and the AuctionPipeline.

“More and more of our customers are doing business every day on their handheld devices.

“We want to connect with them on that level,” says Pat Simmons, DAA’s Director of Technology.

“The development of our community app allows us to do this,” he added.

Both the DAA Northwest and DAA Seattle Community Apps give subscribing dealers the opportunity to receive rewards through their “Deals” menus.

Additionally, DAA North-

west’s app includes a Coffee Club membership to the auction’s sale day latte stand.

Both apps include

promotional and weekly sale schedules, the ability to request an airport shuttle as well as links to social media and auction event photos.

In a similar technology move, DAA Northwest recently transitioned to a

responsive website.

“As with our apps, the new design provides a customized viewing experience optimized for any device that is opening it,” says Simmons.

KCI Kansas City

KCI Cares Gives Back to Local Community Three years ago, KCI Kansas City created KCI Cares, a community outreach program to give back to those less fortunate. Since starting the program, KCI’s staff and customers have raised money and have donated food, supplies and clothing to those in need. This year, KCI Kansas City’s staff wanted to do more and decided to give the one thing that doesn’t cost money – their time.

KCI Cares decided to first adopt-a-highway along a one-mile stretch of I-29, the closest interstate to the auction. Dressed in orange vests and gloves, with pokers in hand, KCI’s staff divid-

ed and conquered the mile stretch, separating into two teams. The teams started at opposite ends of the mile, working their way towards the middle, picking up trash and debris along the way.

After many hours, they had completed the task, filling over 70 bags of trash.

“It was a hot day and a lot of hard work but we finished what we started,” said Doug Doll, co-owner of KCI Kansas City. “Our staff pulled together, worked as a team, and we had the largest group of volunteers that MODOT had seen.”

A few weeks later, some of KCI’s staff had the opportunity to volunteer at

Camp Quality Greater Kansas City, a weeklong camp held for children with cancer. KCI’s staff helped the children build Legos; cook s’mores around the campfire and fixed hair and makeup for the children’s farewell dance.

“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to volunteer at Camp Quality Greater Kansas City but we had several employ-

ees who did,” says Doll.

“Knowing our employees care enough to volunteer their time makes me proud to be part of our KCI family.”

KCI Cares has worked with Camp Quality Greater Kansas City the last two years. Camp Quality Greater Kansas City focuses on the emotional needs of children with cancer and their families.

Rawls Auto Auction The Country’s Oldest Auction Rawls Auto Auction, the oldest sale in the country, will be celebrating its 77th year in May, 2015. The sale was founded by J.M. “Martin” Rawls, and partner S.L. “Monty” Montgomery.

Martin Rawls can be considered the father of the auto auction industry as he hatched the idea for the nation’s first sale while attending a cattle auction in the late 1930’s.

Montgomery was initially hesitant about opening an auction at Rawls Auto Sales.

He eventually relented and a door was put into the twostory building to accommodate the vehicles for sale.

The inaugural sale featured about a dozen cars and was attended by 35 dealers.

The auction grew quickly, eventually relocating to a Quonset hut next to a Ford dealership.

Rawl’s and Montgomery’s wives provided home cooked meals to the dealers that attended the auction every Monday.

Today, the sale is owned and operated by Martin’s son, Jimmy Rawls, and boasts seven lanes on forty acres.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Rawls has expanded and improved the facility.

“We’ve completed the early phases of construction, adding real estate, a new state-of-the-art reconditioning center and new offices,” he said.

The reconditioning center is a 5000-square-foot building

with eight bays, eight lifts and modern testing equipment.

The auction uses the most up-to-date technology with online sales offered through AWG. The auction also uses OVE.com.

Rawls has received many awards, including GM Financial’s Auction of the Year for 2012 and 2013 as well as GM Financial’s Auction of Excellence for the first and second quarters of 2014.

The auction was also ranked

first in their region by Fiserv for the first half of 2014.

Every Tuesday starts with a salvage sale at 8:30 a.m., fleet/lease and rentals at 10 a.m., and a consignment sale at 11 a.m.

Missouri Auto Auction

Expanding to Improve Your Auction Experience Missouri Auto Auction has seen very exciting growth and expansion since it was founded in 2000.

Owners Gregg and Dagmar Boswell and Kevin and Kathleen Brown have committed themselves to finding the right people to deliver the service levels that their customers have come to expect.

They’ve committed to improving the facilities to include five lanes, a reconditioning center, an indoor check-in arena and a first class administrative office for customers.

Missouri Auto Auction is near the conclusion of a $1 million expansion project that started in March.

On one side is a new 6,000 square-foot check-in area with three covered bays, designed to replace the existing single outdoor check-in lane.

It provides protection from the weather, plus heated floors are a welcome addition for auction employees during cold Missouri winters.

This facility also allows the efficient movement of vehicles through the check-in process.

Condition report writing, equipment verification, computer entry, and photos can all be handled in the same location.

To the south is an additional 6,000 square

foot building meant to improve the auction day experience for customers.

Expanded office space includes a new bidder badge area, new payment counter, arbitration and “if” counters, plus a new coat and luggage room with lockers.

This project will conclude a five-year vision, started in 2010 with the addition of a 10,000 square-foot

reconditioning center.

It grew to include the addition of two auction lanes and a walk up diner in 2013.

As the auction’s dealer base grows and the sale volume expands, it is Missouri Auto Auction’s continuing goal to make the auction process as convenient and efficient as possible for both customers and employees.
