DETROIT – The Consumer Reports Auto Reliability Survey for 2012 saw Ford slip dramatically while Audi and Cadillac were on the ascent. Ford tumbled to the nextto-last position among the 28 car brands ranked by the independent product testing organization, while Lincoln was number 26. Cadillac was up 14 places to number 11 and Audi soared 18 spots to eighth position. Jaguar continued to occupy last place. “Sixty percent of Fordbranded models and half of Lincolns were below average in predicted reliability, and none placed above average,” Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports told members of the Automo-
tive Press Association. The most recent annual reliability survey is based on subscribers’ experiences with 1.2 million vehicles. Consumer Reports is primarily interested in the pluses and minuses of cars built within the last three years for its projection of the reliability of these nameplates going forward. It bases its predictions on subscriber feedback. In spite of record recalls and multiple problems, Toyota excelled in the latest ratings. Scion, Toyota and Lexus nabbed the top spots among the 28 brands. Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura took the next spots.
