Lansing Special Education
The Lansing Pride is finishing up another successful year! A few months ago, “Smart Class” announced that Lansing High School has the highest graduation rate in the state of Kansas at 95.5%! That is especially great news because graduation rates will be a major focus of the new Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA). KESA requires a district-level plan to improve our service to the students and families of Lansing, and we are excited to use the KESA process to take our student’s success to even higher levels. As part of our KESA process, we have reorganized our building and district administration and created a new district-level position to lead professional development and school improvement. Kansas school districts are facing significant fiscal challenges so it was very gratifying to find a way to create this position without adding any cost to the school district! Dr. Hollie Becker will begin her duties as the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning this summer. We will use this coming school year to plan facility needs and will focus on how to best use the former Lansing Middle School. We hope to put grades 4-5 in that building for the 20182019 school year, and we will create a plan for staffing and other needs. In the meantime, we are keeping the building clean and maintained. Having extra classroom space in a growing district like Lansing is a tremendous asset for which we are very thankful! Lansing’s school district and community support each other in our shared vision of achieving excellence. We strive to make sure all students will be successful regardless of the path they choose to follow after graduation. As part of that promise, we will focus on helping all students be ready to learn when they enter kindergarten, making sure kids develop the social and emotional skills needed for success, creating an individualized education plan for all secondary students, and continuing to lead the state in our kid’s rate of graduation. Lansing is blessed to have the strong support of our community and business partners, and we appreciate their work and that of the Lansing Education Foundation for creating a true school community. Lansing families know our top priority is working together to make sure Lansing kids are protected, nurtured, and educated because their dreams are our dreams as well.
