It’s been an absolute pleasure to get to know each and every one of you! It feels only like yesterday when you first arrived and were trying to figure out your new life here. Since then, I’ve seen you explore, learn and grow every single day.

During your stay in San Sebastian you’ve learned and/or improved your Spanish, learned about Basque language and culture (even Basque folk dancing!), participated in a million activities (San Sebastian day and tamborrada, Carnavales, teaching at local schools…), learned to cook, learned to surf, explored the province of Gipuzkoa, learned about the history of the Earth in Zumaia and about human history in Burgos… the list is endless! This yearbook is a testament to all you have experienced during this time.

A very special thank you go to Nahomi Rodríguez-Lara and Alex Oles who, under Natalia Errazkin’s and Mari Mar Olano’s supervision, have worked so hard in putting this beautiful yearbook together for all of you to enjoy for years to come

LOS ESTUDIANTES DE USAC CELEBRARON EL PASADO 19 DE ENERO LA GRAN FIESTA DE SAN SEBASTIÁN.

UNA JORNADA EN LA QUE TUVIERON OCASIÓN DE DISFRUTAR A PIE DE CALLE

DE LAS DIFERENTES TAMBORRADAS DE SOCIEDADES Y PEÑAS DONOSTIARRAS.

INMERSOS EN ESTA EMOCIONANTE FIESTA, SE UNIERON AL RECORRIDO QUE TAMBORES Y BARRILES REALIZABAN POR LA CIUDAD. TARAREARON LAS TÍPICAS MARCHAS DE ESTE DÍA ESPECIAL Y SE SUMARON AL AMBIENTE DE ALEGRÍA Y FELICIDAD QUE SE RESPIRABA EN CADA RINCÓN

NUESTROS ESTUDIANTES SE SINTIERON COMO EN CASA RODEADOS DE AMIGOS Y ARROPADOS POR LA HOSPITALIDAD DE LOS VECINOS, SE SUMARON A UNO DE LOS DÍAS GRANDES DE LA CIUDAD. EL DÍA DE SAN SEBASTIÁN A BUEN SEGURO QUEDARÁ MARCADO EN EL CALENDARIO DE NUESTROS ESTUDIANTES DE USAC COMO UN ACONTECIMIENTO ESPECIAL Y VIBRANTE EN EL QUE TUVIERON LA OPORTUNIDAD DE PARTICIPAR PLENAMENTE.

La Tamborrada was an absolute blast from start to finish. The entire square in Old Town was flooded with people and my friends and I joined in. We squeezed together near the front to catch the drums and celebration. As the clock struck 12, a collective wave of voices filled the air as everyone ignited in sang. It was incredible to be surrounded by the sound of Basque lyrics. The vibrancy of the city didn't fade as the night progressed into Saturday. It was vibrant all night and all day. There was music, drums, and parades through the streets. It was a nonstop celebration that encapsulated the spirit of San Sebastian, making it a weekend to remember.

The festival was an incredible display of pride unlike anything I have ever seen before, never in my life have I felt such a love for a place like the Basque people love San Sebastian During The Tamborrada and every second after you could feel it. Everyone in the crowd knew every word. Every person young and old participated with a smile on their face. Tamborradas were still playing in Parte Vieja at 6 or 7 am Everyone was acting like the night would never end.

My host father played in the closing Tamborrada, never have I seen such pride to represent the city. We had dinner, and he played the same three songs on repeat, humming and tapping and drinking wine, their sounds made him so happy. The next day we rewatched the Tamborrada on TV and looked for him with great pride and care. For me, that story sums up what it meant to people.

Esta celebración me encantó. La verdad es que fue mi primera experiencia, mi primer contacto con la cultura vasca. Tengo claro que no voy a olvidar ese día.

CONOCIENDO EL TRABAJO DE XABIER GARATE

ORIGEN E HISTORIA

USAC VISITÓ EL TALLER DE XABIER GARATE, EL ARTESANO QUE AÑO TRAS AÑO DA FORMA Y DISFRAZA A “ZANPANTZAR”.

LOS ESTUDIANTES ESCUCHARON ATENTAMENTE SUS EXPLICACIONES, CONOCIERON EL SIGNIFICADO DE ESTA FIGURA Y LA HISTORIA QUE LE RODEA, ADEMÁS DE SER LOS PRIMEROS EN SABER EL DISFRAZ QUE ESTE AÑO LUCIRÁ EL GIGANTE. SALIERON SATISFECHOS DE ESTA JORNADA, CON LA LECCIÓN BIEN APRENDIDA Y UN SECRETO QUE DEBERÁN GUARDAR HASTA EL DESFILE DE CARNAVAL.

Uno de los eventos más tradicionales y esperados en la ciudad de Irun es el “Zanpantzar”. Fiesta de gran colorido y llena de historia. Su origen se remonta a la época medieval, cuando los habitantes de la ciudad salían a las calles para celebrar la llegada del invierno y ahuyentar a los malos espíritus. Con el paso del tiempo, esta fiesta se ha convertido en una tradición arraigada en la cultura vasca y cada año atrae a miles de visitantes de todo el mundo.

I was fascinated by touring his workshop. It made me feel cool and important to be able to see the Zanpantzar before everyone else, especially with the photographer and the possibility of being in the newspaper. I asked a question about if anyone had fallen while carrying it during the parade and was so surprised to hear that it was not really a problem. I would have thought that it happened a decent amount. Being so close to the Zanpanzar let me see all the details and how much time and attention was put into its creation. Seeing it in the actual parade was such a different experience because it was so much taller and I had to look harder to see the same details

Me encantó conocer el taller, hablar con Xabier Garate, el escultor del Zanpantzar, y ser los primeros en descubrir el disfraz que llevará este año. Pudimos comprender el significado que hay detrás de todo el proceso.

Me ha encantado ir al taller de Xabier Garate y ver el Zanpantzar de este año El mensaje de que Zanpantzar está asustado con todas las atrocidades que están pasando en el mundo me gusta mucho. Mi parte favorita fue ver lo ilusionado y orgulloso que estaba el autor de su obra de arte.

EL ÍMPETU Y LA ALEGRÍA DE ESTE EVENTO, LOGRÓ CONTAGIAR A LOS ESTUDIANTES DE USAC QUE RECORDARÁN EL AMBIENTE FESTIVO VIVIDO DURANTE ESOS DÍAS.

EN IRUN, EL TRADICIONAL “CARNAVAL VASCO”, LES DIO LA OPORTUNIDAD DE PARTICIPAR EN EL DESFILE DE “ZANPANTZAR” DURANTE DOS JORNADAS FUERON LOS CABEZUDOS DE LA COMPARSA.

¡UN DIVERTIDO BROCHE DE ORO!

This was an experience like no other for us USAC students. I enjoyed the participating experience just as much as the parade watchers. There could not be a better way to fully immerse in a culture

El Carnaval de Irun ha sido una experiencia diferente a todas las que he tenido en mi vida. Nos disfrazamos otros estudiantes de USAC y yo y participamos en el desfile. Nos colocamos unas enormes cabezas muy divertidas y salimos a la calle Mientras estábamos en el desfile, íbamos golpeando suavemente a los niños y a las personas que nos contemplaban. Todos los niños (y muchos adultos también) iban disfrazados. Se veían princesas, superhéroes, animales etc., por todas partes. Ver los disfraces me hizo recordar la festividad de Halloween.

En general, disfruté mucho de esta experiencia Esta tradición es muy especial en España y tuve la suerte de poder sumergirme en la cultura.

Participar en los carnavales de Irun fue una experiencia súper divertida. Fue muy guay ver cómo se lo pasaban todos los niños corriendo y riéndose mientras sonaba la música y todos en la calle celebraban con gran entusiasmo la fiesta.

El desfile en el que participé fue muy extraño para mí, pero a la vez muy divertido Es una de las cosas de este semestre que voy a recordar durante toda mi vida. Me encantó la oportunidad que se nos brindó de poder participar en una parte de la cultura

This was such a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so glad I was able to participate. The Basque class really makes me feel like I am getting a better experience at immersion within the culture. The heads were not as heavy as anticipated, but it was so weird with it on because I felt so clunky and it was hard to hear I had more fun that I thought I would have chasing kids around. Arantxa and I teamed up on some kids and it was just overall such a hilarious experience One of the people in the red jackets controlling the parade told me to high five the really young kids. I think I underestimated how terrified they would be of me I would approach them slowly and watched as they became so scared and tried to hide. Some even cried and I felt so bad.

TRAJES ESPECTACULARES Y UN SINFÍN DE BAILES CON

ELABORADAS COREOGRAFÍAS, LLENARON LAS CALLES DE PUEBLOS

Y CIUDADES.

Carnivals have always intrigued me The origins of these celebrations date back to our primitive culture, who believed that nature was a being so they thought that if they made a lot of noise, they would wake up spring after the harsh winter. They felt the need to scare away the bad spirits and darkness of winter and awaken the sun and good spirits as a way of welcoming spring. It's fascinating to consider how these ancient rituals have persisted over time and although they have evolved they often incorporate similar elements of sacrifice, such as the use of animal blood, and wearing creepy attire

The Ihoteak festival in Oiartzun provided me with an incredible look into the old traditions some small towns have. Oiarzun is a tiny village with a population of only 10,000. On Friday night, everyone in the village gathers together and throws an absolutely massive celebration that lasts for the entire weekend. My friend Sophia and I went to Friday night's bonfire celebration, which kicks off 48 hours of nonstop partying and lets just say, it was a night to remember!

We were first greeted by a bunch of traditional Basque dances and music, which was really cool to watch. We were treated to around 45 minutes of dancing before the festival got a little dark with people dressed as monsters everywhere!

There were witches and tree spirits, demons and ghouls, and they all danced around the wood pile with torches. The monsters tried their best to scare the attendees of the festival, and it worked. We saw many young children get scared and cry. I believe this is part of the growing up experience in the Basque Country, as scaring children seems to be commonplace among most festivals. At last, the time came to light the bonfire. The monsters threw their torches into the pile of wood and we watched the fire burn as the creatures of the night danced and sang. They began to break their way into the crowd, trying their best to frighten as many people as they could. The crowds surged into the monster's area and that concluded all of the festivities for the Ihoteak festival! The monsters were let loose on the town and children had fun running away from the people dressed in ghoulish attire. It was overall an amazing experience and it reminded me a lot of Halloween. I would go back to this festival in a heartbeat!

¡Desfilar en el Carnaval fue una experiencia inolvidable! Fue interesante ver a tanta gente a ambos lados de la calle, viéndonos pasar con nuestros disfraces y nuestras enormes cabezas

No pude participar en el desfile de los carnavales, pero vi disfrutar a mis compañeros. Me reí y lo pasé muy bien, aunque no estuve directamente involucrada.

Having the opportunity to participate in Los Carnavales as Cabezudos has been one of the most satisfactory and exciting experiences I have had so far, mainly I liked that they let us participate, although we are not from this country and we are not part of the culture, to me as a foreigner it was a little difficult to understand the context of why carnivals exist and having the opportunity to participate in them helped me understand a little about the roots of where carnivals come from. I really liked the inclusivity that exists within the carnival because from my point of view it is a way in which they include all people in the world regardless of nationality, skin color, way of dressing, or age, it is very important that they teach children the importance of including, accepting and respecting all people

On the other hand, I was so happy to have participated in the happiness of many children, most of the children who were at the carnival were playing with us and laughing, that made me remember my childhood and I would like to have had those experiences when I was a child So having made all those children laugh also made my inner child very happy, if I had the opportunity to participate again I would definitely do it again.

DÍA ESPECIAL DE LA CLASE DE TEATRO

Estudiantes de clase de teatro tuvieron una clase especial fuera del aula. Acompañados de su profesora Mari Mar Olano visitaron “La farándula”, un microteatro donde disfrutaron de una pequeña representación codeándose con las actrices que participaron en la obra.

Una experiencia que les permitió practicar el idioma de una lúdica, además de tener contacto con las artes.

¡UN DIVERTIDO ENCUENTRO CON EL ARTE Y LA CULTURA TEATRAL!

Esta clase y esta salida al teatro han sido muy útiles para ayudarme a practicar el español en una conversación coloquial y aumentar mi vocabulario El espectáculo fue muy divertido y tener la oportunidad de hablar con las actrices después de finalizar la obra es algo que no olvidaré

Fuimos al teatro con la profesora Mari Mar y la verdad es que nos lo pasamos pipa. Primeramente, nada más llegar y después de sacarnos fotos en el decorado del lugar, tomamos un café Hablamos un rato antes de empezar la obra y nos dirigimos a la taquilla a comprar las entradas. “Fue una obra espectacular” Nos reímos mucho. Nos dio mucha pena que fuera tan corta, pero el tiempo que estuvimos juntas lo disfrutamos a tope.

A perfect way to get me interested in Theatre was to do this special class It was a lot of fun to see the play. I paid attention and, even though I didn't understand everything,

I didn't feel bad.

The actresses did a great job of conveying emotion. I loved how they picked me up to dance with them at the end of the show.

Disfruté el microteatro entre otras cosas porque fue muy intenso. La habitación era tan pequeña que se podía sentir la emoción. Fue interesante experimentar las cosas que estamos aprendiendo en un nuevo entorno La obra fue súper divertida, el tiempo de duración era perfecto y, además, pudimos conocer a las actrices Esto fue algo diferente para mí.

¡No puedo esperar a ver más!

Por primera vez en mi vida, tuve la oportunidad de ir a ver una obra de teatro. ¡Me encantó la experiencia! Solamente intervenían dos actrices que representaban a una madre y una hija (anteriormente era un hijo).

El lugar era una habitación muy pequeña, pero ese pequeño espacio nos permitió estar más cerca de las dos intérpretes y escuchar el diálogo perfectamente.

Al finalizar su actuación tuvimos la oportunidad de bailar e interactuar con las actrices Nos contaron más detalles de la obra y nos dijeron que estaba basada en hechos reales. La cercanía, el diálogo con las actrices, sus explicaciones, son algunas de las cosas que hicieron que la experiencia fuera aún mejor. Me sentí como que formaba parte de la obra. Definitivamente me gustaría volver a este lugar

Dos mujeres se encuentran después de diez años con una nueva identidad. Una vida, un pasado... La VERDAD... Y volver a empezar.

Una madre visita a su hijo que hace 10 años que no ve. Sabe que ha cambiado de identidad, que ahora se llama Sandra y que donde va a visitarla es una cárcel. Pero Sandra le tiene que contar algo, la razón por la que está en la cárcel. Intérpretes: Zaloa Zamarreño y Libe Mendizabal

A very special day

A VERY SPECIAL DAY FOR THE "SPANISH CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION" CLASS WAS THE VISIT TO THE ROMAN SETTLEMENT OF OIASSO LOCATED UNDER THE GROUND OF THE CURRENT CITY OF IRUN. PROFESSOR NATALIA ERRAZKIN'S PROPOSAL ALLOWED STUDENTS

TO GET TO KNOW THE MUSEUM, THE NECROPOLIS IN THE HERMITAGE OF SANT ELENA, THE MINING OPERATIONS, THE PORT AND THE THERMAL BATHS.

I loved having the opportunity to go to the Roman Museum I never learned very much about Roman history throughout school, especially history within the country of Spain. I learned a lot at the museum and took many pictures that will help me complete the class project!

¡Mi experiencia en el Museo Oiasso fue única! Primero fuimos a la necrópolis donde recibimos información sobre las prácticas funerarias romanas También conocimos el proceso de la transformación de la necrópolis en iglesia. En el museo pudimos ver artefactos romanos que nos permitieron conocer cómo vivían los romanos Vimos jarrones, anzuelos de pesca, clavos y ruinas Me encanta conocer parte de la historia de España. No sabía hasta ahora el impacto que habían tenido los romanos en esta parte del País Vasco.

Fue muy interesante la visita al museo puesto que me permitió ver los cambios que se han producido durante las diferentes épocas. Me impresionó estar en una iglesia que durante muchos años en la Edad Media había sido un cementerio. ¡También pudimos ver artefactos romanos! Lo más interesante para mí fue estar caminando por un lugar que antes era un puerto de barcos y hoy ya no lo es. De hecho, poder ver in situ todo esto que forma parte de la historia que estamos aprendiendo en clase, fue algo increíble

It was so cool to actually be able to see what we were learning about in person and connect them to each other. The necropolis was my favorite part because it was so cold inside and you could literally smell the history. The video walking us through a typical day in the life for a boy living during that time period was so informative.

A GREAT WAY TO DISCOVER THE HISTORY OF THE CITY!

Our Basque Cuisine class meets once a week, and we normally cook amazing dishes and learn how to prepare unique Basque foods. However, our class on February 7th was completely different. This week, we traveled to a traditional Basque sidrería (cider house)! This was an amazing experience, and one that I will constantly think about for years to come! We first started our journey by meeting up with the class at the USAC building on the UPV campus. We hopped on a bus that took us to the Zelaia Sidrería getting to the cider house, we arrived at our standing table (not as bad as you'd think). We were taught the rules of the cider house and then immediately jumped into cider tasting. These cider houses are great for parties and to meet friends. Enjoying cider with friends is the pinnacle of Basque culture. The food at the cider house was amazing as well. While they weren't giant dishes, or elaborate plates, it was great traditional Basque food. The pinnacle of which is called "txuleton steak," which is served extremely rare. Overall, the food, drinks, and atmosphere were AMAZING! It was so much fun!

Our program is so lucky to have a class like this one! The cooking class takes place in one of the oldest gastronomical societies in San Sebastian, and the teachers are very attentive and helpful (even if they don’t speak much English!). Each week was something different and rich in Basque culture. We prepare different dishes using techniques shown to us at the start of the class, then we spend the next two hours preparing and cooking the meal! Afterwards, we sit down and have a nice dinner together and eat our creations. It was a great experience and it brought me closer to my peers and the Basque culture we see everywhere we go. The food we made over the course of the cooking class was delicious and fun to cook! I came into the cooking class not knowing very many recipes and techniques on how to cook but now I am confident that when I return to the United States, I can cook some authentic Basque cuisine!

El pasado y la tradición se dieron la mano en la visita al Caserio Museo Igartubeiti. Enmarcado en un paisaje donde el verde predomina, el Caserío Museo Igartubeiti uno de los caseríos más interesantes del País Vasco, dio la oportunidad a nuestros estudiantes de conocer el gran lagar que se utilizaba para el prensado de las manzanas y la posterior elaboración de la sidra, bebida esencial de la tierra. .

I had so much fun on the Official USAC Excursion into famous parts of the Basque Country! The Basque farmhouse gave all of us insight into how early Basque people lived, and how hard and unforgiving the landscape of the Basque Countryside was to them Next, seeing the Sanctuary of Arantzazu was amazing. The cliff sides as well as the church itself were breathtaking and definitely worth a second visit Lastly, the town of Zumaia as well as its cliffs were absolutely incredible. Having the ability to look at over sixty million years of geography was very powerful to me. And as a treat to end the amazing day, we got to ride in a boat and take a tour of the Zumaia cliffs and see them in a brand new perspective!

I enjoyed all parts of the excursion and feel like overall it helped me to better understand the Basque Country and its different pieces both physically and culturally. I think that the design of the church especially reflected some of these differences, and found the basilica to be beautiful and so unique.

Mi visita al monasterio fue una experiencia increíble. Recibí mucha información sobre la historia, la arquitectura y su autor. Recorrimos los alrededores y vimos vistas fantásticas donde predominaban los colores verdes y marrones de los árboles.

Comimos en un restaurante cercano y por primera vez probé la paella, uno de los platos que más me han gustado en España. De segundo degustamos pollo con patatas y para terminar, de postre, nos sirvieron un flan ¡Todo estaba muy bueno!

Saqué muchísimas fotos del fantástico lugar que me ayudarán a recordarlo cuando vuelva a Estados Unidos

The field trip was awesome! I loved seeing three completely different places that were so unique I can’t believe the weather cleared off by the time we got to Zumaia and we were able to go on the boat. It was super interesting to learn new things throughout the day, especially because I would have never even known about them if I didn’t come on the trip.

The surfing class is one of the main reasons I came to San Sebastian. It has been so fun being out there with all of my best friends, even if we spend the majority of the time trying not to drown, ha ha. Definitely planning on applying for the Olympics for surf after I become a pro over the rest of these weeks!

Todos sabemos que la protección del medio ambiente es además de un deseo general, una necesidad. Cambiar de hábitos en nuestro día a día, pueden llevarnos a una transformación significativa.

USAC, consciente de que cada una de nuestras pequeñas acciones ayudan, quiso poner su granito de arena proponiendo algunas actividades.

Por esta razón, algunos de sus estudiantes además de la traducción del cuento “Amalurra” (Madre Tierra), interactuaron con nuestro entorno participando en limpieza de la playa de la Zurriola.

San Sebastián organizó una salida voluntaria para participar en la limpieza de la playa de la . Quedé impactada de cómo la gente de la ciudad quiere, participa y cuida la naturaleza. Verdaderamente si queremos hacer un cambio real, debemos actuar todos juntos.

ENHANCING

THE LINGUISTIC PROFICIENCY AND CULTURAL

UNDERSTANDING OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Since we set up the T.A.B.C. (Teaching Assistant in the Basque Country) project, we have been finding that the integration of language assistants has become a more and more important tool in the pursuit of effective foreign language education since conversation Assistants play a vital role in enhancing the linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding of a foreign language.

One of the primary benefits of incorporating language assistants into the educational system is the opportunity they provide for authentic language practice. Their presence in the classroom offers students exposure to natural speech patterns, colloquial expressions, and cultural nuances that textbooks and traditional teaching methods may overlook. By engaging in real-life conversations with native speakers, local students can refine their pronunciation, improve their comprehension skills, and gain confidence in their ability to communicate effectively in the target language, English.

But that’s not all Language assistants play a vital role in the community, serving as accessible resources that facilitate communication and learning by breaking down language barriers and ensuring that individuals with varying linguistic abilities can participate fully

This has been amply demonstrated by the seven USAC students who have worked as English conversation assistants in the schools of La Asunción, CEP Mendiola, Nazaret, Salesianos and Zumaiena. They are: Adrianna Casaus, Kenna Diesner, Arantxa Irujo, Sophia Labadie, Malcolm Mendoza, Alex Oles and Luke Werner This challenge is never an easy one and it always implies facing difficult tasks and competencies but all of them have fulfilled their role effectively and have contributed to the educational process of their students. Their presence in the classroom has definitely enriched students’ linguistic and cultural experiences.

We are thankful and feel very proud of Adrianna, Kenna, Arantxa, Sophia, Malcolm, Luke and Alex who have not only brought to local students the opportunity for authentic language practice but have also worked for the community, providing learning opportunities and encouraging them to acquire new skills and knowledge.

For yet another semester we have tried and for yet another semester USAC students have joined us in this adventure. And once again USAC students have shown us how nice it is when things turn out well

We hope you have learned a lot and enjoyed the experience.

Working with students at Asuncion was such a special experience that I will remember forever. I had the best time teaching them about my life in the US while learning about theirs here. I’m so grateful for this experience and all that it taught me.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to teach in two different schools in Spain. I taught simple English lessons to 6th graders, and more complex English lessons to high schoolers. Undertaking an Internship abroad can be an incredibly enriching experience on a personal level but it requires big commitment, seriousness and an important interest to participate in almost all the extracurricular activities organised by the USAC program in San Sebastián. When you contribute to the making of a yearbook, you're not just assembling photographs and text; you're capturing memories and immortalizing moments that will be cherished for years to come

Thank you, Nahomi and Alex for your great job. We hope that this experience has helped you expand your worldview and has equipped you with skills and insights that will serve you well in both your personal and professional life.

I had so much fun in my teaching class! Developing presentations and lesson plans really helped me work on my public speaking and presentation skills, as well as giving me a new way to learn not only Spanish culture but also Basque culture too! I will definitely miss all my students, I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves to help other people!

I really like teaching at the Basque public school in Zumaia! Seeing the kids learn English through the fun games and activities I create is a lot of fun. This has been one of the most rewarding parts of studying abroad. During my time in Donostia-San Sebastian, I enrolled in an elective course that coached me on how to be an effective conversational assistant. Then to put these skills into practice I was given the amazing opportunity to be a conversational assistant in an Elementary School. This opportunity was one hour a week for six weeks. Connecting with the kids, putting what I learned into practice, and watching the students grow in their linguistic confidence were some of the most rewarding parts of this experience. This was one of the best decisions that I could've made

Un recorrido por rincones emblemáticos, por calles que les permitieron volver la vista al pasado, hizo que descubrieran una ciudad vibrante, llena de vida y que les enganchó.

My experience in Burgos was amazing. Visiting the Burgos Cathedral was really interesting. We learned a lot about its history and explored almost the entire cathedral. I was impressed by how beautiful it is both inside and outside. The architecture is truly stunning. I really enjoyed having a guide because she explained everything inside the cathedral in more detail.

We stayed at a really nice hotel, the most beautiful one I've been to in Spain. The rooms were not only beautiful, but there was also a swimming pool. It was so much fun hanging out by the pool. And the breakfast was delicious too. It was a buffet with a wide variety of options. I think it was one of my favorite things about the trip.

I really enjoyed our excursion to Burgos. My favorite part was going to the first gothic church in Spain. What also fascinated me was that it was the third largest Catholic Church in Spain. Burgos is a charming town with valuable history that I was glad to explore!

GUARDADAS EN LA MOCHILA

Vivir durante unos meses en una ciudad como San Sebastián, permitió a los estudiantes de USAC alternativas de lo más variadas.

Por su cercanía y su fácil accesibilidad a otras partes de Europa se les brindó ventajas adicionales para los que desearon explorar más allá del lugar en el que están viviendo y desplazarse de forma cómoda y eficiente.

Un mundo de destino y actividades totalmente diversas y dispares entre sí, que sirvieron para enriquecer, abrir la mente, fortalecer habilidades sociales o ayudar al desarrollo personal, dando la oportunidad de tener innumerables experiencias.

Una de mis experiencias en San Sebastián, fue asistir a un partido de fútbol con otros estudiantes de USAC. Nunca había visto in situ un evento deportivo de este tipo. Fue muy divertido para mí mezclarme con los locales y contagiarme de su alegría. Durante el partido, cantaron muchas canciones y se creó un ambiente con mucha energía.

Uno de los fines de semana de este semestre, hice un viaje relámpago a Italia. Visité dos de las ciudades más famosas: Venecia y Florencia. Si queréis que os diga la verdad, me gustaron las dos, pero Venecia me pareció excesivamente turística. Por las calles no vi personas locales, todos eran extranjeros. Además, es muy cara y el acceso al aeropuerto es bastante complicado

Florencia me entusiasmó por muchas razones Es una ciudad muy bonita y desde luego, si os gusta el arte vais a visitar el lugar adecuado para disfrutar. ¡Hay mucha historia!

¡Comí la mejor pasta que he comido en toda mi vida!

Junto con otra gente del programa de USAC, fui a Amsterdam para pasar un fin de semana. ¡Fantástica la experiencia!

La gente me pareció muy amable Visitamos museos muy interesantes. Me gustó sobre todo el museo Van Gogh. Hay mucho ambiente por toda la ciudad y te sientes bien recibido. Hicimos un pequeño paseo en barco donde comimos un queso para chuparse los dedos.

¡Recomiendo este viaje cien por cien!

Pila bat gustatu zait Juan Ignacioren etxe eta lan egiteko txokoa ikustea. Bere lan gogorrari esker ikusi ahal izan dut zein apasionatua den bere hobbiekin, nire hobbitan gehiago lan egiteko inspiratu dit. Bere etxeko ormak argizaiolez beterik ikusita, nabaritzen da asko gustatzen zaiola argiziaolak egitea. Ez dago bera bezalako jende askorik, eta oso pozik nago bisita egin diogulako Mila esker Juan Ignacio, segi horrela!

Uno de mis fines de semana en Donostia, fui a Londres a visitar a mi familia. Aproveché el viaje para ver una de mis obras de teatro favorita en el Victoria Palace Theatre. “Hamilton” es una representación en la que se habla de la historia de los EEUU y la revolución. En concreto de la vida del padre fundador estadounidense: Alexander Hamilton. ¡Lo pasé de maravilla! Disfruté de mi familia, la ciudad y la cultura teatral.

En la clase de traducción, tuvimos la oportunidad de traducir una página web de un negocio familiar que se dedica a fabricar uno de los símbolos más antiguos e importantes de los vascos; “la Makila” .

Como agradecimiento la familia Alberdi nos permitió visitar el taller en el que trabajan en la fabricación de este bastón de marcha tradicional del País Vasco.

¡Fue una experiencia única!

Pudimos ver el proceso tan largo que se lleva a cabo para su elaboración y nos mostraron algunas “Makilas” muy antiguas. Además, nos explicaron el significado de este objeto tan lleno de valores.

LA MAGIA DE ESTUDIAR EN EL EXTRANJERO

Llegó el momento de despediros de una época que os ha visto crecer, madurar, creer en vosotros mismos, ser más independientes y resolutivos.

Os habéis enriquecido como personas y habéis aprendido a valorar cosas que antes no valorabais. Seguro que en ocasiones os habéis enfrentado a retos de los que habéis salido airosos.

Sois afortunados de haber vivido esta experiencia mágica de estudiar en un país extranjero, y os lleváis recuerdos que os van a acompañar para siempre.

Habéis conocido otra cultura completamente diferente a la vuestra, viajasteis a diferentes lugares, vivisteis nuevas vivencias, evaluasteis desde otra perspectiva lo que os habían contado y habíais leído sobre Donostia y el programa USAC. Estuvisteis acompañados por nuevas personas, compañeros y profesores que han estado a vuestro lado durante estos meses.

Dejáis atrás mucha gente, muchos lugares con anécdotas y momentos divertidos.

Esperamos que todo lo aprendido, experimentado y vivido, permanezca con vosotros para siempre y recordéis estos meses como una de las mejores etapas de vuestra vida.

Una combinación perfecta que tú, vosotros, habéis vivido y seguro que os ha marcado positivamente a nivel personal y académico.
