WH Events are hosted by different student organizations, offices on campus, and educational departments. Each student organization hosts events that they are passionate about and reflect their mission. Fraternity and Sorority organizations host philanthropic events to help support a cause. Some of our biggest events are the Pace4Kids Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, and Spring Carnival, which bring the Pace Community together. Commuter Life also hosts events specifically for our commuter population.

WHAT Social events range from talent shows and movie nights, to guest speakers and ice cream socials. The Programming Board hosts a series of events where performers visit campus on a weekly basis. Organizations also put on programs to help educate the Pace Community about cultures, leadership, and how to give back to the larger community.

WHEN Programs are scheduled throughout the semester. Many daytime events are held during Common Hour—Mondays and Wednesdays between 12:15 p.m.–1:15 p.m., or Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:30 p.m.–4:15 p.m. During this time, many organizations and offices also table in the Kessel Student Center. Organizations also work to program events at night when students are finished with classes for the day.

5

s u p m a C Events WHERE Events happen inside and outside throughout the year, many taking place in the Kessel Student Center or out on Miller Lawn and Alumni Lawn. Some of the biggest events on campus also take place in the Willcox Multi-Purpose Room. Many student organizations also host off-campus trips to museums, shopping centers, and even amusement parks.

WHY Attending events on campus is a great way to get involved in the community. You’ll meet new people, create memories that will last a lifetime, and really get a feel for what being a Pace student is all about. Whether you’re going to watch a football game or a standup performance, these events are a great opportunity to get the most out of your time at college.

HOW Learn about events on campus via fliers and posters; online via the Info for Current Students page; SetterSync; and Pace’s social media accounts, @PaceUniversity. Another great way to learn about events happening on campus is through the Flush Flash, a weekly calendar hung in every public bathroom stall. Student events can also be found on the Pace mobile app. And be sure to follow @engage_paceplv on Instagram.

6

GET INVOLVED! Looking to join a student organization? Lucky for you, it’s super easy to become a member of many different organizations on campus. Campus Involvement Fairs are held during the fall and spring semesters. Miss a meeting? You can check out an organization’s SetterSync page to read the minutes from the meeting and to see if there are any events coming up. You can also request to be a member of any organization via SetterSync. Want to get connected? Social media is also a great way to be connected with clubs. Most organizations have either an Instagram or Twitter account that they use to keep the campus updated. Don’t see an organization you want to join? You can create your own! You can always stop by the Center for Student Engagement in Kessel to learn more about any organization on campus or about the steps to starting your own.

The pantry is available to ALL students at NO cost. Students may take as much food as they need to get through the week or simply save a dining hall swipe. Items that are typically available include fruits, vegetables, yogurt, and frozen meats. If possible, students who attend should bring a reusable bag to place their food items in. The pantry will usually take place between 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. once a month and students can find exact dates through flyers, SetterSync messaging, and other campus resources.

13

TIPS FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS ■ Go to class. Professors will notice your absence and you’ll lose valuable information. Do not rely on others to provide the necessary information when you miss class. Every student understands the material differently.

■ Get support in your classes. Visit the Learning Commons website for its tutoring schedule at www.pace.edu/tutoring.

■ Make connections with classmates. Create a study group for your classes.

■ Look around campus to take advantage of study resources, workshops, and activities to help make your transition to college stress-free.

■ Meet with your UNV 101 faculty/first-year academic advisor early in the fall semester in a one-on-one meeting and again mid-semester to prepare for registration for spring classes.

14

MORE TIPS FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS ■ Make time for you. Find the balance of managing time between school work, social time, and involvement on campus.

■ Take the time to explore. Don’t feel pressured to make a hasty decision about a career or a major.

■ Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s important to take responsibility for yourself and your actions.

■ Get a head start! Make contact with the experts in Career Services. ■ Stay healthy and eat right. ■ Learn to cope with homesickness by making Pace University your home and staying on campus as much as possible.

■ Learn to budget! Meal plan money can disappear quickly if you don’t plan for the whole semester.

■ Don’t cut corners. As much effort as you put in is what you will get out.

■ Feeling overwhelmed is okay. Ask for help when you need it, whether that be from a member of our Student Engagement team or staff from the Counseling Center. You can even go to one of our many student staff members:

z Orientation Leaders (OLs) assist students in making the transition to Pace by providing information and new opportunities for academic and personal growth.

z WOW Leaders assist students in their first few days on campus as they transition to Pace and beyond.

z Resident Assistants (RAs) serve as both role models and a resource by assisting students with their personal growth and sense of belonging within the residence hall community.

z Commuter Assistants (CAs) serve as a mentor for commuter students. They hold office hours in Center for Student Engagement and host programs for the commuter population.

z Peer Leaders advise first-year students on everything from social activities to spring semester registration through the UNV 101 course.

CAMPUS TRANSPORTATION

FAQ

Q: How can I get to the nearest train station? A: There is a weekday and weekend shuttle bus service that takes students from the Martin Circle bus stop located on the PLV Campus straight to Memorial Plaza train station located in the Town of Pleasantville. This shuttle runs every 20 to 30 minutes and includes a third stop beginning at 4:00 p.m. that takes students to Thornwood Shopping Center on weekdays. The weekend shuttle run includes all three stops: Martin Circle, Memorial Plaza, and Thornwood Shopping Center. For more information, visit www.pace.edu/transportation.

Q: How can I get to New York City? A: On weekdays, Pace provides shuttle bus service to One Pace Plaza on the NYC Campus. It is free for all university students. These NYC shuttle services also stop at Haub Law Campus in White Plains, and board at the Willcox Hall bus stop. Students can also get to NYC via the Metro North Railroad from Memorial Plaza located in the Town of Pleasantville. For more information on train schedules and fares, visit the MTA Metro-North website.

Q: Do I have to reserve a spot on the shuttle to the NYC Campus? A: Yes! There is limited seating for this shuttle service. Reserve your space as soon as possible by emailing transdept@pace.edu. Be specific about which campus you are leaving from and the time you would like to take the shuttle bus. If you are planning to return to the Haub Law School or PLV Campus, please include this information in order to reserve your seat for a return trip from NYC. GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF CONDUCT The primary functions of an institution of higher learning are teaching, learning, scholarship, and service. Each member of the University community is required to cooperate with the University in its endeavors to foster and maintain the freedom of expression and exchange of ideas necessary to achieve excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, and service. The University strives to protect the rights of its students and employees (including faculty members) to publicize opinions through written and oral communications; to organize and join political associations; to convene and conduct meetings; and to advocate, demonstrate, and picket in an orderly fashion. Further, members of the University community are responsible for fostering and maintaining respect for the dignity and uniqueness of one another. In order to preserve an atmosphere in which a free exchange of ideas may flourish, and to ensure the dignity and safety of all members of the University community as well as the unimpeded operation of the University (and as required by federal, state, and local laws including, without limitation, N.Y. Educ. Law § 6430), the University has adopted the Guiding Principles of Conduct. The Guiding Principles of Conduct applies to all members of the University community including, among others, employees, faculty members, students, applicants for academic admission and employment, visitors, guests, vendors, contractors, and other third parties while they are on University premises or at University-sponsored activities. References to “University premises” in these Guiding Principles of Conduct apply to premises either owned or leased by the University. To see the full text of Pace’s Guiding Principles of Conduct, please visit www.pace.edu/studentaffairs.
