TODAY THE MISSION of the Sands College of Performing Arts at Pace University is to prepare students for careers as performers, designers, and production professionals in today’s ever-changing entertainment industry. Program curricula blend comprehensive training for the worlds of theater, dance, film, and television with a solid foundation in the liberal arts to enrich students’ artistic development. Courses are taught by more than 175 leading artist-educators across our many disciplines, and outside of the classroom there are numerous local and international productions and networking events each year. ACTING THE BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (BFA) IN ACTING provides students with both fundamental and cutting-edge training taught by industry professionals. BICOASTAL EXPERIENCE* Fourth-year students travel to Los Angeles to meet and work with leading industry professionals in on-camera acting technique, creating pitches, and navigating the industry as multi-hyphenates. Both the BA in Acting and BA in Directing International Performance Ensemble programs include a study abroad component. Students spend their fifth semester at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona in Sitges, Spain. They complete Pace University academic requirements while training in European-based methods, including the physical acting techniques of Jerzy Grotowski, Michael Chekhov, and Jacques Lecoq; flamenco, jazz, and tap; masked performance; Linklater voice technique; and heightened language. Directing majors direct classic and contemporary texts while also studying scenography. * Travel fees apply.


ACTING FOR FILM, TELEVISION, VOICE-OVERS, AND COMMERCIALS THE BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (BFA) IN ACTING FOR FILM, TELEVISION, VOICE-OVERS, AND COMMERCIALS (FTVC) is the first undergraduate program focused entirely on training the actor for work in front of the camera and microphone. It offers a fresh approach to collegiate actor training, as well as physical and vocal preparation, through intimate studio classes, an intensive four-year course sequence, and production opportunities ranging from film and television scenes to audio books. BFA Acting FTVC students graduate prepared to enter today’s multifaceted industry.

the first of its kind in New York City, prepares students for a career in the entertainment industry—Broadway, television, and film. This major offers comprehensive dance training that bridges the gap between classical technique and the world of commercial dance. Setting itself apart from the concert dance training common to most university programs, Pace’s commercial dance program focuses on dance styles and techniques relevant to the individual performer. Students have options of choosing two concentrations: performance and choreography.

Third year students spend a full semester in Los Angeles to study Dance on Camera and Choreography for the Camera. The semester is taught by the LA dance industry’s leading choreographers and directors including: Three-time Emmy Award-winning choreographer, Mandy Moore; Jillian Meyers (lead dancer for Janet Jackson, Dancing With the Stars, and more); choreographer Jennifer Hamilton (MTV Movie Awards, the Academy Awards, Spiderman 3, Dancing with the Stars, and more); choreographer and movement coach Dominique Kelley (coach to Meryl Streep, Queen Latifah, Joaquin Phoenix, Serena Williams, and choreographer for The Masked Singer, Mariah Carey and more); choreographer and producer Scott Hislop (Starstruck, La La Land, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Titanic); Dominic Chaiduang (La La Land, Dreamgirls, Dancing with the Stars: Juniors) and many other guests artists.

Students also meet with representatives from the SAG-AFTRA Union and receive education about the union affiliation— critical to success in LA TV/film production environment. Dancers receive private class time and feedback sessions with agencies such as BLOC, CLEAR, GO2TALENT, MSA. A large percentage of the students are signed with the bicoastal agencies after our LA Showcase. 9

THE BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (BFA) IN MUSICAL THEATER is a technically rigorous, comprehensive, and innovative program that focuses on cultivating the musical theater artist. With extensive training in acting, dance, and music, the program is dedicated to the synthesis of these skills and their practical application. Musical theater majors maintain strong ties to the professional community through our faculty, guest artists, and special programming such as our Artist-in-Residence program and new work development.

PRODUCTION AND DESIGN FOR STAGE AND SCREEN AND STAGE MANAGEMENT THE BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (BFA) IN PRODUCTION AND DESIGN FOR STAGE AND SCREEN provides intensive pre-professional training for the designer and craftsperson. It is geared toward developing technologically sophisticated skills in the fields of scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and media. The four-year sequence of courses focuses on primary and secondary areas of concentration, and core requirements in sketching, rendering, theater and film design history, script analysis, and much more. The hands-on training required for success in today’s theater and entertainment industries begins on day one.

THE BACHELOR OF ARTS (BA) IN STAGE MANAGEMENT prepares students for careers in stage and production management through a focused four-year program that builds and strengthens the core skills needed to transition into the professional world of theater and film. In addition to courses in acting, directing, and design, the program offers courses emphasizing communication, organizational and problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, union rules, and multiple practica as production stage managers and assistant stage managers.

To apply, submit an undergraduate application to Pace University and upload digital audition materials (pre-screen) to Acceptd. Upon submission of audition and/or portfolio materials, faculty will review your materials and, if granted a callback audition or interview, you will be invited to schedule yourself for your desired location and date. Applicants receive one decision from Pace that conveys both the academic and the artistic decision. Early Decision applicants who met the deadlines and auditioned before December 1 will receive the decision in December. All other applicants (Regular Decision) will receive the decision in March.
